  1. This is absolutely true. Chris
  2. Actually, it looks like it's the same setup as the Trusight. A 5" barrel, 4.25" slide and the sight attached to the end of the barrel with a weight. Looks legal to me. Chris
  3. This is what I got back from Mr. Amidon (in two parts because of my poor wording of the second question): Part 1: /Chris, / /So far 5" only, not sure what you're asking on the second part? / /John Part 2: (I reworded my second question as follows and Mr. Amidon's response is after that) /Sorry, I know I wasn't very clear on that second question. / /I'm just trying to find out whether I can make and install a similar frame mounted block /myself. Or, do the parts have to come from Cominolli to be legal in Limited Division? / /I realize that Cominolli may have patent protections or some protection preventing someone /from copying the design. I'm just asking from a viewpoint of the USPSA rules. / /I believe that the function of a frame mounted block that controls the muzzle end of the /barrel and allows for a front sight mount is what is allowed rather than a specific brand /or aesthetic form in particular. Is this correct? / /Chris //First, it is not a Cominolli Front Block, Cominolli is the US contact for //the Manufacturer. The gun is actually fro AGM Customs Pistols and it is //called an Accu-Block, available in 5" in 9mm, 38Sper, 40S&W and 45ACP. // //The rules say a complete handgun or components with a minimum production of //500 units by a factory and available to the general public. // //Anyone copying this with different parts is not in line with what the rules //state, I would think that it is copy protected but you would have to contact //Cominolli for that. // //John I'm not sure that the maker can have a valid patent or copyright on a frame mounted block that holds the muzzle end of the barrel since there are plenty of guns out there (Bianchi guns I've seen) that have the same functional system. But, that aside it looks like if someone wants to try this set up in Limited/L10 then they have to get at least the parts from Cominolli (or whoever the maker is) in a 5" configuration or it isn't legal. I have to say, I really think this whole '500 guns or components' rule needs to go away. As much as it pains me to say it, I like the IPSC rule better. If it fits the box it works. I think there is a lot of innovation we are missing out on from small builders and manufacturers because they just can't get the capital to build 500 guns/components from the beginning. BTW, this is not a dig at Mr. Amidon or anyone else. I asked a question and got an honest answer. Whether or not I like the answer doesn't make it wrong. Chris
  4. Thanks for merging. Sorry I started a new thread. I really did try a search first. Evidently it was a bad search or I just overlooked the existing thread. So, has anyone shot one of these Front Block guns? Chris ETA: BTW, I sent the following email to Mr. Amidon to try and get a little more info: /Could you let me know if the Front Block is approved for /both 5" and 6" barrels? Also, am I correct to assume not /only the Cominolli brand front block is approved but /simply attaching the muzzle end of the barrel to the frame /is approved? / /Thank you for the information. / /Chris
  5. Thanks for the link. I actually did a search in the 1911 section and the USPSA rules section for the term "Cominolli" and didn't come up with anything. I don't know why I didn't get that thread. However, I think my thread is a bit more descriptive of the issue/newly approved equipment. Maybe that's just me. Chris ETA: I didn't see anything in my earlier search that was recent or that appeared to deal with this brand new ruling is what I meant to say.
  6. Are they really that much of an advantage? Seems like everybody is going out of their way to make their guns really light in the nose to me. I've never shot a sighttracker, I can imagine the sight must appear to move a little less, but it's vertical movement must be the same, and it doesn't seem like top guys use them...Maybe just that a 6" is more of an advantage than a sighttracker? I don't believe that I or anyone else suggested that any of these configurations were legal in 6". What I was referring to is what I would like to build and use. Like RAZZ said it's personal preference. I really like a 6" sight radius. I think it helps me anyway. What I think would be the best setup would be a 6" sight radius on a 5" gun. But, that hasn't happened yet. BTW, 6" Limited guns have done pretty well. They are still vastly outnumbered by 5" guns so I'm not too surprised that you see 5"'ers more than 6"'ers. But, Leatham does fairly well with 6" guns. There might be a few others who do well with them too. Chris
  7. I think the gun still exists. If I remember right it's only allowed in factory configuration of 4.25" slide and 5" barrel. I'd rather have a 5" slide and 6" barrel with a 1" weight threaded to the end of the barrel with the sight mounted to the weight. This is how my Bianchi gun in set up and I really like it. Chris
  8. I just got my copy of Front Sight and saw that the Cominolli Custom "front block" is legal in Limited division. Has anyone ever shot this? Know the cost? Personally I would rather have the block mounted to the end of the barrel rather than the frame. But, I don't think a block mounted to the end of the barrel is legal yet. Chris
  9. I'm not sure what factory weight is since I built my gun it didn't come with a particular spring. I run 10# recoil and 17# mainspring for 135'ish PF loads for Bianchi shooting. Chris
  10. Nice looking but I'm not sure how durable. I have had a Skagen with titanium 7mm thick case for about 10 years. Great watch except the face gets scratched up easy. No issues with the face breaking but definitely easy to scratch. BTW, I wear the same watch all the time. Whether I am in court, at a wedding or working on my cars or motorcycles. I'm very tough on watches. The Skagen has been a good watch. I now need to replace the old one or get a new face. Chris
  11. I agree. I'd like to see a couple top level Bianchi shooters mixed into the group next season. The right ones could really do well. I think. Chris By this I mean Metallic Division top level Bianchi shooters. Phil Strader, Robert Vadasz or Troy Mattheyer would all do very well.
  12. "This is the kind of spontaneous publicity - your name in print - that makes people. I'm in print! Things are going to start happening to me now." Chris Just wait until the new phone book arrives. The new phone books here! The new phone books here! Craig I love that movie!! Sorry about the thread drift, Tom. Chris

  14. No, work is going to keep me from going to LA. I'd like to try and go next year. I did get my entry in to the Cup in time. I'm on the competitor list right behind you. Exactly where I will probably finish. Chris
  15. I'm losing respect for you Jeremy. You're going to the dark side. Once you start shooting Open regularly you will never want to go back to Metallic. Chris
  16. Squadding for this game isn't like USPSA where you shoot with a group all day. You get a time to be at a stage and you show up a little bit before that time to shoot. On the plates, barricades and practical you will shoot with a couple other people (more than likely different for each one) and then you are done. You only have to be at the range for a short period of time if you want. Chris
  17. Check with the store you bought your eyeglasses from and see if you can get a set of tinted clip-ons for your frames. If so, then just pop out the right tinted lens and that will allow you to see normally with your right eye and restrict your left eye. I don't know of anyplace that sells a cover for just one lens. Chris
  18. Sitting at # 9 from last years placement, you should have received your squadding and confirmation letter. NRA Pistol Dept Wrong Chris. You are thinking of Chris Nuss who is already listed. I'm Chris Yotz and didn't finish that high. Chris
  19. I finally got my entry sent in. I hope I'm not too late. Chris
  20. Did anyone else notice the gun hang in the first video as seen through TT's eyes, on the sixth shot when he goes to reload. The gun comes up in recoil and never comes down. It looks like when it comes up in recoil he does the reload immediately before the gun comes back down. I really wish those goggles he is using were available to us all. That would be a fantastic training tool. Chris
  21. I just saw this on the news. Glad to hear you and yours are okay. Hopefully those who are trapped are gotten out quick and okay. Chris
  22. Well...that is an interesting idea. I may have to look at that even for my metallic gun. I would definitely try it if I were shooting production. Chris
  23. I shoot Metallic Division so I have an advantage over Production as I can have a taller magwell. But, it takes more time to aim for the X-ring so I am at a disadvantage against Open guns. My goal is to be able to reliably go prone at the 25 and 50 yard positions on the Practical and at least the 25 yard line on the plates. (The 50 yard line on the Practical isn't really a problem but I want to utilize the prone position at 25 as well). I just need to find the manner to go prone that works best for me. Then I need to practice it on the clock out at the range to make sure I can get it done fast enough to gain the benefit of the more stable shooting position. Chris
  24. How do you guys physically get to the ground? I've tried dropping to my knees and then going forward to a prone position. This does not seem ideal and it is definitely slow. I've seen guys squat directly down and with their weak hand down shoot their feet out behind them and just flop. Seems quicker but physically more difficult. What do you guys do? Could you give us a step by step algorithm of how you go from hands up and vertical to both hands on the gun and horizontal? Please? Some of us need to start practicing getting to the ground quickly. Chris BTW, I searched for the word "prone" back to about '05 and didn't find the answer.
  25. Production pays to 50th place.. metallic only 20th.. i shot production last year(like crap) and still almost got my entry $ back. Just something to think about. Open for me this year.. OT: Jeremy, is your Open gun ready yet? I think I'd want at least 4000 round through it before relying on it at the Cup. Chris
