  1. Anyone seen or had a chance to play with one? Saw it on STI's website. Definitely looks different. I'm not sure I understand what is different (besides the sighttracker style barrel).
  2. I'm looking to have a 9mm 1911 built up for steel and Single Stack Minor. I'm trying to decide between a ramped barrel vs. non-ramped. Could someone shed some light on the issue? I know that in .45 the preference is completely for the non-ramped barrel. In .40 the ramped seems to dominate. Any help would be great. Also, any other specific parts that would be recommended for a 9mm 1911? I've read that slide stops specific to 9mm are necessary, but any other hints?? Thanks!!
  3. Wow, that guy is back? Don't worry Ben, much respect!
  4. How do you force yourself to dry fire? DON'T DO IT! (I will be though...)
  5. I thought the match itself wasn't very impressive. A round count of 306 rounds (limited) and only 16 stages (with one dropped) didn't make the nationals any different than most area matches. I would think that for the money, talent, staff, etc. at the match that people would walk away with a pretty unique experience. The stages themselves didn't challenge in the same way that last year's did (shorter distances, less activated or moving targets, less steel). It was as if once all the stages where up someone walked it and realized that it would be a hoze-fest so they threw as many no-shoots out as they could. After talking with several people that have shot alot of international matches, I just think that the nationals should be something that "wows" people and is a step above anything else out there. Like I said, in terms of stages (design, round count, and number-16), vendors, pomp-and-circumstance, the nationals felt like just another area match. And by the way, who gave the old guy at the entrance to the range a speed-detecting radar!! As for good things, the staff was great, the location has a lot to offer, and it was nice not to be stuck in the rain. Not sure who it was at the Lim/lim-10/rev awards that gave the speech about the need for young blood in the RO and staff cadre, but I think he hit the nail on the head. In order to create a truly awesome nationals a lot of work and effort is needed (that isn't to say that staff or ro's there didn't do a great job).
  6. Very interesting. Mink shot very very well at Area 3!
  7. For those at the Open/Production nationals, how bout some updates with scores, details, video???
  8. Seriously, no one has pictures yet?! (so much anticipation).
  9. We need some pictures of this thing FAST!!!
  10. Thanks Hougan, I think I understand what I'm doing, the issue is correcting it. This doesn't occur during most of my shooting, just the long range stuff. I don't think its a grip issue though, as I usually am about 60/40.
  11. I've encountered an issue in my shooting that pops up primarily when shooting targets at distance (25y+). I find that I reset the trigger slowly and as soon as it is fully reset, pull the trigger quickly. What results is a less accurate pull and a slower follow up shot. I know that in the past I have been taught that accurate shooting, like group shooting, should be done with a smooth release of the reset followed by a smooth pull of the trigger. However, for our game, a fast immediate reset followed by a smooth pull of the trigger is, IMO, the way to go. Now that I've diagnosed a problem, how the heck do I break the habit?! Anyone have ideas for drills or ways to correct this? I've been shooting bill drills at distance (50yards) as well as groups with a heavy focus on my reset. Any and all ideas welcomed!
  12. I take the original question to mean, when moving from port/box A to port/box B, what is the time difference when comparing moving without reloading to moving while reloading. If you have a production shooter vs. a limited shooter, and the production shooter must make a reload, I think its safe to say that in almost all cases the limited shooter will be slightly faster (assuming all things being equal with the two). In my own practice the difference comes down to .2-.3 tenths. A quick reload by mr. production will make the difference negligible, but there is less body movement and less possibility for error with mr. limited. Several people have noted that limited times are usually faster. I would propose that this is largely because of stage planning. Take a 32 round field course with some complexity. The production shooter is often forced to engage targets in a less than ideal order (meaning less time efficient compared to limited) based on round capacity. The limited shooter is afforded the benefit of options in deciding how to deal with a stage. Check my lowly video from the 06 Kentucky Sectional. . The stage could have been run very differently (and efficiently) with more bullets in the gun. However, how significant is all this? If you have reload for round count reasons, you have to do it. Better to be moving that static (that, I think, is indisputable). If you don't have to reload, then get your butt moving. My .02cents
  13. I've looked at the Ponsness/Warren website several times.... that thing looks like the ticket!! Any info would be appreciated here as well. Looks like Dawson has it available on their website too, might be worth a phone call.
  14. I have the same problem with my 30sf. Its gotten better after use (leaving the mags loaded). I also download the mag by one.
  15. Its a bit hard to say without being able to see hits and times, but perhaps I can give a suggestion that I've been working on myself lately. I know I have a hard time changing speeds. In other words, if my shooting in a position requires smooth and deliberate shots (as it appears are required in your video at each array), then I tend to move the same: smooth and deliberate. I think some time can be gained, however, by moving aggressively and explosively between those arrays where several steps are required. In other words, EXPLODE from position to position while still setting up smoothly. Once you've called your last shot in the array, there is no need for anything but explosive movement to the next setup. Just something to consider!
  16. I'm glad someone brought this up. I had the same problem with an EGW in 9mm and just stopped using it. I'll be sending it back. Thanks!
  17. I used Atlanta Arms at major matches all last season (the AMU 147gr.) in both their new and reloaded. It's excellent stuff and ran flawlessly in my CZ sp-01.
  18. I can't wait! Parma is a great facility that has tons of unused potential. It'll be a great time.
  19. With the polygonal barrel in the EAA Elite Limited's, are there any problems with shooting lead or moly bullets in .40? Has anyone had any problems shooting these through their limited? I know they smoke a bit and are pretty dirty in my CZ 9mm, but want to check on the EAA> Thanks!
  20. I've got one practically brand new for sale in the classifieds! Anyone interested let me know.
