  1. I was going to buy a pact mk IV until I read a few people having issues about returns and long waits to get em back. I havent heard about single person actually being able to use the chrono. I havent heard about any bad CED's, and I see a lot of em at matches. I'm in the market for one of those or a pocket pro.
  2. dumb question, but I read about people loading up .38 super to meet major power factor. I thought .40 was as low as you could go. can anyone elaborate? thank you.
  3. shoot lefty! I usually extend my weak hand thumb out to the slidelock button. gives me something to grip on. then again that might be a little funky for right handers. What do you guys do about that? lol!
  4. cool! saves a little money on gas and fees. a bit broke after going on a buying frenzy. Time to put em to work next month... I hope!
  5. I would have to say .38 super comp.. funny you like the purple AR, I like whats holding it! girlfirnd is asian and offered to by me one for christmas. I asked her if We could just take pics of her with mine! (now I'm definately getting the calandar!)
  6. thats awsome man. I wish my pops was into comp shoots when I was kid. I shot a trap tournament once when I was 10. I wasn't a state champ though I'll tell you for sure! congratulations to the both of you. Keep up the good dadding!
  7. So, essentially you can shoot all four qualifier stages at one match and get a classification in one day? is it them crazy pills again or is that what it means?
  8. thanks everybody. just found out a friend of a friend is an airsoft dealer. the guy says he'll give me a 5" hi-capa (fake S_I). I am interested to feel the difference between the WA and the freebie.. With what I got invested in guns, mags, rigs, and practice ammo, I'm about broke! last thing to purchase on my list is a CED 800, and still trying to sell my Browning lightning O/U to pay for reloading gear. using pops single stage is just getting stupid boring!
  9. I think Matt is right on, except he forgot to mention what to eat, and what not to eat as well as when. I just lost about 15 lbs in about 2 months. All I did was eat 3 squares with an occasional snack, swam laps in the pool, never ate 4 hours before going to bed, and ran around the house dryfriring! Oh yeah, the big one... NO DESERT after dinner except fruit. I stayed away from fatty or fried foods (my weakness) and cut down on the pasta/dairy. no milkshakes or fast food. I was living off tuna/turkey wraps/burgers, and grilled chicken breasts, rice and greens. Fish, salad, and rice gave me enough energy to swim in the pool or fire off 3-500 rds. I still have a slight belly, but my face is thinner, no double chin, and I feel lighter. now if i could just quit smoking. oh yeah.. NO BEER will drop the weight right off you. drink a lot of water, and dont believe carbs are the enemy. If you want to last through the diet, you'll have to eat bread on occasion to keep from going nuts. just dont add preserves or butter to it. Food will be bland at first and the lust for food will deplete, but you will get used to it if you stick to your guns. LEO, stay off the coffee/doughnuts and you will lose weight faster than you can imagine. I went from 218 to 202 quicker than I thought. If I can get down to 190, look out Ladies! Once the fat is gone, Its time for real excercise. Cardio like running/cycling will drop weight, but doing dead lifts, push ups, crunches, pull ups, benches, and curls will bulk you up fast when the fatty weight is lost
  10. my only question is where does this leave the trojan and other top dollar single stack STI's? please dont get me wrong here, but I would be pretty upset if I just payed $12-1300 on a trojan, to have a gun similar in comparrison w the bells and whistles by the same company for half of what I just paid. I think that is why there seems to be so much skepticism about this "rookie" match gun. However, after shooting the 2011's I dont think STI would put their name on anything mediocre. I cant wait to see one with my hands!
  11. I could just see that gun hard chromed, with little polishing! It would be the shiznit! I dont think shes beat at all! I would say she looks well broken in! interesting history. I wonder why STI stopped making the 3 sided slides... I have a 7 sided/serrated SV slide and I prefer it way more to my round tops. + they get so much more attention at the range! I meet a lot of people at the indoor range that see me wipin it down after a bit of shooting, walk up and ask What is that?! I really like that lexor. I'm gonna be on the lookout for one of them!
  12. For what my vote is worth, I voted on the kimber. I never shot an STI singlestack, so I cant vouch for it, though the 2011 is by far better than any of my springfields or kimbers. My kimber custom II was a great gun for the money. it is far tighter fit/finish than a loaded SA, eats anything you feed it, but the trigger needs work. after shooting my S_i w a 2lb trigger, going to roughly 5lbs really messes with my shooting. I have gone 2k+ rounds without cleaning it before it gummed up enough to jam. you have to replace the mags immediately. kimbers mags SUCK. wilsons stainless seem to work flawlessly. my kimber has well over 10,000 rds through it (first 1911, 2nd handun I ever bought) and doesnt need the springs replaced, never broke anything, and has never been back to the factory since I bought it. I know they recommend you change the springs every 2500 rds, but mine was going strong. my springers with approximately 1/3rd the use have needed extractors replaced, firing pin, spring replacements, jams about every 400 rds, and the guns are cool, for $650 + magwell, grips, trigger job(again about 5-6lbs on the loaded, 9-10 on a mil-spec!), you may want to look into the STI spartan. it seems to have all the bells & whistles except the strange chrome barrel, and it will probably need a magwell, and trigger job. I think its amazing you can get an STI with most of the features you would need to purchase to make a springer or Kimber a contender in single stack for under $700. The kimber is a great gun. I hope I get it back.
  13. I watched michael voight shoot a course single handed, and wondered how practical it is... I guess if your MV you can do anything you want but what about the rest of us? lol! I practiced weak hand shooting yesterday both single handed and strong hand supported. When I rested my hand in my pocket and shot w a NRA bullseye stance and shot alright.. not great, but I will make sure every time I practice to draw shoot and reload at least 3 mags. it was kinda embarrassing when my girlfriend is shooting a bone stock mil-spec "loaded" version for her first time and shes shooting better than me off handed. She's getting really good. looks like she wants to shoot ipsc as well, but stippled grips hurt her girly little hands
  14. I had RIID build me a .38 super 1911 for steel that I have a bomar, with a JP bomar cut scope mount w docter scope and a interchangeable coned barrel/comp to shoot it either L-10 or Open if I choose, when I just started surfing the forum here. I should be finally getting the gun next week. I did it because i didnt want to drill a bunch of holes in my frame on such a pretty gun... Now I never thought about a slide ride mounted scope sliding forward and back when the gun cycles. Wish I would of just bit the bullet and had him throw a dawson w a C-more, but this will be my only gun I can switch over. should be interesting. Does anyone have any problems with the rectagular shape or of the Docter? Glad I have an STI .45 open gun and a caspian open .38 super w a dawson frame mount both w C-mores. Hopefully after I get settled into my new home I can actually finally shoot a match. it seems everyone uses C-mores these days. I shot a kodiak 9mm open gun with a C-more and it almost felt like cheating! 1-1/2 group w 29 rds at about 25' in just under 20 seconds. virtually no recoil or site re-aquisition. 9's seem to balance and comp really well. I think I'm really going to like ipsc/SC open division regardless if I get hosed or not! off subject, but how many of you shoot open in .45ACP? will +P's produce enough gas to keep the gun manageable? will it be a totally different animal from a 9/.38? I know .38 super is a pretty snappy, rough caliber to shoot w/o a comp, but it seems much more tame when comped. I imagine they will have a totally different feel from eachother, but how significant?
  15. has anyone bought reloaded ammo in bulk? I would imagine If you bought enough.. say 10,000 rds, you should be able to buy reloads cheaper than you can reload them for yourself, because of the volume they purchase range brass and all that powder, primers and bullets for compared the price we would pay if we went to the store to buy enough materials to reload a 1000 rds.
  16. here's what i found at 1911store.com: Extractor, BCG - Pro Series Performance Tuned On the Pro-Series Performance Tuned extractor, all bearing surfaces have been polished and radiused for proper fit. It has been pre-tensioned to where it should work in most guns although minor adjustment may be required in some cases. Available only for 9mm/38 Super/40 S&W. Price: $40.00 that will probably solve your problem... I'm waiting for a P-16 I got from Al Capizzo and if I'm not mistaken it has an aftec extractor in it and runs flawlessly from what I think he told me. Is it possible to build a good para? Yeah I think so, but you have to pretty much do anything you would do to an S_i to make it run right. When I practice I usually shoot about 350-500 rds, When I get a new gun some times twice that. I assure you when i get it next week, I'll let you know how it handled my torture test..
  17. Ok, good point. I'm glad you chimed in, because I read a lot of your posts and your answers always have truth and logic to them. that i can appreciate. Thanks for the key answer to my query. makes a lot of sense. Interesting topic. glad the pills are wearing off.
  18. I knew someone was going to do it... that was the exact gun I figured you'd do it with! lol!ok... maybe their should be $$$ cutoff, say $1000. and keep em stock! Now we can shoot GI's milspecs, Custom II's Target II's, Rock rivers, yes the Spartan etc etc... with NO MODIFICATIONS!!!! rules.. No comps, no optics, and no custom work period... Is mit just me or dont most agree that a 1911 should be allowed in production? or am I taking crazy pills?
  19. I think rules are great. dont get me wrong. its just that when i wanted to get started shooting at a competitive level, I figured the 1911 platform was the gun of choice as it is so widely used by so many shooters. Almost every person I know that owns pistols, owns at least 1 1911... What cracks me up is that you cant shoot a 1911, but you can take your glock, do a trigger job, change the barrel, add a magwell, replace your sites yada yada yada, but yet your production gun is now far from production. If USPSA/IPSC want to invite new shooters, maybe the stock production class should be a little more liberal on the guns that qualify for that class. I think production should be any production gun with zero modifications. The better production gun you buy, might just be able to be shot in Limited, saving the shooter on a budget some money, and the frustration of shooting a disliked gun alike.
  20. The jerk: Steve martin playing Navin R. jr. "I was born a poor black child" "lord loves a working man, dont trust whitey, see a doctor and get rid of it" "Johnson.... Navin, R...... Sounds like a typical jack ass" Navin: these cans are defective! Mr. Hartunian: We dont have defective cans! We got a defective person out there! Navin: He Hates these cans! stay away from the cans! Mr Hartunian: He doesnt want to put holes in the cans he wants to put holes in you! "Dear mom and dad, enclosed is 2 dollars. Next week I might send more money as I may have some extra work.. Patty promised me a blow job. P.S is Gramma still farting?"
  21. I personally think the rules for production class suck! How could we be so "limited" to what we can shoot? I think production class should be just that.. ANY production gun PERIOD. I cant believe I cant shoot a 1911 in production class because its not a "safe action" gun... I know I'm gonna get heat for this, but What if I dont want to own a glock, XP, sig, EAA or cz???? (which I don't) except for my baby eagle compact which wouldnt cut the mustard in production because of the short barrel. I am practically forced to shoot Limited because of my choice in guns, and thats what I dont like about the rules...
  22. I can understand selling a gun or gear to finance an STI. S_i's are investments. most other pistols out there wont fetch what a used S_i goes for. (at least thats what I tell my girlfriend) I have yet to sell any of my pistols. I have 2 kimbers/2 SA 1911's, 3 2011's, HK USP Expert, Baby eagle compact, and a Para P-16 for semi autos, and S&W models 29, 57, and a 66. planning on a .460 for some boom boom.. oh yeah, forgot about my .22's... NOT sellin.. I do have a Browning O/U shotgun for sale though... I dont want to look at it! I'm officially done with skeet! messes with my pistol game.
  23. matt, did you cut them slides yerself? Nice work! GANS: I bought a comp from you a while back, If your the GANS who makes comps... QUALITY PRODUCTS!!!!
  24. I payed $768 for my Kimber custom II, and after reading up on the spartan I feel like a shmuck! I put grips, S&A magwell/mainspring housing, trigger job, and I must have at least $200 more in mods. Add bomars, and an F/O front, and my $1100 kimber still wont say "STI" on it.. thats cheaper than a mil-spec "loaded"! it doesnt really get any cheaper than that for a decent 1911. congrats on a great purchase you guys! I love a good deal!
  25. We got it all figured out. the sellers want proof that the gun is going to an FFL, and everybody keeps asking for a copy of the signed version. All you have to do is go to ATF.COM and click the link for ez check as long as you have the 1st 3 and last 5 of the dealers FFL to make sure all is kosher. Most new stores wont send a private party their signed FFL for the possibility of criminal acts used w their FFL, so most stores are telling private parties to verify through ATF's EZ-Check. this saves a lot of time and protects the retailer's FFL at the same time. it actually makes a lot of sense and if private parties would just run a check on the above mentioned site, a lot of the hassle and time would be reduced. The other reason dealers wont fax their dealer FFL's is because the faxes arent always ledgable, so they mail them.. another day or 5 before they even get the copy...
