  1. George - This is Microsoft Word 2003. There isn't a Project Gallery under File. Any other suggestions?? 'Lady - Thanks for the offer but this baby is low budget. OK to tell the truth it's no budget. We just thought it would be an easy and PC way to bring up some shooter improvement areas in our quickly growing club, without directly pointing any fingers. It would be better to educate many, rather than embarrass just one when it comes to etiquette and such. Plus we just plain have a lot of new shooters, and they want to do things right. If you have any thoughts I always respect your opinion.
  2. Hey Doug, how could you have been 11 on the list, when I am 11 on the list? 'Will the real Number 11 please stand up'. By the way are you going to be at the IA Sect? I'm shooting on Fri. and RO'ing on Sat. will talk to you there if you can make it.
  3. I want to make a very simple two column newsletter for our club. I know how to make two columns, but I want some type of snappy looking template that must live somewhere inside of Word. Anyone have any experience here? Thanks.
  4. Put it in a box and send it back to S&W. They can fix it. This is not a home fix situation. Don't know if they will charge you, but it's cheaper than the alternative. You can find the address for SAWREP on their website, or if not let me know and I can post it for you.
  5. Prof, That's cool that you were #103 and got your slot. I am number 11 as I have since the first week, and still haven't gotten a peep out of anyone. So much for what number you are on the list.
  6. DM, If you want you could tap it for a grease zerk. Then rather than clean in there you can just give a shot with the grease gun until it oozes out the plate. Then you know you have enough. Walt - it would also serve as a nice place to rest your aching thumb.
  7. And whopping pile of ribs the night before doesn't hurt either, apparently.
  8. That Wisconsin air must really agree with you. 100% on the classifier, Wins the WI Sectional, and vaults himself into Master class. All in one day. Way to go Keith!
  9. I would just go with factory ammo next time. Something where you can feel the heat when they chrono it.
  10. "I see, I see" said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw. Thanks for the clarification. I guess you have me on that one!
  11. Jake, I agree with you on the differences between wheelies and bottom feeders. Drill to align the sights, and don't move 'em while your shooting. Doesn't really matter what kind of gun. That's why I like Steve's book so much. I know it's helped me to better organize my training. My question on indexing though is based on Steves' comment Sorry for being thick on this one.
  12. Steve, Would you mind defining what you mean by 'indexing'. Do you mean that the shooter would more point than aim? I have been using your book for about a year now, and made great strides in Revo. This may sound strange but I am using it now to let me slow down on my draw. I have trained to the point that I can reliably make a .88 live fire draw and Alpha at 15 yards. Rather than try to work harder to draw faster, I have now relaxed slightly and am repeating the same at around 1.0 - 1.2. Where the difference is, is that I have greatly increased my confidence in my draw with the faster time and know that I have it. I am getting a good first shot and working the stage rather than the draw. Now I am drilling to improve my reloads (Revo remember). If I can shave .5 seconds per, I can make up for the entire draw through the stage. Does this seem to make sense? Suggestion - When you put out your third book, how 'bout some round gun drills?
  13. Hi Frank, You'll find this forum to be a very friendly bank of knowledge on all subjects. I know that my personal shooting has vastly improved from the help found here. Heck I have even been able to solve computer and DVD problems on here. What do you shoot? We can always use anothe wheelgunner.
  14. Cy, Even I agree with Mike. I guess I missed the fact that this is a carry gun. Sorry for not catching that point. I play with guns all day every day (Ask my wife) and I when it comes to a duty or carry piece I dislike anything other than full go factory. I'm sure that Mike could expand on the liablility aspect in volumes, both from a departmental and a personal standpoint. You might use the a stop for a practice piece, but I will take a boo-boo on the finger over a ouchie someplace else. "It's better to bleed in practice...." I also agree with Doug. When I drove around at night for days on end, my department gave us these for backups. We had to qualify with them if we wanted to carry them. Many qualified expert with the 2 inch barrel. And don't feel lonely getting pinched like that. My pistol team from work has 5 members. For many years not every one of us has the same pinched mark on our trigger finger by the end of the season, shooting K frames.
  15. Here is the latest rendition of the 'Claw Hammer'. It is 313.0 grains. I think this is where I will stop. Without a mill to cut straight into the area below the hammer face, and without cutting the tail off I don't think the return is worth the effort to go farther. I have found that the head of a MIM hammer is VERY hard. To cut the area out it took two cobalt drills and a titanium dremel/router bit.
  16. Cy, Here are a couple of crude pictures of my 'Sili-Stop'. Hope it helps.
  17. Cy, My cheap fix for a trigger stop works pretty good. Just put a squirt of clear silicone sealant (the kind that dries, not the kind that stays pliable) behind the trigger. Lightly oil the trigger guard before starting so the silicone doesn't stick or your first try will be a practice one. With the grips off the gun, run a piece of wire around the trigger guard and through the trigger. Tighten the wire sloooowly until the hammer drops. Back of ever so slightly and leave for a day or two. Once dry take a flat razor blade or exacto knife and trim off any excess. Your new hillbilly trigger stop will last for years.
  18. Bubber, Yeah they were in the plain old usual blue box, gold in color. I bought them last year some time before I began to chase the elusive '150'. Since they worked pretty well, I figured I could load them up for practice rounds, and save my precious primers for the 'big' matches.
  19. http://www.bestwesterntulsaairport.com/index.htm On Expedia it says that the room would be $68 a night for a double for 2. I called the hotel direct and asked if they could do better. The girl gave me the room for $60. So we saved $48 for the cost of a 2 minute phone call. Looking on my map program it says there are about 14 restaurants within 1.5 miles. I know that is as the crow flys, but at least we won't have to drive as far from Ice House to Hannibal or Quincy to get breakfast. Nemo - the parking lot should be at it's safest in years. "Hello Front Desk... I keep hearing this clickety-clickety-clickety noise?"
  20. Tom Mainus and I will also be staying at the luxurious Best Western Airport. Apparently the unofficial match hotel. By the way I called and complained about having trouble booking a room online, and that I was a gold crown club member, and the girl knocked an extra $10 a night off the room. Now I can afford to go ahead and put powder in all of my rounds. Also by staying with Tom I am sure to have a holster. Somebody start polishing those trophies now.
  21. On the subject of hammers. Anyone have any good suggestions on the type of drill bit to use for drilling the hammer. I tried a few metal bits that I thought might work, but they don't even scratch the surface. We have a machine shop at my day job, but they REALLY frown on bringing gun parts to work.
  22. Gregg, When you insert the tool with the star also in place, how much clearance is there from the cutter to the ratchets? Does it rub immediately? Could you have gone much deeper? It looks like you did a pretty nice job by the way.
  23. Dave, You kind of answered your own question there. The hammer mounted firing pin, isn't going to go through the Frame mounted firing pin hole too easily. And if you look at the face of the steel hammer it's not going to like smacking the frame mounted firing pin, with it's forked tongue. On another note - I loaded up some old fashioned everyday Winchester primers tonight and went to practice. I only loaded 18 rounds now, but each and every one fired without complaint. I even fired them without benefit of moon clip just to make it harder on them. Trigger pull set at 7.00 lbs.
  24. IYAOYAS, I think you're doing it right. If everyone doesn't pull their share of the load, the whole thing won't last long. At the 2006 Nationals I watched Jerry Miculek. He pasted and reset just like every other guy on the squad. He didn't feel the need to run down and see what was happening somewhere else. I was on another squad, and he came down to watch a stage I was shooting. He did it when his squad wasn't scheduled, not while others were shooting. If Jerry didn't think it was right or necessary, I doubt the guys you had can claim they need that kind of 'edge'. Some peer pressure might be the answer here.
  25. Jake, Thanks again for RO'ing the other day at the WI. I read Flex's post 3 times like you said, and I agreed with him everytime I read it. If you take care of the accuracy part, the bullet will take care of the scoring part. Would you guys agree that until you have accuracy, nothing else matters. I often tell students "your missing as fast as you can", with that mentality.
