  1. Great. Glad I could help. Without seeing the gun I don't know if it is the fault of the mag well itself or the installer. Did S&A install it and do the blending? Chris
  2. Do you know if he switches hands for the left side of the barricade? I've tried putting pressure on the face of the barricade with my knuckles but not pushing like hell. I guess that is next to try. Chris
  3. Sounds like it may be blended too much. If you insert the mag with the slide off and the mag catch in the gun then the mag should not go more than a hair deeper than it needs to in order to get caught by the mag catch. If it goes deeper than that then you may need to have the local gunsmith add some material to the front of the mag well so that tab on the front of the mag has something to hit and prevent over insertion. Chris Thank you for the advise Chris! I dremeled down the mag catch and now mags fall free with out a problem. We use Wilson Combat ETMs in our gun, and occasionally on a dry reload we slam them pretty high. There might be an issue with the bottom of our grip frame. I have a smith and alexander mag well and it has been blended to the gun. Maybe not blended enough? or blended too much?
  4. Does anyone else here shoot Metallic or Production regularly? I'm still having trouble with the barricade. I've tried disregarding the barricade, knuckles on the face of the barricade and back of the hand on the outside of the barricade. So far none of these help significantly. Are there any other ideas or pointers? Basically, I haven't found an option that actually helps with keeping the sight steady at the speed that you need to shoot for the barricade. Chris
  5. Sounds like the inside of the mag catch needs to be relieved. I've had to do this with almost all the mag catches I've used in my guns. If you take the slide off and look down the mag tunnel with good light you can see the mag catch. Depress the mag catch and watch how far into the mag tunnel the mag catch goes. You will be able to see how much and where you need to use the file/dremmel tool. What magazines are you using? There may be an issue with the magazines or the bottom of your grip frame allowing you to over insert the magazines. I have a Caspian 9mm as well and can't over insert either Mec Gar mags or Wilson mags. Chris
  6. I assume you are talking about wide body guns. The Caspian grip size is smaller. It's almost the same size as a single stack in the hand. As far as better, that is strictly subjective. Both platforms will do the job. I think is really comes down to whether you like the smaller grip size and more weight in the grip area vs. the larger grip size and weight more up top. You can get some great deals from Caspian/Foster for frames. I would definitely check them out. But it is all about your personal preference. I'd try to shoot both if you can find someone local who has them. Chris
  7. Anybody know who I contact to have a Leupold/Gilmore red dot, with the mover knob, worked on? The dot is very off center in the tube and the adjustments run out before getting it centered. I assume the ring inside has shifted. Thanks, Chris
  8. What weight recoil spring are you using? How much lightening work has been done to the 6" slide? When I first built my 6" top end I shot it with the full profile slide to see how it acted before taking weight off. Whether I had a 10# recoil spring in there or a 14# it would double quite often. For me the slide weight was moving the gun so much that I was resetting the trigger in recoil and then the gun was dipping enough that it would bump fire. All the testing I did would not replicate the problem in dry fire. It would only happen in live fire. If you are not inadvertently bump firing then it is a problem with the trigger parts. The hammer/sear engagement, the interaction of the slide/disconnector/sear or the physical weight of the trigger shoe and trigger bow. I worked on a friend's trigger recently and it kept following after a trigger job. It turned out that the huge aluminum trigger shoe/bow he had in the gun was so heavy that when the gun closed hard the heavy trigger shoe would bounce back and trip the sear. We installed a lightweight Wilson trigger shoe/bow and the problem was solved. Please list more information about the gun/parts and maybe post a pic of the gun so that folks know what parts are on the gun and it might help solve the problem. Chris
  9. It looks like the forum is down. Has anybody logged on recently? Chris
  10. I don't know if you have decided on a barrel yet. But, I put a Schuemann AET bull with the 1/24" gaintwist in my Caspian when I built it. The gun is dead reliable with the 9 round MecGar mags I'm running as well as the 10 round Wilson 9mm mags. The magwell/basepad I'm using is from Warren Moore aka Toolguy on this forum. He makes the good stuff. Chris
  11. Well, I ran across this thread last week. I read up on the links you folks put in the thread. So, I cut out carbs and sugar last Wednesday. I actually upped my overall food intake at the same time. I also started walking in the morning. The first couple days I walked for about 1/2 an hour and now I'm up to a full hour in the morning. So far I like this. I'm dropping weight like crazy and I have more energy through the day. In fact I almost feel amped up during the day. This weekend I'm going to be starting to lift weights again. I haven't done that much in years. Back 15-20 years ago I used to eat anything/everything and stayed around 225 or so. Which for my height, 6'4" is about right for my frame. During law school in the mid/late '90s I went up to 255 and have been around there ever since without much luck of getting rid of it. This past winter I started reducing food portions and got down to around 245'ish but was stuck and had no energy to do anything. I also am very sedentary as I sit at a desk most of the day everyday. I am currently 41 years old. As of today I'm at 234 and have dropped over 10 pounds since last Wednesday. I've been dropping about a pound a day this week. After I reach the 225 area I'm going to reevaluate my diet and may mix some natural carbs back in if I need to in order to maintain weight. We'll see. Thanks for the info guys. It's been a big help. Chris
  12. FYI, my AET has the same mark. It shoots great. Much more accurate that I am capable of. Chris
  13. I have a Bobtail with the external extractor. It works now but apparently the builder never did any fitting or tuning of these external extractors and that is why they had a bad reputation. What I did was contour the extractor much the same way you would for an internal extractor so that the round slips underneath smoothly. And, I had to add tension to the extractor spring. I never looked to see if any other springs are available. I just used a thin spacer under the spring. The gun runs great now. I can't help with what sight cut that is. You might try calling Dan Wesson to ask. Or, go over to the 1911 forum and ask the guys in the Dan Wesson section. They would likely know. Have you shot the gun to see if it runs/extracts reliably? Without shooting it I would say the Dan Wesson should be in the $600 range. However, if it runs reliably then I would take it over a Kimber any day of the week. If it doesn't run or you can't check then the Kimber is probably a better bet. Chris
  14. Thanks for that link. He's a pretty calm dude, that TGO. be Yes, he certainly is. I asked him about his hits later and he said those two shots just under the wire were an 8 and a 10. That's damn amazing. They don't call him TGO for nothing. For any of the rest of us those would have been 5's at best but probably misses. And, after this happened you could tell he wasn't happy but he didn't throw anything or act out in any way. You can tell he has been there and had it go both good and bad before. It just is what it is. I'm glad I got to see him shoot. Chris
  15. I don't know that I would want to see a venue or date change. I would like to see if it is possible to do it in three days rather than four. Two days of shooting and one day for the Shoot-off and awards. This would cut down on the number of days people have to take off work to shoot the event. I know that at least some folks don't shoot the cup simply because they can't take off most of a week of work. Whereas, running the match on Friday thru Sunday or even Thursday thru Sunday would allow more people the possibility of attending. It seems that some stages might be a bottle neck so it might not be possible without expanding to add more stage bays. Just ideas. I had more and better ideas while I was in Columbia but I've slept since then and don't remember them. I do remember that they were good. Chris
  16. This was my first time at the Bianchi Cup. However, I have some limited experience with running local USPSA clubs. That said, I'm quite sure the NRA folks worked their asses off on this match. This was more of an all inclusive event than USPSA Nationals was when I went. (This is not intended to denigrate USPSA or the people who run the Nationals). I am very impressed with the job they did. If we really want to talk about constructive ideas I will throw mine out there. The traveling show sounds good to me but it would require a large outlay of time and money which probably isn't there. My suggestion would be to have the NRA try and help sponsor getting local clubs set up to run the four Bianchi stages. It seems that USPSA is trying to do this with the Steel Challenge. Maybe provide information and discount/monetary support for getting the plate racks purchased, barricades built, and mover built. Turning target stands are nice to have but not ultimately necessary. For many clubs it may also require building new berms that can be dedicated to AP use at the local ranges. The NRA may already provide some support for this and I just don't know about it yet. But, if not then it may be a way to help support clubs and increase Cup turnout as well. Chris
  17. Anybody have any close up pics of TGO's gun from this year? I meant to ask him if I could take some pics on Friday but I missed him. I'm interested in the slide and front of the gun. Chris
  18. Here is a video clip of TGO shooting the mover when he had a jam/FTF. Chris ETA: Here is a better link.
  19. I was flipping through the channels and saw some female golfing. I wasn't really interested and don't know when/where the match was held. But, a competitor had already finished and was waiting for another competitor to putt for the final score. When the competitor who was putting missed the putt that would have beated the woman who was finished that woman started to celebrate while the other woman was still finishing her putt. This all within hearing distance of the woman still competing. I didn't see any of the rest so I'm not sure what happened. But, I thought it was in very bad taste that someone started celebrating while a competitor still had to finish all within hearing distance of the other competitor. I hate bad sportsmanship. Or, sportswomanship. I guess the NFL attitude is spreading to the other sports. Chris
  20. I'm with the others. I don't think it matters the brand of press. It's the user or a screwed up powder drop that would most likely cause a squib or double. I've seen people have both from Lee and Dillon. However, the folks I've seen have the problems I wouldn't trust to load my ammo regardless what press they used. BTW, I've had one squib load in all the thousands I've loaded on my Lee presses. It was caused by trying to drop a small powder volume with the Lee adjustable charge bar which is a useless item the way they designed it. But, it wasn't the presses fault. It was the fault of the charge bar. And me for not making sure the damn thing worked consistently before actually loading ammo with it. Chris
  21. I voted no. I don't sort anything except revolver brass. On Revo I sort out Winchester and Federal since they have thicker bases and I want that to be uniform for a match. However, for practice I will shoot anything even in the revolver. I don't even sort out crap brass. As long as it is brass I load it and shoot it. Of course, my STI Limited gun will run even covered in mud and with a muddy mag loaded in it. I know this because I tested it out when I shot the Double Tap match this year. Chris
  22. That's exactly what I'm saying!! It's just cheating. With a dot nothing else really matters. Just stick the dot on there and say "GO." Chris
  23. I've been shooting Limited almost since I started USPSA in '06. And, I've refused all temptation to shoot Open guns for more than a couple rounds. I know my will is only so strong. Well, I've been practicing getting ready to shoot my 9mm 1911 in Metallic Division at my first Bianchi cup in a few weeks. BUT, I decided to throw a red dot on a revolver to shoot a second gun at the Cup in Open. I wasn't really thinking clearly. I forgot my lack of will. Now I'm trying to figure out how to put a red dot on everything else I own. I wonder if I can just hang red dot sights from the front of my hat so I'm looking through them all the time? Hello, my name is Chris and I'm addicted to red dot. Chris
  24. Lady Ga Ga is like a car wreck on the highway. I don't wanna look. I really don't. But, when I look I just wonder what the hell is she going to do next. The damn tune is stuck in my head now, too. But, it replaced a Green Day song so I'll accept almost anything to get rid of those jack asses. Chris
