  1. I'll be there as well. See ya there!
  2. Wow.. lot of debating but most of you missed the main point here completely. This is a Tanfoglio we're talking about and not a 1911, Glock, M&P or other... Generally the most important reason to disable the slide lock on the design is they will 9 times out of 10 activate the slide lock before the mag is empty once you go to an aftermarket follower. This not only negates your +1 you get with the follower/spring but totally screws up your round count. Also the 9mm which are a little finicky at best in the large frame design tend to either do this or miss the slide stop completely even with stock followers. I've had this happen with two large frame 9mms I shot The other reason to disable it completely is to go to a hardened slide stop pin as Tanfoglio and all CZ designs are known for bending or breaking the stock pins since the unlocking system can be a little hard on them. Nobody currently makes a slide stop pin with the entire lever such as stock. If you want the followers replaced call EAA and they might get you working I have little faith in them honestly. If you want a solution.... call Henning. BTW I've seen three broken ejectors in 1911s this year in just the small group of shooters I talk with regularly. Most break their ejectors and just never notice if it doesn't stop the gun from working. I still think this idea has a LOT of merit for those designs but this is the Tanfoglio forum so I'll save that for another post.
  3. Couple of solutions for that. Are you using this as a competition gun or some other purpose? Also what caliber is it? If you absolutely want the slide lock on last round to work call Henning. He probably has a ton of different followers available for all different calibers. If you are shooting competitively and want the most capacity and no slide lock, call Henning. He can get you +1 round and more consistent function with his spring/follower however... no slide lock (most everyone disables this anyway). Either way a call to Henning might be in order
  4. Had similar jams with my 38 Supercomp gun. If you look and don't see a ton of impact marks on the underside of the scope mount then this could be it. Pull the slide off the gun and push a round onto the breach face getting it under the extractor. Check for tension and make sure the round can't slip from under it side to side or top to bottom (within reason). What mine would do is I was using brass that the extractor wasn't tuned for leading to little/no tension. The ejector would hit the round causing it to spin 180 and get caught when the gun went back into battery. Worth a look but will most likely require a smith to fix either way
  5. The stock V8s are a little heavy. Cutting off the dust cover ala Grauffel makes the gun handle WAY better. That front piece is right at 2 oz so it moves the balance point back to where a Limited Tanfoglio is and the gun becomes much faster on transitions. As for keeping it flat... I've shot 2 V8s with this done both shot incredibly flat and smooth with 7625.
  6. Nope, Tanfoglios generally run lengths equivalent to what we feed STIs. With 10mm mags you can load pretty long but 1.175-1.180 I believe is where Henning runs his 40's last time I heard. I run 1.180 in my STI and my father runs 1.180 in his Tanfoglio and has zero issues. You can also run short OALs with a Tanfoglio but you'll want to run the 40mm mags which have a spacer. Also regarding the "Glocked" brass the EGW U die has worked fine for three people I know with Limited Tanfoglios no through sizer needed in my experience.
  7. Hi Guys, I'm looking to setup an Airsoft practice area in my house. I'd like to know what's recommended as far as heft of the material. Originally I was looking at drop cloths as they seem the strongest for the job. 8oz seems the most common with 10oz being the pricey option. However after looking at the options Tarps seems to be a much better option as they are available in much larger range of sizes and... are cheaper. What I've got my eye on is on the Heavy Duty ones which are still much cheaper then the drop cloth option. Can anyone tell me if this tarp would be significant enough to stop most Green Gas Airsoft Pistol rounds? 6 oz per Square Yard 1200 Denier 11-12 Mill Thickness 14x14 Natural Mesh Reinforced Corners Any help with this would be appreciated. Finding information on this is near impossible. So I'm not sure if pellet type/weight would effect this more then anything.
  8. Feels a little fatter in the grip and is HEAVY... other then that very similar.
  9. If you need examples of dependability Henning does NOT carry a backup gun for major matches. That tells me he has a ton of confidence in his gun. Along with that he does not change guns regularly I know of unless he's trying something new out. I believe he shot one of his Limiteds for 4-5 years exclusively and one of his open guns MUCH longer. I've seen these guns in person that have been used a ton and was very impressed with the minimal wear and general feel of the gun. Any fatigue problems Tanfoglio use to have I would say are LONG gone. The lack of popularity for the Tanfoglio line in the US comes down to two things lack of availability (parts & guns) and the importer's promotion of the line. They don't market or push their line like they could. You turn that line over to somebody with the right drive and cash flow and it would grow QUICKLY again.
  10. I shoot a 2011 gun but have shot and work on the Tanfoglios quite a bit. If I wasn't already shooting a 2011 and felt pretty good with it I'd go the Tanfoglio route. The only downside I see is aftermarket and Henning is addressing that at a pretty good rate. They are super easy to work on, accurate, feel great in your hand and the magazines will hold 21rnds without $40-60 of "tuning" on top of the spring/follower/pad that S_I's require. If the gun feels good to you I'd say run with it. As Henning can demonstrate it will take anyone as far as they want to go, except you may have to practice more then him
  11. Absolutely not. Tanfoglios are full rails just like a CZ and they've been running that profile since the beginning.
  12. Maybe I should have put that info up for everyone We have two indoor clubs that shoot weekly matches. Shawnee, KS - Bullet Hole Practical Shooters - Friday night - 2 stages - http://www.bhpsc.us/ Kearney, MO - Tuesday Night No Shoot Club - Tuesday night - 1-2 stages - http://www.thearmoryonline.com/SiteResourc...tion%20Shooting Then we have four outdoor clubs which shoot monthly matches. Lafyette stops for winter and I'm not sure if Pioneer will (new club) De Soto, KS - Mill Creek Practical Shooters - 2nd Saturday - 5-6 stages - http://www.millcreekpsl.org/ Topeka, KS - Capital City Practical Shooters - 3rd Sunday - 3-4 stages - http://www.capitalcitygunclub.com/pistol/ccps.html Higginsville, MO - Layfayette Practical Shooters - 3rd Saturday - 5-6 stages - http://www.lgconline.org/idpa/ Holden, MO - Pioneer USPSA - 4th Sunday - 5-6 stages - http://www.pioneergunclub.org/Activities.htm#ipsc Let me know if I can help with anything else.
  13. Shot you a PM with a LOT of options in KC area. If you are willing to drive up to 30 miles you can shoot yourself into the poor house here
  14. Understood... I think I'll just hold on to the receiver set I have for when that urge kicks in
  15. Charles.. No need to excuse yourself. I was just explaining how I came up with the figure. I figured all the items in that list as I've shot a rifle setup very similar and was impressed with how it shot. The issue still stands.... what do you do with this rifle? So far I'm not seeing anything that says this is a must have besides if I chose to shoot heavy metal and then M1As still seem to do pretty good there and honestly I'd go that route if I were to use Irons. As a scoped rifle it seems pretty limited by the weight and barrel length needed to make a long range gun. If I were to go short barrel (less than 20") a 223 will do everything the same and weigh a few pounds less. As popular as these things have become and still are as shown by the lack of parts I figured there was something I didn't know. It's beginning to look like a rifle that's ok and everything and really good at nothing... Definitely not something that's at the top of my build list.
  16. Magazines? Bipod? There are some tactical matches with LR targets, but the improvement over heavy 223 bullets would be minimal. You can save some on the scope and furniture, JP handguard instead of PRI, etc. DPMS had some bad magazines recently causing jambs, but I am not sure how many or exactly when; check with them Lee Ok, so $200 for a good bipod/qd setup and I do have some Magpul LR-20 mags on order but those are looking like vapor ware right now. So far everything it can do that a bolt can't seems do-able with a 69 or 77gr out of a 223 which is WAY lighter.
  17. Oh... I have no "Other". It's not the overall cost of one rifle. I just have a stack of lowers/uppers that need built (shut up Leo).
  18. For a long range setup I believe the 4k would be REAL easy actually.. Upper 175 Lower 300 LPK 75 carrier 100 bolt 110 Magpul PRS 225 Magpul MIAD 35 Buffer 25 JP Trigger 175 GA Barrel (308, 260 or 243) $450 PRI Handguard 325 Larue Mount 200 NightForce 3.5x15 1600 Total = $3795 Ok... so I'm $205 off BUT I've lefty out small stuff like gas blocks and completion kits for bolt/carrier... Also the GAP barreling is a wild guess. I think $4000 is not an impossible number to reach with optics for something that could potentially sit in the safe and do nothing. Heavy Metal really has little appeal to me as I have a bad wrist that makes shooting hard hitting guns (aka light weight w/no brake) quite painful. I'd like to use this in Long Range or Tactical competitions but haven't seen any where a bolt wouldn't be the supreme choice besides maybe IronMan.... I know I could build it as a super cheap built plinker but that's just against my nature Oh, and I apologize for to totaling up thing... I try not to do this as is scares me sometimes too
  19. So I was looking at my brand new LR-308 Upper/Lower receiver set last night and wondering why I own this thing. Sure it's cool and the possibilities are endless but what is it REALLY useful for? I'd hate to put 4 grand into a rig that is only useful for making small groups and long distance. Is there any competitions that the 308 based (308, 260, 243, etc) AR's excel or even do well at?
  20. Yeah, never got use to that myself. Stopped ducking but still winced every time. As for what I learned... some was good some was bad. 1. Good squad mates make shooting fun no matter what! I shot with a terrific group of people on squad 11. Some helped me out with gun issues while others just joked the entire time and made it very enjoyable. I'd squad with any of them again in a heart beat. 2. Slow and steady is NOT the way to go at Nationals. I tried what has worked before and it bit me hard. Figured I'd learned my lesson after Area 2 last year but I need to run my normal pace at these matches and forget about the possible consequences (NS, Mike, etc). 3. I love shooting in the desert. Nice dry heat is so nice when you are use to 80% humidity of the Midwest. Also there are NO allergy problems in the desert! 4. Drinking heavily after sitting out in the Nevada heat is a A#& kicker! I was SO hurting on Friday! 5. I just can't hang with the Norwegians. Those guys shoot hard and play even harder.
  21. Actually on short courses the Irons rifle is scary fast. I can out run my Tac Optics gun easily but I'm not sure the JP open sight add-on will be the same. I'll be shooting multi-gun next month and possibly the Zombie match in MO late next month. I'm getting it all together, slowly
  22. This is a very good thing to see and if they are standing out on national news shows for their success that's even better. It makes it that much harder to attack an industry who is one of the very few to be excelling in this economy.
  23. Wow... Ok then. So shoot Irons at the local matches but bring out the Tac Optic gun for any big matches should I ever enter one. Got it I seriously doubt I'm in danger of winning anything in either class right now. I've got a LOT to learn. I just know I like the open sights on the real close stuff a LOT. Now if I can hit out to 300 with any kind of regularity it should be fun!
  24. Hey Brian, you got two more Enos members on your squad. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
