  1. I'm gonna be using a JP handguard and will be adding a gas block as well to my new project. Has anyone used the gas blocks on these rifles and did it make a significant difference in the felt recoil and sight tracking? I understand that once you add a comp vs. the original birdcage flashhider it makes a really big improvement. Any thoughts?
  2. IMO the PMags are the only way to go. I've also converted over to the Nordic extensions. I've ran reliable steel 40 rounders for years but once I tried the pmag I was hooked. I'm currently trying to buy all that I can find which has been increasingly difficult. Good luck.
  3. Is that Benny's new style comp? I bought one for my .223 at AREA 6 3 gun but have yet to try it. Did you have to drill a .100 hole to keep it centered while firing? I was able to shoot his and it really did shoot flat.
  4. IMO the onlly way to go is to buy a suppressor. Yes it costs a lot of dough and you have to pay a tax for it but after you have shot the best comp in the world and compared it with a rifle with a suppressor attached, there is nothing to compare. I've got a friend whose a local supplier of those. Maybe I can get a test run on one his own personal ones. Thanks for the info.
  5. Yeah, that's not but about an hour from here. Can he work on anything that we use in this sport? Is he set up for slide lightening, barrel flutig, etc? Thanks.
  6. I'm looking to purchase a comp for my LR-.308 and I'm trying to find someone with experience with these. Can anyone give me some ideas? Thanks.
  7. I've got a commercial brass sizer and I always found that when I used a case lube of any brand it would gum everything up to the point where stoppages occured. Once I recleaned it all I tried WD40. WOW!! What a difference. The cases are repolished for about 4-6 hours after being resized and I have no issues whatsoever with loading or shooting. I've done this with Open 9 and .40's as well. I'm hooked.
  8. Does anyone in Alabama know of a quality gunsmith? I've got a few things that need to be done that are beyond my abilities. Please pass along a nam,e and a phone #. Thanks, Bryan.
  9. No pattern. Different stages. Different offenses: Breaking the 180, round going off while unloading & show clear, dropped loaded firearms, weapons not left on safe, weapons discharging when being placed in 'transition' barrels or buckets, etc. Linda Chico (L-2035) 2008 Ft Benning 3 Gun Statistican I'm one of the guys who DQ'd MYSELF. I failed to ensure that I placed the AK in the barrel properly and it fell out on the ground. It wasn't because the barrel was too small or anything else that could have been done differently from a setup perspective. My opinion is that the AMU team took all of last years issues and resolved them. It was a complete lack of attention to detail on my part. I truly believe that was the goal for this years match with the new style of scoring method. FOCUS. ATTENTION TO DETAIL. I have nothing but respect for ALL of the people who were a part of this match from Linda, Sandra, Robbie, Daniel, Lee, all of the other Army soldiers from the top down and the RO's themselves. I don't know all of your names but this applies to all of you. As for my DQ'ing, the guys on the stage, Daniel's dad, SFC Delohery, Daniel and Robbie couldn't have been more genuine in the way they handled it. I'll assure you that made a BIG difference in the way I handled it. This was a fun, well run match for the most part. I do believe that there needs to be a little more focus on keeping the squads that are NOT shooting off of the range. We had a squad that wasn't set to shoot for another hour start walking the stage as we were receiving our stage briefing. Therefore not all of our group was able to do a walk through in the limited time available. This was common as the squads piled up at each stage. This was brought to the RO's attention and we (the actual squad set to shoot) were given one walk through each prior to shooting the stage. Not really a huge deal because this is an issue with an easy fix. One last thanks to the AMU, all of the sponsors who support this sport and the people who so willingly donate their time to make this happen. By the way, the coin was the coolest idea that I've ever seen. Sincerely, Bryan Reid
  10. Sooo, it has come to this...planning on "hiding out" in HE-MAN are we....I didn't realize you had a pump SG and SS?? Well you know, those that attend matches for prize tables tend to shop the matches and categories......
  11. David, I posted this question in another thread topic but I've got a few 28 round .308 mags coming. Will there be a ruling against using these at your match? I'm not really up to date on the HM rules but do plan on shooting it some. Thanks.
  12. Maybe this a little off track but I've found a guy through the forums who actually makes a 28 round .308 mag from 2-19 rounders. Is there any ruling against this in HM?
  13. I hear ya brother. I keep trying to tell myself this isn't a game its training. I sit in suspense every night watching the evening news to see who was recently attacked by a piece of brown cardboard. I heard that. Who in their right mind would consider engaging targets targets with a carbine (or blaster if you prefer) training. I mean how relevent is target discrimination, target to target transitions, speed of engagement and measured accuracy while shooting on the move or from behind cover to the martial use of a carbine/blaster? Thats just silly, if that were the case all the big name firearms trainers would be teaching those skills. Wouldn't they? Would they teach/train a different sight alignment, sight picture, trigger press, and follow through for a brown cardboard target as opposed to say.... godzilla? Probably not, but they might advise having the 20 mags. LOL See y'all Saturday, Mike Mike, it seems to me that the guy with 20 rounds is about 27 short these days.
  14. Hey Eric I'm pulling for you. Lee's gonna be kinda lonely in his room by himself.
  15. Thanks Mike, I must've overlooked it somehow. I'll see you at Benning in a few weeks.
  16. Todd, We're not just in this for the sport you know. We've got to take this stuff seriously in case your at Wal-mart trying to buy the last XBox when a group of B.G.'s roll up and cause you to flip the trench coat back, unsling the AR from it's special holster....Wait a minute, just another bad dream. Seriously though I'm looking forward to another great match put on by Tapp, Webb and Wiggins. Kinda sounds like a law firm huh? See ya soon.
  17. Well I guess that rules out boonie hats, face paint and BDU's huh?
  18. I heard a nasty rumor about having to have a chest carrier with 20 mags, a vertical fore grip, a tactical cover garment and 3 rounds per target. Or maybe that was just a bad dream...
  19. I'm not new to shooting but I rarely shoot my shotgun in competitions. When I do travel to the 3gun matches I see a variety of stocks on Benelli's which is what I run. I've got all of the cool mods that were done by Benny so I'm set up in that area. I'm trying to find out if there's a real difference, whether it be in time (gun control) or ease of reloading or just simply choice. I still use the old turn and burn method of reloading. Looking for thoughts from others with more experience that what I have. Thanks.
  20. Thanks to all who made this match possible. The stages were fun and the RO's did a great job. Also a BIG Congrats to the winners!! Maybe by Benning I'll learn how to actually operate a Bennelli.
  21. Don't be so hard on yourself Randal. That's why the fault lines in USPSA are so narrow. They keep you from wandering to far off course like on the Benning sniper range....
  22. You might oughta look for a few new mags while you're at it!!
  23. I appreciate the link. The Reno Nevada Open was the one I needed. Thanks.
