  1. thanks for great pics of a beautiful factory open gun. If I didnt just spend 2k+ on a new open S_i, and that gun was available now I would swoop on one in a heartbeat! thanks again for showin those blasters off!
  2. I just joined USPSA 10 minutes ago. I am 32 years old. dad put a .22 rimfire sa browning in my hand when I was 4. a colt woodsman at 5. combat comander at 6. I was shooting trap at 7. skeet at 8. I thought I was experienced enough of a shooter for IPSC 3 gun, limited, and possibly SC. It was watching pin comps as a kid that made me want to shoot steel more than anything when I saw the matches at piru. I went to gopher flats pig roast a few weeks ago and was really surprised how quiet and competitive everyone was. NOone talked to me, and I felt kinda intimidated by everyones attitude. I had a lot of questions to ask, but none were answered. I know this wasnt a real IPSC match, but it was the 1st ipsc/idpa style I ever attended. There were definately some people who knew what they were doing. approx. 5% at least consistantly hit the A's and had faster times than the rest. I was actually really surprised by the lack of talent I saw. Everyone had $3500 blasters on em, but I think few deserved to be shooting them. I couldnt believe the amount of bermshots, misses, malfunctions, reloads, I saw. I figured this was a private club, and that ipsc cant be this way! If it is, I dont think I'll be the one in dead last no matter what division! (not that I think I'll be close to the top 50 either) Anyway It didnt intimidate me at all. It did the exact opposite. it almost detracted me from the sport until the competitive side in me said "no, I will not let them defeat me before I even play. Now I'm out for blood!" It only made me want to shoot a match more now than ever. I recently moved to FL. and I am hoping a little bit of that southern hospitality trickles down to the matches around here, as I am now ready to give it my all in something I only really read about. I definately need a little hands on guidance. I am looking into enough land to set up stages and practice for both IPSC and SC. If in anyone knows of any ranges where you can practice shoot the SC stages please let me know! It's what I'm most interested in, and I really want to learn how to shoot it before just entering. Ipsc I'll have to just dive in and hope I float. wish me luck!
  3. my girlfriend & I watched it as I am a huge michael Mann fan. To live and die in L.A, Manhunter, Heat are all great films. Michael did the original tv series and I think he did the best he could to modernize the film to today's era. My girlfriend actually noticed the S_I before i did! she doesnt even own one! I think you guys are semi right about the semi role reversal. Jamie fox is a bigger actor than Collin Farrell so thats probably why He was P1. or it was because Collin Farrell was coked out his mind thoughout the whole shoot. listen to his voice.. he sounds distressed and short of breath like a cokehead. That was entertaining. as for the Girl. She was pretty hot, and the all the gear from cars to boats and guns were top notch. I enjoyed the begining when they shot up the car with a Barrett .50 and the arms and head were severed from the back seat.. that was neat!
  4. In Miami Vice, Collin Farrel weilds an S_I. pretty cool!
  5. I just switched from a Black Blade FS to a new gun w FO. Now I hate dots. at least I hate 3 dots. but with this .90 dot on this new gun I'm shooting better than ever, constistantly. I dont think its the color of the site though. I think its the shape of the site, so I am really thinking about what SA friday is saying. The FO can obviously be removed from its mount and an ABS rod could replace it for pennies. After reading this thread, and the advice from others I might be shooting better because I just recently changed sites and colors, not the gun. But it is my first S_I, and I think that may have a lot to do with it too
  6. Does Para even make a doublestack w/o that TERRIBLE L.D.A Trigger anymore? I looked at a Para today, and maybe your right about the Bow, but if the Bow Feels funny, I'll probably try another one. As Someone who only shot a single stack para compact .45, I wish I just had a mil-spec w a S/A trigger that day. I own and continue to buy 1911's as I have love em to death, but since I got an STI, I dont find myself looking to shoot the rest of em too much anymore, and I keep trying to buy up every nice used STI I can, as I know I'll get most my money back. I have been looking into used Para's but no one wants to sell em. their harder to find in CA. than STI's! That also tells me that their keepers as their hard to part with, which to me says a lot. I want one in my collection. If anyone wants to sell their S/A double stack 5", please let me know. I am moving to FL. for a while so I can own one and take it back to CA. should I move. thanks!
  7. Rich built my open mil-spec and its beautiful. he loves those xd's! you'll probably spend less on the XD than you will fixing your berretta. I swear the gov. gave leo and the military m-9's to give criminals and insurgents half a chance.. I have one and it hasnt been fired in 10 years. it was my dads so i wont part with it. if it wasnt, I would of sold it or chucked it at a target by now. good luck!
  8. After shooting 1911 single stacks so long, I thought it couldnt get any better to shoot, but the "custom" factory guns. I havent competed yet, but I wanted too for some time. business is good, so I just recenty purchased a custom built 2011 limited .40, and from the 1st mag, I was in love. I have been DROSing the gun at my range so I can shoot it and I already put 3500+ rds. through her. I practically took the week off and shot 7 straight days, took friday off, and I get to take her home tuesday. I am ADDICTED. not to shooting... but shooting this gun. It's unexplainable. Just compare your berretta that probably does "shoot 3" high to the left" as a fiat. Where S_i's are ferrari's... . this is coming from a guy who has been shooting shy of 25 years, and never once shot in competition. I'm only 32, and I dont care if I ever actually compete or not, but if i do; I want to make sure I have the right tool for the job. If your looking into production class, maybe a double stack 1911 might be more accurate and parts/smiths are a dime a dozen in this country. 90+ years our country depended on 1911's. It's the platform that these competitions originated from. I bought a used S/A Trophy Match for $550, and after a little polishing and some spring replacements. I had me a perfect gun to shoot production, or Limited 10. I sold her to help pay for the S_I, but what the hell eh? I have a kimber custom II to shoot production and have a .38s. mil-spec open gun now, as I now have me S_! for limited.. I might be more addicted to buying and building these things than I am shootin em! but i shoot plenty so maybe not.. Its better than drugs!
  9. I came and checked it out today. looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Hope next time I can actually compete. Wish I ate pork because it smelled goood!
  10. I changed it for you. but I think its BS that you guys have competitions and there has to be this runaround the first time. not like norco or piru. It doesnt really help build up a competition if we cant even get directions. I spent a half hour googling til I called another forum member and actually found out whre it was. Are you him? lol! is there a secret handshake at the gate to enter, or is my $40 good enough? oh yeah, can I use your gun? j/k R/S...
  11. Before I took pistols seriously, I shot skeet. Everyone wears a violety red/blue combo out there. If you guys are wearing yellow outside, your burning your eyes out of their sockets! they are for indoor low light situations. I have a yellow pair just like flexmoney's for the indoor range. I only have my grey Gucci's, and When get my new prescripts, you can bet I'll get a pair of red racers. I would think for best target/sight aquisition that a more red or violet would make things really visible. I used to snowboard a lot and I would ride at night with YELLOW goggles to see the the contrast in the snow and for better night vison.
  12. looked like hell to find any info on the range, but I googled until I came up w this: XXeditedXX If I wake up early enough I'll compete, if not I'll definately come and watch. sounds like a lot of fun. whats the prize table lookin like?? lol!
  13. thanks, I will try that. can you use para mags in an STI?
  14. quick question, probably a dumb one, but do para double stacks work in S_I's? just wondering. probably not. I looked up STI mags at speedshooter.com and their only $60+ base pads. I have 2 tuned mags and one of them is tweaked to the point where I see a bit of wear on the mag, and it will not eject unless I hold the mag release down and push the mag from the slide down until it gets over the hump in it and unwedges itself out the frame. is there any thing I can do to save the mag?
  15. their are images attached in the thread above. check em out! I am ecstatic to be shooting the best pistol I ever bought. I love all these private party transfers! I can buy the STI 30th.. and dross it the same time I wait for my Bar-sto. probably send my bar-sto to JV, and let him build me an custom open next, but I really cant imagine shooting any faster! I took down 5 targets from 7-18 yards in 2.10 seconds. look out limited, here I come! oh yeah, got me a surefire laser/flashlight m6 mounted to my USP expert to shoot in the tactical class. zero'd it in yesterday and I cant get over how accurate you can tune them things. (not my cup of tea) but I can compete in a class with very few participants which is exciting.
  16. I apologise if I come off like a jack. I'm new to these S_I's, and was meeting with the gentleman who was selling 3 of his, and I wanted to know if I was gettin hosed or not. here are the details as emailed to me from the previous owner: "it started with the long dust frame, it was built by Don kehoe and trigger job by jojo @ jvdynamics. it has the ff parts: sv 7 sided slide, tungsten guide rod (sv), scheumann barrel para/clark cut, ssi acculock reverse plug, aftec extractor, limcat xl firing pin, extreme eng'g disconnector, doug koenig hammer, sti titanium strut, bomar was replaced by taran butler that is the sight cut he is currently using, 12lbs recoil spring, the grips was done by Advance performance shooting (aps)" sorry for any confusion this may have caused. I payed $2600. it's flawless. any reccomendations or advice?
  17. I thank you all for your advice. I recently purchased a CA STI from a fellow member here, and I am very happy. here is a pic or two of the new toy. their is a lot of work done by some great smiths on this piece and there is little I will have to do to it.. heres what I got. NO it is not an SVI. look closer. I priced out an SVI similar to what I have, minus the hard chrome, and they want $3800!.. for a limited gun.. I dont think so! so heres a couple pics I shot w my camera at the range today. We transferred the gun at the indoor range I practice at so I get to shoot her while I wait.. I have never shot better. had no idea how much superior an S_i is to the "generic" brands I grew to love to shoot. my supermatch is like a corvette, but the STI is like a Lamborghini. I shot 5 NRA 25' rapid fire targets in a simulated 5 to go and I did in 2.10 sec. the best I ever did before that w my kimber was 3.40 and I was happy! So now I have dreams about this gun... no. my sheets are dry in the morning, but You will see me at the next norco or piru event fo-sho.
  18. Isnt doing whats right often times buying the the gun that is rarely available to US that make them worth what they are today and keepin em... THEN supporting that company willing to go the extra mile to get US the gun approved, for those who cant find or afford an S_I? I'm not bragging, but I make enough money to own both and was really wondering what an infinity hard chromed w 5000' rds through her might go for. the order is in for the BS-40. I couldnt resist. anyone with a guesstimate of what a hard chromed infinity w a trigger job, and fiber optic site w 5000+ rds through her is a decent price to pay? these answers usually just a display a dollar ($) sign with a numerical amount on them (12345). Why is this always so hard? can anyone just answer the question? not trying to be rude or condescending but I ask 2 questions, usually only one gets answered, and there's a debate over the question.. I love the info I get here, and I appreciate all who try to help, but damn people, everyone here is so confrontational! is this whats it like at the comps? I feel like i'm sometimes just talking to cops on the job..
  19. All the hot guns I look at have the option for hard chrome. I grew up around a machine shop and car builder my whole life. 20+ years ago I was an Amateur BMX racer with a chrome plated bike. As I grew up I noticed less and less asthetics on cars to be plated, then stainless and polished aluminum were the bees knees. I also noticed that the plating on bumpers, Crager 5 spoke mags, and even the chrome on my old Bmx was bubbling or cracking off, leaving a big rust spot wherever the chrome plating was stressed over time. My family inherited a knickel plated Belgian hi-power (pimp gun) that started bubbling too.. I love the look of hard crome, titanium, aluminum, stainless ect. The one thing I keep thinking about on a gun is the glare factor in your average outdoor shooting match, and why everyone with a hot racer or limited gun is willing to spend so much money to plate a gun that could initially deteriorate the finish. Why is Hard Chrome so hot in the competition world? I always figured a matte koted black gun would minimize glare, and be a pro's choice. I look at my super match and the frame is stainless but the slide is parkerized. this makes perfect sense to me as it would cut down the glare factor considerably, and it is my favorite gun, not neccasarilly my favorite to look at, but my favorite to shoot. As I look at S_I's, People want so much more money for a hard chromed gun, and that seems to be what all the people with the money do to em. Please.. someone.. anyone.. Why Hard chrome and not parkerized, stainless or a kote?
  20. Like it has been said, it's a seller market in CA and you can't compare it to other states. Pay what the seller wants or don't buy, simple as that. thats wonderful! but SVI's are available in CA so that doesnt exactly put them in your catagory, and I just want to know what a hard chromed, infinity with a trigger job and a fiber optic site with 5000 rds through it maintained very well might fetch. thanks! then the next question would be, if you had a choice between a new BAR-STO BS .40 and and the gun I mentioned above, which gun would you all prefer? the infinity or the Bar Sto? bump..

  22. Since this thread was created I have been hit up by several members who are willing to sell their limited STI or SV's in socal. What is a reasonable price for a bone stock Edge or an infinity? what about a limcat?
  23. speaking of USP's, I just had a shoot out in my warehouse against a cholo with an xd at about 10 pm last night. I barricaded myself between boxes of nutrients, and some 55 gallon drums. no I didnt load the magazine backwards either like that ridiculous add. their was a table at the entry with a 1 gallon bottle full of bloom stimulant with a pink label on it. it was directly in the path of the entry of the building so after he shot wildly in the building once not knwing at all where I was, I shot the gallon bottle with a 185g 40. I repeated with 2 more shots towards the door. he returned 1 again having no idea where I was, or was a terrible shooter.. I sprayed this guy so bad he ran for it and took off. They put a gun to my customers head outside and then came in to rob my hydroponics store. if I didnt have my expert there, I may not be here today. get this. they steal my customers keys, but the vato I sprayed with bloom stimulants ran so fast he dropped his phone in the street. I got photographs of him and his girlfriend.. his dogs.. this is the third time in 2 months that i had to draw my weapon at work, and I have a pending firearm in vehicle charge thats being exponged. It's really scary, I really didnt hear his gun or mine very loud at all, and i was really calm and quick to act. my shots were dead on, and I kept myself hidden with an escape to a cinderblock wall backed by a fire door from the 1920's. If he wasnt wearing black in the dark outside of the building, and I could actually see him.. I hate to even think about it. I own guns because i like to shoot tight groups and shoot steel as fast as i can. I cant remember when I even shot a silhouette target of a human.. I think I'm going to take some tactical training. I am going to get me a crimson trace laser and and M6 mount for a surefire. Its the only gun i have with a rail on it and the adjustable sites work great for me. I want to shoot tactical with it at the SC w it and se how I do. crazy story huh?
