  1. Springfield XD Tactical: 5.5gr Unique 115gr Zero Winchester Primer C.O.L.= 1.125 P.F.= 140 Most folks say thier XDs will shoot most anything well but for some reason mine will not. Mine absolutely will not group well at all with 147s and they impact 10" high. The load above is one I settled on after MANY frustrating hours of experimenting with various bullet and powder combinations. I wanted in the worst way to shoot 147s because of the softer felt recoil but now I'm used to the snappier recoil from the 115s and they group real well and impact at point of aim. Good luck.....Dan
  2. Whatever you do stay away from anything with the "RADIAN" name associated with them. The price may sound tempting but they are a "POS"
  3. I'm in the process of trying some different powders in an effort to get the best accuracy out of my XD9 Tactical. I had been using Titegroup under 147gr. Zero bullets loaded pretty light and I'm just not satisfied with the accuracy. I've decided to start from scratch and try 147, 124, and 115s over the Titegroup, Unique and 231 and load each one from the minimum to the maximum and then shoot some groups. My question has to do with the Unique powder. Is Unique a compressed load in the 9mm? I was really suprised at how full my cases are with this powder after using the Titegroup for so long. It seems to fill the cases full enough that it is borderline if I will get the bullet seated to the published depth. Can someone experienced with Unique let me know if this is normal? Thanks alot.
  4. Can anyone tell me the twist rate for the XD9 Tactical? I can't seem to find the answer by using the search feature. Thanks........
  5. May not be practical but on the finished concrete floor would a shop vac work for you? I live in the country and shoot along the North and East sides of my garage. I used to use the sheet gathering method but found it to restrictive as far as movement. I used a skid loader to take the sod off (approximately 4" deep) 10 feet out from the sides of my garage and filled it with gravel. Now I can set up stages and transition along and around the corner of my garage and all my brass lands in the gravel. Takes me about 10 minutes to pick up 3 or 4 hundred rounds of brass when I'm done shooting. I still use a tarp once in awhile if I'm just going to shoot groups and not move around.
  6. Thanks for all the tips and advice everyone. I do have Brians book so will check out the page Chuck referred to. When I asked this question I sort of figured most were going to say turn to the right. That being said, I must say, I feel more comfortable turning to the left for some reason. I think the suggestions encouraging practice in both directions make alot of sense. At the Minnesota section match this year one stage I remember was set up so a left turn was the more obvious way to go because of the way it was set up. The RO made a point of asking each shooter which way he planned to make his turn. Most right handers did turn to the left on that stage and it was obvious that many had not spent much time practicing the left hand rotation. Thanks again for the tips and if anyone has more to add feel free. I'm fairly new to the sport and can use all the help I can get.....Dan
  7. Thanks Flexmoney....How do I access the video clip. I can't seem to find the link The link just showed up.....Thanks again
  8. I'm just curious as to which way most of you right handed shooters rotate to the target when starting facing uprange. Is it something that you can do either way or is there an advantage to going one way opposed to the other.
  9. I have had good luck with the 147 JHP Zero's with 3.2gr Titegroup but I run an OAL of 1.1 I have only tried these in my XD Tactical but they fly right for me.
  10. Thanks Merlin!!! That is just what I was looking for. Geez this site is great........
  11. Can anyone give me some ideas on building a stand for holding USPSA cardboard targets. I would like to build 8 or 10 stands to use on my farm for practice. Do most of you folks build them out of wood? What do you use to secure the target to the stand? Thanks for any help....
  12. Hello all....New to the forum and just got bit by the USPSA shooting bug. I've pretty much decided on what pistol, caliber, division and all that I'm going to start with and have become a new member of the USPSA. It didn't take me long to realize that I might as well purchase a reloader (Dillon 550) if I'm jumping in with both feet and I have a couple of questions for you folks that have been in it for awhile. I'm going with a XD Tactical in 9mm production division and my first question is where should I start as far as powder type, bullet weight, bullet type(FMJ, JHP etc). My other question has to do with trimming the brass after it has been loaded a few times. I have been loading varmint loads for my 22-250 for several years out of my Rock Chucker and always checked and trimmed my brass for length and used the deburring tool to clean them up. Is case trimming required for pistol brass too. I've never loaded a pistol load and I can't seem to find anywhere that it says it's required to trim them. Also do you just use large or small rifle primers for handgun loads or do they make pistol primers just for this. Thanks for any help and I'm sure this will not be my last set of questions as I get deeper into this USPSA deal....Dan Bell
  13. Here is a pic of my Rock River with 3x9 Burris. Your Leopold is a very good scope and should not be fuzzy.
