  1. Has anyone tried the Tactical Solutions Glock .22 conversion, the TSG-22 http://www.tacticalsol.com/tshome/category/22conversions I'm curious if it holds up and runs well enough to justify the price. When I shot 1911's, my Marvel Unit 2 was pretty damn finicky about what ammo it'd use. I'm interested in one of these for some quiet practice, the threaded one for a can. I assume since the slide is steel and uses glock sights, any aftermarket sights will slide in too?
  2. Hi Jens, As the original starter of this thread, this is along the lines of what we were looking for. The website is a little sparse on information, based on the donation request I assume sign-up is free. Any demo/screenshots on the site to checkout? Thanks.
  3. +1 on the fair warning for having a computer that can crunch the output into something useful. With the rate that video codecs are changing, I wouldn't dump a lot of money into a pocket cam. Shop for one 'good enough' I bought one of these a while back. I'll make someone a deal on it if they want it. I mostly stick to still with my DSLR still. 1080p / 720p@60fps Aiptek HD GVS http://www.aiptek.com/Camcorders/HD/GVS/Features/
  4. Very interested in a LAMP solution. Already have a Linux server at home running a number of things.
  5. We have a lot of volunteer geeks in our area, myself included. The Beach Bunny software being Windows-only makes it a non-option since a couple guys run Macs. I was hoping for a simplified PHP app or something flexible of that nature if anyone knows of such a solution.
  6. I run a local IDPA match. We shoot every Tuesday Night, 4 stages, with usually 20 to 35 shooters. We're currently using a spreadsheet based approach to score but it's tedious for data entry. (We score on paper, then calculate & post scores via the spread sheet) (Attached). Anyone have an easier / quicker means of entering scores? I've heard someone has a PHP IDPA scoring solution around here... / forum only accepts zip files, not ods or xls spreadsheets. Thanks, Barry pistol tuesday score template.zip
  7. How much was the upgrade to the G21sf?
  8. Sorry to revive a thread dead for nearly 3 months, but I just saw the results from my recent GSSF match were updated with "1 GUN PLACE" next to my name. I won a Glock. SO, What Glocks is a winning certificate good for? I've read places that the certificate lists choices... what choices are typical?
  9. Here are the instructor notes we plan to run thought tomorrow. Let me know if anyone see's any gaps in what we plan to talk through in two hours tomorrow night.
  10. Thanks for the info - I'm in agreement with all the points added. Did anyone have a link or short history of USPSA / IDPA and practical shooting they could share or point to?
  11. I recently took over a weekly IDPA Match at our local club. We usually have around 30 shooters every Tuesday Night. At the request of the club and some new shooters, I agreed to hold a 2 hour Introduction to Practical Shooting class to shooters comfortable attending their first match. Below is the first draft at a rough outline of what I plan to cover. Anyone have an outline of their own they would share or have tips on things to cover? This will be an intro stressing safety, we'll mention all sports up front but then focus on the IDPA side of it. A number of folks signing up have also asked for guidance on equipment.
  12. After a long bout with cancer and other ailments, my maternal-grandfather and my introduction to hunting and shooting sports passed away last week.
  13. You can use a strap wrench to install and remove the handguard once it is glued to the barrel nut. In my case, I installed the rifle length tube over-top of the low-profile gas block. If I can't remove the gas block first, will the strap wrench approach still work? Just trash the gas tube I guess and replace it? Thanks.
  14. I have an 18" CMMG upper that was apparently put together by a gorilla on steroids with gallons of locktite handy. It shipped with an A2 flashhider and rails. It took me days of reading, grunting, and torching the flashhider before I finally got it off and replaced it with a 3Gun proper comp. I bought a Clark Carbon Fiber free float tube to replace the rails but yet again I find the set screws on the gas block are set in stone. I've shattered 2 allen wrenches and turned a third into a twisty. Since YHM FF tubes all use the same barrel nut and slip over the gas block, I'm thinking of cutting my losses. Sell the Clark tube, buy another YHM smooth tube, and then sell the new barrel nut that comes with it with my old rail. Then I'm done in minutes. (Also a little concerned now on how you remove a Clark tube if the gas block or anything got loose post gluing-install?) To my question, do any other Freefloat tubes use the same YHM Barrel nut assembly? DPMS perhaps? Just looking for smooth free-float options that might save me some work on this upper.
  15. The next question, How do you remove one of these Clark handguards if you decide you don't like the thing?
  16. I've run my Marvel conversion on a 9mm STI frame without any problem. The longer ejector is not a problem.
  17. http://www.fusionfirearms.com/ Bob can build you one on an STI frame w/ no-mim for about that price.
  18. I'm happy with my El Cheapo solution: Aiptek A-HD. It was ~$120 almost a year ago and does high definition 720P at 30fps. Uses cheap SD memory cards too. Their latest model does up to 1080i resolution and up to 60fps $199. http://www.aiptek.com/ The sounds quality isn't that great and the HD video editing and playback can be hard on an older PC. (cpu intensive h.264 encoding)
  19. I had one built for USPSA SS and also ordered one of his forged frames. So far so good. It as good or better than my STI trojan. I resprung mine after it arrived, blended the magwell myself (it will not take a CMC 10rd mag stock), and reshaped the wide-ambi safeties so they don't dig into my knuckle. I'll have to get some photos of the updates added. His standard black oxide finish doesn't hold up to kydex too well, a trip IonBond is probably in my pistols future. I'm 99% sure Bob sources those STIppled frames from STI, mine looks identical to my Trojan aside from the Fusion stamp on it. His forged frame arrived pretty rough. Some pretty deep tooling marks inside and the hammer slot is taking forever to file out to take a normal STI hammer. This is the first 1911 i've built so I don't know if that's typical for a raw frame. I'll try to get photos up of it sometime. A bigger write-up and more photos are at http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=203609 Bob has lots of fans over there.
  20. They're Fusion parts. I was looking for ideas to shape the rear of the right-side safety rather than just filing the whole side down.. Any photos handy of how your safety is shaped SLM? I only meant 'thin' in the sense of making them less wide, not cutting down on the thickness any.
  21. I had my new 1911 delivered with W I D E ambi safeties. I like the wide gas-pedal on the left but the right side safety gets into my trigger-finger knuckle at the rear right of the safety. Anyone have tips on cutting down the right side safety? Just file it straight down to make it thinner or have people shaped them to fit better (still keeping some width further forward). Photos would be appreciated.
  22. If I read it correctly, you paid $45 in parts (Bushing & link) and $120 in labor and essentially $10 ammo. $120/hr is higher than our local smith who was charging around $50/hr the last time I used him. Rates should vary based on the skill of the smith, as a weekend rush job I'd expect to pay more. At least he took the time to give an education in what was happening but I'd definitely get a quote before ever using him again. As they say, "You can have fast, cheap, good. Pick two."
  23. Aiptek digital recorders are decent. They are HD, sub-$200, and use cheap SDHC memory. They work well to catch and combine clips from matches. It's small and cheap enough to drag along despite the weather. It's not really a real camcorder but I've been happy with my older A-HD. http://www.aiptek.com/Merchant2/merchant.m...p;Store_Code=AS
  24. It finally arrived. My new Fusion USPSA Single Stack gun. My other .45acp 1911s were a Nighthawk Custom Talon and a Colt XSE S80 worked over by Harrison Custom. I didn't want to tinker with either of them or put them through the abuse that I've subjected my 9mm STI Trojan to. I sold the Colt, Series 80 internals aren't my favorite, and placed my order with Bob Serva at Fusion Firearms. I really like my STI Trojan. Over time I've switched out a fair number of parts. Shelf-styled slide release, front sight, mag release, entire ignition kit, etc. I tried a few of the larger shops to get a Trojan with a few of those items but they were not interested. They only quoted me their usual packages and said they don't install customer supplied parts (like the shelf-styled slide release). The Fusion is well done. It's a cast frame, STIppled and branded as Fusion but I believe STI produces them for him. It is identical to my Trojan frame. A forged tri-topped slide without any forward serrations. It's finished out with a Ramped barrel, wide-ambi safeties, FO front, Champion Bomar-clone rear, Koenig-clone split hammer, Ti strut, sig/shelf style slide release, and a STIppled mainspring housing & well. (I like the STIppling better than checkering). The trigger is a very decent pull with what I believe is around a 4lb break. The fit is excellent, a bit smoother and tighter than my Trojan, although my 9mm Trojan isn't as tight as a buddies new Trojan. At twice the price, the fit and finish on the NHC is a noticeable step up. The Fusion mag well is not blended at all, and it will not accept Chip McCormik 10rd or Novak 8rd magazines. The supplied MecGar Elite and my Wilson 47Ds work. It appears I'll need to widen the magwell some. It arrived test fired with ~20 casings in the box. The finish is Bob's standard Black Oxide which looks decent, time will tell how well it holds up. The bluing on my STI Trojan quickly wore away - I may be sending it and this new Fusion up the road to IONBond this fall. I got it out to the range for the first time yesterday and am impressed. Only about ~150 rounds through it so far but it ran 100%. It even ran way-too-short 200gr SWCs that I loaded a while back which would not run at all through my Colt or NHC (non-ramped barrels). It feels like it's sprung a bit higher than the 16lbs I asked for, but it's an easy change and it still had no problem running some light loads. I'm impressed with it so far and hope to feel the same a few matches down the road. Fusion came through, although they seem to suffer from optomisic delivery dates like some other small smiths. I order it & a .22 build in late February and was told 8-10 weeks for them. This .45 finally arrived at my shop June 9th, and the .22 was still going to be another "3 weeks". I guess the old saying is "you can have fast, cheap, quality. Pick two."
  25. I'll play. Just added another single stack to my quiver. Maybe I'll get out of C in SS one of these days. NHC Talon .45 / STI Trojan 9mm / Fusion .45
