  1. I did some testing marking the cylinders with bigger holes. I am on vacation this week and will do more testing. I will post pics then. I noticed a big difference in groups. The biggest was with .356, and the difference decreased as I worked up to .358. Even with .358 there was a difference. But none of the .357 or .358 made it through the cylinder like the .356 below. Look at this, it is just dropping .356 rounds in the cylinder.
  2. I own a 929 and have been thinking about a Super GP100. I am waiting for more after market parts and more reports from people. Why Ruger? ... because I am f-ing tired of the BS Smith pulls on people. Sell a competition gun that is nothing more than a kit. There are all sorts of problems with bullet diameter. Some work fine with .356, others .357, others .358 ... they charge more because "performance center" but there isn't much performance out of that gun out of the box. Is the Ruger better or is it also a parts kit and will it have issues with ammo or will it be a true 9mm? ... I don't know yet. I am waiting on more reports. But if the reports are good, I will get a Super GP 100. I do love that YouTube is full of N frame videos, so working on the 929 was very easy. Now that I am almost done figuring out everything on the 929, it is a great gun, and I have too much fun shooting it. But I had to do a bunch of work to get it there. I knew what Iwas getirng into, but if I was a new shooter that didnt know better, this would be my last Smith for a while. I never send my guns back to the factory, even though I live like 30min from SW (maybe I could drop it off???) but I am also tired of reading the bad experience people have with them.
  3. I won't have a lot of time to test tonight, but what I will do: 1. I will mark the 2 holes that are bigger. 2. I will have 4 or 5 moonclips with .356, .357 and .358 3. I will try to have 4 targets. One for each .356, .356, .358 and one for the two suspected flyers. 4. From a rest, I will shoot 6 in one target, 2 in the other and see if there really is a difference.
  4. I will definitely have to pay attention to that next time I chrono loads.
  5. That is a good idea. I will try that tonight.
  6. Reviving this ... Maybe I am crazy ... I have .3565, .358 and ordered some .357 projectiles. I decided to drop the .358 projectiles in the cylinder, none made it through as expected. Then I did the same with the .3565, some stopped half way through, some made it almost through. It seems like two holes in the cylinder are a little bigger than the rest. WTF?? All the .3565 bullets made it through with the help of a rod. I had to lightly push. So, am I crazy or os it possible to have two holes in the cylinder that are a little bigger than the other? This could alsk explain why when K shoot the .3565 I always get one or two flyers. At 25 yards they are off by an inch or so.
  7. Reloads. I was going slow, I did not notice it, I didn't even hear the primer go off. Maybe I was distracted with the light strikes. I don't know.
  8. Hmmm... that is interesting. I did not. But I will take a look at that tomorrow when I go to the range.
  9. This happened today. No one was hurt and I didn't crap my pants (I had to check, lol). I still can't believe I don't have a single scratch. I am posting this here as a reminder to be very careful. I noticed some weird stuff also, the first 5 rounds all had light strikes the first time, then shot the second time. 6th round also, had a light strike. The 7th was the squib, the 8th blew it up.
  10. Do you have an extended cylinder release? If you dont. Consider one. That alone should shave 1 - 1.5 seconds. Your strong hand doesnt need to move, so you dont lose your grip.
  11. The 929 requires very little gunsmithing. I did most myself. Change springs, longer firing pin = 5min of work. Then polish a few parts, I sent that to a smith. I replaced the hammer to make it DAO. This is not required, I had a great 6lbs trigger pull before that, but I like the look and I read on this forum that the lighter hammer had more mass on the top which meant I could mess around with the trigger a little more. Or something like that. If I wasnt competing, the spring change would have been enough to have a great DA pull. Edit to add: I also replaced the front sight, I had a smith do that. My eyes are great and I didnt mind the factory sight, but a Dawson front sight is just amazing. But, I dont think I would have touched the sight if I wasnt competing. I wish the 929 had a shorter reset. The trigger is smooth, but I had to go through a learning curve when shooting fast.
  12. I wouldnt say they are inferior quality, it all depends what you want to do. If you are only reloading plinking ammo, you can go all Dillon, even for pistol march ammo Dillon will be good. But if you want a seating die with a micrometer adjustment or a U sizing die, you will have to look somewhere else. I use Hornady seating and crimping (because I already had those) and a Lee U sizing die because Dillon doesnt sell one. For presicion rifle I have a mix of Lee, Hornady and Redding.
  13. I use Bayou. FYI ... they are running about a month behind. I just received an order I placed on May 9th. But their website says to expect around a 3 week delay.

    929 Brass

Dont be afraid of Federal primers. I crushed these two Fedeal 100 primers a couple of weeks ago. Nothing happened. As far as Brass, for the 929, I have a box with 4K casings, all mixed, Geco, Blazer, Win and like 5 or 6 other head stamps. They all run fine, no issues. I tried aluminum and steel casing as well (Blazer), and had 0 issues. I run several moonclips, TK, whatever came with the gun and a few I found online. They all work fine. And, I shoot 160 Bayou standard, I think they are .355 or .356. I have had 0 issues, accuracy is great.
  15. Hi guys, new to the forum, but joining mainly because I bought a SW929 and every time I Googled an N320 load, or anything to do with a 929, this forum would appear. I realize the thread is a little old, but just posting it so there is more data. This past weekend I loaded 160g 9mm Bayou with N320. All 3 loads seated at 1.200 with Federal primers. 2.8g 3.0g 3.1g 2.8 was just barely above 125 pf. 3.1 was around 133 pf. 3.0 was perfect.
