Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Congrats on the new pistol. I've only had mine a few weeks but it's a keeper for sure. It's the most comfortable shooting 9mm I own. Most accurate also. Hope you enjoy yours.
  2. This is an update for those who contributed to my thread with pictures of my magazine problem. The problem was that with one of my mags, the slide would lock back with one round still left in the magazine. I had done a crude measurement of the opening at the feed lips. The offending mag was a little wider at the opening. I bent the one side in a little making it narrower to try to fix it. I tested it out today. BINGO! Problem solved. I put about a hundred rounds through using only the 'bad' mag and it workred flawlessly.

  4. I had not seen that. I'll compare the spring from the good mag to the spring from the bad mag. Thanks.
  5. It is 9mm. I have just recently started doing Steel Challenge at my club. I'm hoping maybe to try IDPA next year. So the answer is 'possibly' to competition. Since I'm not experienced in competition now, please explain how it is a benefit for the slide to not lock back after the last shot. Seems like that would be a good thing. Thanks again.
  6. Earlier this week I posted a review of my Witness Elite Match. I'm loving this gun but did have a problem with one of the two magazines. One of them would lock the slide back before the last bullet had been fired. The other mag worked as expected. I took them apart today and the main difference that I see is the red part. Is that the follower? Since it follows the bullets? The 'good' one is larger on that corner that would make contact with the slide stop. The one that is a problem is noticeably smaller on that corner. Here is a picture of the two magazines. The one on the left is the problem. One on right works perfectly. Another pic of just the plastic part. Top is good, bottom is the problem. So am i on the right track that the plastic part is the problem? If so, what is the solution? Just buy another mag over the internet and hope for the best? Thanks for any help.
  7. Thanks, but I want the slide to lock back, but only after the last bullet has been fired. It's locking back before all shots are fired.
  8. Today was my first chance to try out my new-to-me Witness Elite Match in 9mm. The gun is in excellent condition. I got it from Gun Broker and was told that it only had 200 rounds through it. I believe it. I also emailed EAA with the serial no. to find out the import date. It was imported on May 29, 2009, so it has not been around very long. So I'm satisfied with my deal. At the range, it gave me the accuracy that I was hoping it would. I was putting up five shot groups that were 1.75 inches, unsupported at 10 yards. That may not be great, but it's better than I can do with my other semis except for my .22s. I was very pleased. The pistol fills my hand nicely and recoil is more comfortable than on my other 9mms. I have had a CZ P-01, CZ 75B, and currently have an XDm and SIG P229. All in 9mm. The P-01 felt the best in my hand but was too light for me. This Witness feels good and handles recoil the best, in my opinion. I love my P229, but its shorter grip is now not as nice as the full length grip of the Witness in comparison. The only problem I had was with one of the two magazines. The slide would lock back without shooting the last bullet in the magazine. The other mag worked fine so I'll assume that its a magazine problem. I'll take apart and clean both before the next outing. So right now I'm loving this pistol. I had read many good things about it on the various forums and nothing bad, save for EAA as an importer. The gun is used so any repairs I need would be paid by me, so I'll send it to Henning if something goes wrong. Short of buying a 1911, I think I've found the holy grail I had been looking for. It looks good, feels good, and allows me to perform better than I do with my other nines. It's a winner. Edited to add: For you Witness fanatics, I realize that a Limited or some other more expensive version of Witness may be even more of a 'holy grail', but for now I'm very satisfied with my purchase. The more upscale versions will give me something to look forward to in the future. Here's a pic in case my previous thread had not been seen:
  9. I bought this over the internet last week and picked it up yesterday. I can't wait to try it out. It feels good and I really like it so far. Here are a few pictures: This is the coolest case I've ever had a gun come in.
  10. I'm the OP with an update to this thread. I emailed EAA and asked them about my gun by serial number. I was told that it was imported in May of '09. I'm satisfied that it's a fairly new gun and in the Elite series. So I'm cool.
  11. Thanks guys. I am really looking forward to getting this gun in my hands. I should be able to pick it up Thursday or Friday.
  12. Thanks everyone. I feel better. Now I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it and getting to the range. I've read so many good things about these guns.
  13. Hello all, new guy here. I just purchased a used Witness Match in 9mm. It's at the gun shop until my 7 day waiting priod is over (Maryland resident, unfortunately). I'm trying to figure out if I have an Elite Match. I bought the gun from an online auction site. It was listed there as a Witness Elite Match. When I went to my local gun shop today to see it, I don't see the word 'Elite' anywhere. The bar code tag said Witness Match. Can you folks tell by my serial number when this gun was produced and if it is inded an Elite? The serial number is like EA451**. I noticed that the SKU number is 600660 which seems to match the model number on EAA's website for an Elite. I'm feeling fairly confidant that this is an Elite but would like confirmation since I was supposed to be buying an Elite. I'm assuming that the Elite is slightly better than the non-Elite Match models. Or am I all screwed up. Is a 'Match', always an 'Elite Match'? Thanks for any help you guys can give me.
