case study the 2000 uspsa nationals, womens' super squad. the shooter hits the popper in the circle and it does not fall. RM is called for a calibration. he steps OUT of the shooting box so he is standing square to the popper, as from the shooting box the popper was on an angle. we all protested that he should be IN the position that competitors were required to use. he refused. the popper fell and the competitor was scored a miss. two shooter later the RM is called again, same popper. this time he shoots from IN the shooting box. we call for a reshoot for the prior competitor as the calibration was not performed from the same place. again he refuses. this RM was just plain wrong! regarding the Dillon no BS warranty. i bought a VERY used 1050. since it is considered a commercial press it is sold without warrranty. this press was a mess. i took it to Dillon for a rebuild. they replaced the cam mechanism that operates the ram with an updated version, replaced the powder measure with the latest version and rebuilt the case feeder. total cost $0.00 yes, nada,zip, zilch sadly i had to sell it before Christmas as we were seriously bucks down. however, it became a Christmas present for the son of one of our forum members ! Dillon has also updated the cam mechanism on my remaining 1050, replaced the powder measure with the latest version and rebuilt the case feeder for the same price $0.00 without appologies, if it isn,t Dillon, it isn,t jack. i have loaded on a Dillon 300 (yes a 300), lee 1000,lee progresive, lee loadmaster, Hornady Projector and the King, the Dillon 1050. i loaded over 50k rds on the lee progressive. finicky but cheap. i bought the lee loadmaster to load 45acp on as i am no keen on changing my 1050 over from 9x23. i loaded less than 2k rds on the loadmaster(?) when the shell plate carrier failed, cracking around the ram, tilting the entire shell plate/carrier assembly! i trashed the press and bought another Dillon! enough said DVC SharonAnne L2387

Brian i looked at another shooters limited pistol which had a peep rear sight. it looked pretty good just taking a sight picture. have you experimented with a rear peep and if so what did you learn? DVC SharonAnne L2387

going to series 70 trigger group Hmmmm! depending on who you talk to the series 80 firing pin safety adds 1/2-1+1/2 pounds to the trigger pull. also the actual trigger movement with the 80 parts is longer to enable the plunger to be depressed fully. with series 70 trigger group you can minimize the trigger movement needed to fire the pistol and, you can get a much lighter trigger pull. if you are happy with a 3 1/2# trigger you can keep the series 80 parts. Cylinder and Slide offers a TIN coated series 80 safety group that lightens the pull. and of course you will probably want a tuned hammer and sear. the EGW sear and the Doug Koenig hammer are excellent pieces. now the biggey. this will most likely void your warranty and getting a gunsmith to delete the firing pin safety is VERY problematic as smiths are loath to disable ANY safety device. so this makes YOU TOTALLY responsible for any problems with your trigger group. but then we are all responsible for how our firearms are handled and fired. i cannot speak to the durability of the Edge. however i traded for a colt 1911 when it had 100,000 rds on it and i proceeded to put another 120,000 rds through it. at that point 2 pieces of the slide broke off (on the rear where it had been milled for a bomar). the frame did crack somewhere in there but i had it welded up and it awaits a new slide to bring it back to usefullness DVC SharonAnne L2387

something no one else has mentioned. the series 80 style firing pin safety may not be disengaging when you pull the trigger. being an old 1911 fan i deleted the firing pin safety and put in a block with series 70 hammer/sear. it IS my carry gun and is 100% reliable. DVC SharonAnne L2387

i shot 10s of thousands of 155gr swc and had no problems with feeding. perhaps you had a magazine/chamber/ramp problem. it has been a long time since i shot that 45 but it was as reliable as an anvil. DVC SharonAnne L2387

the closest USA caliber to the 6.5x55 is the .260 remington. my ex brother-in-law uses one for whitetails with extremely good results, but it IS pricey for factory ammo SharonAnne L2387

regarding trigger length. i wear a womens' large glove which is a bit smaller than a mens' small. with a Dlask short trigger my finger pad sits square on the trigger. SharonAnne L2387

newbie, there is no box rule for LTD class in uspsa. for ltd your mags can be 140mm long. i stick with the Para long pads, mostly because i have them, they work, and the Dawsons cost $$$. but if you want more than 14 your mag i suggest the Dawson long pads. they work well on my open pistol. regarding the sight. if it hits where you aim why change it? as for caliber, TGO just won the LTD-10 title with a 45. Dawson also has factory Para mags are very reasonable prices. SharonAnne L2387

a newbie shooting a P14, gotta love em! triggers, Dlask makes a very nice magnesium/titanium trigger/bow. they come in 3 lengths. mag release, i like the S&A ambidextrous mag release ( made in stainless) grips, on my open Para i go without. for my ltd P14 i substituted Enterprise Arms grips, they fit better but they still look tacky. i do not know of a source for rosewood grips for a Para but they sure would look good and NOT affect accuracy. mainspring housing, try Brownells catalog. they have a boat load. it is the Sears Roebuck Christmas catalog to practical shooters. Speed Shooters International is an EXCELLENT source for practical shooting parts/gear. grease, see this web site for Slide Glide re: cleaning, will you clean mine too?!?!?! regarding sight picture,grip etc. buy Brians' book and study it WELL. mine is dog earred from re-reading. oh, and keep BOTH eyes open. chamber/ramp polishing. ramp polishing is pretty much standard on a competition pistol. if your chamber is rough see your gunsnmith, if you get too generous in chamber polishing you run the risk of damaging the transition zone from chamber to rifling. as a diehard Para shooter i have probably made most of the equipment mistakes so feel free to ask, i may save you some aggravation and money btw newbie, where do you shoot? ah, and regarding reloading equipment, any press as long as it is robins egg blue. good luck and welcome to a fabulous sport SharonAnne L2387
