    AREA 5

Sorry, you won't have me to kick around this year at the Area 5. It just happens to fall on exactly the same day as the day I have tickets for the Michigan 400 NASCAR race. My son and I have been going for years, so I didn't want to miss it. Tough decision though. I will have to polish my hammers, and practice extra hard to make up for the loss of match time. And this was probably the match I would have won a gun too.
  2. Hey thanks again for everyone hunting me down like a lost dog at the pound. I got in, and got 'er done. Bwana - you need to make one change on your list. I appreciate you upgrading me to 'M'aster class, but unless you can convince Kim of that as well, it should show A (or is it a Fonzirelli "AAAAAYYY!!!)
  3. Well I am one of those people who didn't get any email about the waiting list. Luckily I have good friends instead of good luck. Keith left a message on my cell, and WalterMitty PM'ed me. So I hit the USPSA site and paid up. It says that I am now registered so things must be going good so far. Thanks again Keith and WM. I owe you both a couple the night before. Now I have to contact my factory rep for some more of my special Nationals blended ammo.
  4. What about K. Klesser or E. Catalan?
  5. It's starting to get lonely down there on the possibles list. So what do you Okie's (WM) expect the weather to be like around Nats time? Hot and dusty? Will there be cattle on the range, or do they move them for special events?
  6. Hearthco, Classy move. Now everyone will have moon-envy of the young man.
  7. Thanks for all the replies, guys. I guess my main worry has been the ammo. Last year in the car I took 1K of ammo with me. As you guys all know the match says it's 300+ rounds. Yeah right! If you don't miss or have any reshoots due to happy tapers. (What really sucks is when you bring most of it home after a couple of squibs ) I might have to trim my total round count for this year. The point about littering the highway with ammo is a very good valid point. Thanks for the pinpoint recommendation of the T-bag. I am checking that out now. The ILL. Section is coming up at the end of July and I plan to make that a test run for the Nats. It's only 1.5 hours away from home, so it will let me try things without having to suffer for days. As far as clothes I figure I will have to 'guy' pack. One pair of pants and 5 T-shirts. I figure on the rain suit, but what does anyone think about leathers in OK in Sept.? Anything else you can think of that is a good idea for a 11 hour one way / Week long trip?
  8. I am considering riding my nifty new toy to the Nats in Tulsa. Now the trick is getting a weeks worth of shooting stuff there. Belt, ammo, clothes, etc. Does anyone have any experience with this that doesn't have hard bags and trunks? I have seen the bags that wrap around the backrest but don't which brand is the best, and what are the pitfalls.
  9. FFL, No matter what the gun, I found a good training tip for a young guy who might be lacking some of the arm strength to hold up a gun for a tough day of practice. Although I don't know the size of your son this might help someone out there. I took my son to the Masters in 1989 when he was 9. When he would shoot different handguns, his arms would get tired and he would bend his elbows and bring the gun closer to his face. One of the guys running the class took a folding chair and turned it around. Then had him put his legs through the opening and sit backwards. The back was the perfect height to support his ams, and then it was no longer a test of strength. This allowed him to use the sights and work on sight picture. It also allowed shooting to be fun for him, because of the success he saw. Good Luck to him (and your budget)!
  10. Rob, Unless you have more money than needed, DM had the right idea on how to chamfer a 586/686. I have been spinning the cylinder on mine for 21 years now. $3-4 bucks at the discount tool store for a counter sink with three bits. Five minutes worth of careful work and it will be as aggressively chamfered as you would like. After thats done I wrap some wet/dry 800 grit paper around one of my dummy rounds, oil it with some Rem oil, and polish and blend the surface. In under an hour you can have a pretty impressive looking job completed. The Jerry DVD is priceless. I have used it over and over, and wrenching on revo's is my day job. His video shows you how, and explains why, and why not. His video will show you what type of Norton stone to get. They possibly sell them locally to you, but it's not that big a deal to order one of those from brownell's. Just remember there are about 50 passes leading up to a good job, and just one too many. In Jerry's words your not looking to remove any material, just give it a good surface quality. Good luck with the 586. They are a great gun. I carried mine on duty for years, so you know how much I trust mine.
  11. What about psksy 2? Or is the Williams on here a typo?
  12. Bwana, It can't be only 99 days till the big one. Heck we don't even know who's going yet.
  13. I will post them up as soon as I can. Will let everyone know once I have them out there somewhere. I was only a spectator this day. I was the RO for this stage on Sat. and everyone else went with backing up and/or closing the door. Some of the videos are of you and of Manny. Both show extreme speed in a course of fire.
  14. John, I am using 230 Moly's and VV310 (4.16 gr) at 1.25 OAL, out of a 5" 625. At the IA Section my loads Chrono'ed at 770, 769, 768. At the WI Section my loads Chrono'ed at 763, 765, 766. I did some testing when I switched from Raniers to Moly's and the Moly's gave me exactly 50 fps more. Doing the backwards math you should be coming in around 40-50 fps higher than your getting. What type of gun are you using? What do you get on the chrono if you fire factory Remingtons? I get approx 818 fps from the box.
  15. PSKYS 2, I don't know if you plan to write another fine article for Front Sight on this match. I have quite a few digital videos and photos from the match. Pics & Vids of you, Manny, DougC, and myself. Here is one example of the Stage 3 Van Gambit. I think this move is straight from Starsky & Hutch, or was it Cagney & Lacey?
  16. OK, what's EGW stand for. I am off work today so I have time to play with some of this information. By later today I should either understand or be unable to reload.
  17. I am using Remington brass only, with .452 moly coated bullets. I have never had this problem when I was using Ranier plated bullets. But it started as soon as I switched to the slippery bullets. I have tried FCD only, and normal crimp with FCD to follow. The FCD is a great die to make sure that everything feeds completely. Several people I know who do not use the die have their rounds bulge at the base and not feed into the cylinder completely. It might also be important that I am chrono'ing at 765 fps. so these aren't that hot either.
  18. I am new to Moly bullets. I am using the Bear Creek 230 gr. RN .45's. Under recoil I am seeing some serious pull out. I added some more crimp, and also using the Lee FCD. How hard is anyone crimping these to hold them in place?
  19. Our accomodations at the luxurious Best Western Airport will stand. I looked it up and we are only 8 miles away on the same highway. Even though the match hotel looks nice, I think I will keep the $114 difference. Besides it will probably be the second most secure hotel in the city. Kim - When do you predict that more information will be forthcoming. Before you get swamped thanks for all of your hard work.
  20. Cliff, Coming from you I regard that as high praise. I challenge you to beers at 5 paces in Sept. I choose WM as my second.
  21. My rule for students is: "NOTHING new on race day!" Not new brass, new underwear, new rangebag, New food. Remember the Olympic runner a few years ago, who decided to wear new running shoes for the Gold Medal run. He got creamed because his shoes hurt his feet. We were at a match one time and went to dinner. A bunch of the guys were trying out fried alligator and stuff. The morning of the big match is not the time to realize your allergic to alligator or something.
  22. I was lucky enough to RO Bay 2 with 2 good guys. Thanks everyone for not beating us up too bad. It the first sectional match RO'ing job for all three of us, and it probably showed. We were worried about someone doing a bad thing exiting the van, but it never happened. Stage Four was a great one. It was very tough to shoot, but fun also. I would suggest measuring that one out and sending it in for National use. At least measure it out and post it on the club website for the rest of us to steal it. I had a blast shooting through on Friday with squads 3 & 4. Learned a lot from all of you. Now if you would all just start shooting wheelies! Manny almost committed to getting one..... almost,... I think.
  23. Ken, I don't know. I have been sandbagging as hard as I can, but I keep screwing up in reverse. Since it's going to be the Glock family honeymoon, is anyone else thinking Shivaree???
  24. Ken, I know that I am #1 in your hearts and in your programs.
