  1. Interesting... Thanks for all the ideas. I do think it might be something to do with PD bullets, since I wasn't having the problem with other stuff. I've got some Rainier Ballistics 147gr. that I'm going to load today and see if that might be it. I'll also be purchasing a EGW U die. I'll update and let you know what works. Thanks again.
  2. I've been having some strange problems that I can't figure out with my 1050. I've been reloading 9mm minor loads with 147gr. Precision Delta TC FMJ's. The problem is that with certain brass the bullet doesn't stay seated. While case gaging my rounds I have been pushing on the bullet to make sure its seated and the crimp is holding the bullet. With certain brass (ie. Federal and Speer) the bullet always drops into the case. So... is this a problem with my reloader, crimp die, seating die, or is it a problem with my brass?? Winchester brass doesn't seem to have the problem, but almost every Speer case or Federal does. Could it be a bad batch of brass or what? I've never had the problem before, but all of a sudden it's struck. Any and all help is appreciated.
  3. It can get a little dull dry firing that much doing the same drills. I understand! Just try to think of new variations to the drills in SA's book. For instance, take his draw 1, reload 1 and vary it. Do the same drill only reload while moving laterally or horizontally. Do the entire drill while on the move. Do the drill with a draw while moving and a static reload. Then do the drill and fire your second shot after the reload with your strong/weak hand. Just out of that one drill you can make another 6+ just by adding movement (and movement is usually key in this game). Apply the same principals to all the drills. Just some ideas. Best of luck.
  4. The SP-01 doesn't have a ton of options out there on the market (besides the competition world). That being the case, I really think it's worth it to pick up decent stuff right off the bat. You'll save money from the cheap stuff that you'll want to replace down the road. I'd pick up a Bladetech DOH holster for sure. They aren't the cheapest but they are the best IMO. I use CR speed mag pouches, but there are some alternatives. Check out www.comkydex.com. He makes good quality kydex and his mag pouches (for the CZ 75) are around $20-22 as opposed to $30+ for the CR speeds. Also, www.ghostholster.com as mentioned above is the source for CZ stuff. Just some ideas.
  5. Interesting idea. I'm a bit surprised that it'd be a-ok for production. Any pictures available? I'm curious to see how you like it.
  6. So Matt, what's the scoop on this gun and availability?? (while we're at it, any word on the CTS?)
  7. Any word on when we might see this in the states??
  8. Like I said, give that ejector a sharp angle out to the ejection port and I'd bet it'll work like a champ. On just about every ejector I've seen there is a different angle that looks just as you described. Let me know how it turns out.
  9. pbosik-- Just an idea for you. I've been shooting an SP-01 for a while and had one that had the exact same problem. It usually happened when I was shooting light production loads. I'd get that same weird stovepipe/FTE on occasion. I tried just about everything to fix it... What finally worked was to recut the ejector. If you look at the ejector, sometimes the angle cut isn't sufficient. I recut (with a file) the angle so that it's now angled down, back, and towards the ejection port and all my problems went away. Here's a link for more info: http://www.czshooters.com/forum/viewtopic....hlight=guidance Good luck (pm for more info)
  10. I've been playing around with a handy video camera my wife got me (FlipVideo) and posted some videos from the Idaho and Utah State Championships as well as a local match or two. Click on the link below and it should connect with the videos. It's been interesting to see myself shoot from the third person perspective... lots to improve on! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3161325983610608917 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7866002969863264201
  11. Just like cztn said, give Angus a call and pick up some 15lb mainsprings and 11lb recoil springs. With a light production load you don't need much of a recoil spring (11 has worked perfectly for me). The 15lb mainspring is nice for the DA trigger pull, and some people even cut coils off of that. I'd suggest sticking with the 15lb stock spring just because the light ones lend to light primer strikes after a while.
  12. Wow guys, some really good stuff. This thread is getting printed off. Thanks Brian for the insights. I like the idea of naming the state you hope to place yourself as it seems to work in recalling it. Just another question, how do you program a "mental pause" that isn't necessarily an actual, physical, temporal pause? Thanks a ton!
  13. I was hoping that some folks with the Witness Elite Limited gun could post some pixs of their guns all set up for limited class. I'm interested! Thanks
  14. Thanks for all replies (both serious and comical). j1b- I understand what you're saying. All the mechanics involved (draw, trigger control, reloads, movement) should be subconscious based on practice and repetition. Any time I focus on one, it seems to distract. However, I'm currently comparing two ideas: 1. Shooting with a mantra that focus's my mind on something (for example, "sight picture", "2 alpha", "smooth", "one shot per target", etc) vs. 2. Trying to prep my mind to be blank and focused by eliminating consiouc thought and opening my awareness. In many ways these two are very similar in that they both aim at focusing the mind with slight variances.
  15. For those that don't "think" about anything at the beep, do you have a way to get that focus or clarity (what helps you will yourself into that state)? Have you noticed a difference between runs where you weren't thinking anything at all (just observing) or those in which you are prepping with a mantra (like Steve's 2 Alpha, 2 Alpha, etc.)?
  16. Steve- this "lack of arousal" definitely seems to set in when incliment weather is involved or towards the end of a very big match. Sometimes even when you're shooting with a long squad and you're towards the end. I don't know about others, but I've had the "let's get this over with" thought creep in at times and it certainly doesn't make for good shooting!
  17. What is the last thought that goes through your head before you shoot a stage? Do some people have a specific mantra or saying? Or do you have some trick you use to get everything out of your mind? I'm interested in what others have as far as rituals before the buzzer sounds. Seems pretty important and perhaps overlooked (at least by me as of late).
  18. I volunteer Ben!! (after the thrashing you gave me out in Iowa) Just kidding. I'm learning that sometimes we just need to kick your own butt into gear and move FASTER. It's easy at a match to be chatting with your fellow shooters and i(n the pursuit of being relaxed), become lethargic. I like what others have said about keeping the body aggressive, the will competitive, and the mind focused.
  19. Good to know that things are on track then. I've really been enjoying my practices lately as I've been having a lot of little "revelations". I think that comes from trying to be very observent (ala Beyond Fundamentals) while shooting.
  20. I have noticed that at times during my shooting (in practice or in matches) I will pick a spot on a the first target I want to shoot and really focus hard on that spot as I'm waiting for the beep, trying to clear my mind and prepare for what I want to see when the gun comes up. While this focus has always seemed like a good idea, it rarely happens that the first shot out of the holster hits that spot.... I got to thinking about this phenomenon while practicing the other day and it dawned on me. The problem with that intense focus on a spot on the target is that when the gun comes up, I'm still "target focused" and the sights are blurred. That usually means a poor shot especially at greater distances. I caught myself doing that and instead of just focusing on the spot on the target while waiting for the beep, I tried to focus on the sights resting on that spot on the target (changing from a target focus to a sight focus). It's just one of those little things but seems to make a difference for me!
  21. All great posts! I was thinking, I'm learning and trying to find a mixture of a firm and aggressive grip/stance/movement with visual patience and mental calm. I think for a long time those two seemed at odds for me...
  22. Wow, perfect timing Jake. I was just thinking about this very thing. I noticed a similar thing, in that at a recent match (Idaho Glock's Only) I could tell a noticable improvement on stages where I felt aggressive with a more firm grip and stance and just attacked the stage (that's the best way I can describe it). I've begun thinking about trying to replicate a certain feeling behind the gun. My question to you and others (not to change the subject) is do you notice a difference with tension/firmness issue depending on the type of targets to engage? I've noticed I'm more aggressive on stages with open close targets and yet more "loose" on stages with tougher shots. Has anyone else noticed this? If this is too much of a hijack of your thread, I'll be glad to move. (Congrats on the win btw)
  23. I was so excited for the flick (I've read and re-read all of Hunter's books) and was dissapointed. I don't know what the deal was with Danny Glover's speech (hard to take serious when he sounds like a 13 year old with a new retainer) and I was pretty dissapointed with the casting (aside from Donny Fenn's fiance . Seems like they picked and chose certain elements from the book but missed a lot of the good stuff. It's too bad because the books are absolutely the best and most accurate depictions of firearms out there (imho)... Hunter is an IPSC shooter (i've heard) and makes several references to Swagger's IPSC exploits. They just didn't capture the potential from the book.
  24. Clubs within driving distance are in Rolla (Central Ozarks Practical Shooters), Jefferson City, PASA (Illinois, where the Single Stack will be), and the two mentioned above. PM me for more info, I have some contact names and numbers if you're interested.
  25. Check out the Arnold Rifle and Pistol Club (http://rhebert.nightowl.net/) or else Top Gun Shooting Sports (an indoor range at http://www.topgunss.com). Both are excellent clubs!
