  1. As a beginning IDPA shooter, my goal has been to not worry about time, just be safe, shoot for good hits, and learn the ropes. I recently had an abbreviated stage (5x5?) incorporated into the match I shot. It looks like I scored a point or two into the next classification up. Will that score in the abbreviated classifier give me the next higher level? (MM to SS) I felt like I had a good day based on my goals, and started thinking about shooting a bit faster. Then I checked the rules page on the IDPA site and saw the times for the abbreviated classifier. Curious...
  2. I'll tell you what, I found it once on the counter top (black granite) I was working on. The second time I looked everywhere. I checked the floor, flashlight across the floor, felt every square inch that seemed remotely possible it could have reached. I looked down the front of my clothing, inside the pistol, under the dog bowls. I ordered another one from Brownells, grateful that they had one for sale. I always kind of laughed at the idea that I'd lose the detents or springs while building an AR (I never did) but this was a loss of brainer..I need better small parts discipline for this kind of stuff. So I guess any feedback will have to wait until I get the uh, details straightened out.
  3. Well, I decided to put the Apex competition action enhancement kit in my M&P 9 pro. The instructions are pretty straightforward, just find the correct YouTube vid and go! I was enjoying the learning part of pulling parts off, figuring out what they do, and hoping it functions when I'm done. There was a warning to not lose the takedown lever retaining spring, but I did. So now I'm waiting for a Brownell's order... So. Maybe next week I can finish my little project. That damn thing is so tiny!
  4. Duluth Trading company has long tailed t shirts, long and short sleeve. That should help you out.
  5. CCP Box dimensions are 7 3/4 x 5 3/8 x 1 3/8. If your pistol is 5.5" high it probably wont fit the box.
  6. I have a new SP-01 at CGW for Pro Package, sights and whatever they can convince me I'd like. The 10x bushing might just have to be added to my list!
  7. First was front sight focus. Then was follow through, maintaining (trying to) that sight picture throughout the trigger pull and recoil impulse. Now it's using the support hand to stabilize a lightweight pistol, getting that left hand in on the grip as well.
  8. I'll have to check out an Eotech sometime. I'm having a hard time imagining the difference between a red dot and the holographic projection. I think that the red dot, a scopes reticle, and probably the Eotech image, are all in the same focal plane as the target. But I'd love to learn something new here.
  9. I have the Shooter's Connection bag and it's very well made. Everything has a place and if I'm not careful, I'll overload it with stuff I really don't need to carry. It's BIG. I bought a GPS range backpack for my wife (she insisted) and I like that one also. If I had tried that one first I might have bought it for myself. But no buyers remorse with the Shooters Connection bag, I just have to be smart and leave the main bag in the truck like MJinPA does.
  10. I think astigmatism is the real issue most of us have seeing a red dot clearly. My red dot is a bit oblong in my Aimpoint PRO and Trijicon MRO. And without correction, my best attempt at focus on the front sight is not really so much fuzzy as it is two front sights to choose from. If I could just consistently choose the right one I'd be moving in the right direction!
  11. Typically the rear focus ring is to allow the shooter to sharpen his view of the reticle. Your eyesight is what it is, corrected or not, and without a parallax adjustment, your view of the target will be a function of your eyesight. If there are any real problems with focus, I'd take it up with Vortex. Let them show you some of their good customer service.
  12. Did a quick search. External battery packs seem to be discontinued at most of the sites that came up. You might want to replace the internal battery for about 16 bucks. A new battery should hold a charge longer I hope. Good luck!
  13. They group better, except for the one that gets stuck!
  14. I suppose it was kind of a rhetorical question, Federal, Winchester, Fiocchi, etc. are all manufacturers. But what about those who claim new manufacture? I have shot several thousand FM in 124 and 147 grain bullets, all new. Only issues have been with the 124 grain, and only about 5 in 3k. But I still don't like that. So just wondering if my experience is typical. Same fault as the OP's. Underpowered ammo with an incompatible nose profile, or loaded too short? Anyway, I'll work my way through it.
  15. I noticed that the fiber I just installed seemed quite a bit dimmer than the new fiber that had not been heated to fit the sight. Still pretty bright outside.
  16. I have heard reports that some shooters hold Freedom Munitions in low regard. Properly made? Poor QC? Hoping to find out. And exactly what are Factory loads these days?
  17. I've had the same thing happen to me with a M&P 9 Pro and an SP-01. Using FM 124 gr HP. Very few times, but enough to make me question my mags, at first. So my current plan is to shoot all the 124 gr ammo up in practice. Then go to the 147 grain and see if that makes any difference. I'm getting an impressive pile of empty brass, so your reloading guidance is most welcome.
  18. Thanks for the review, this is a pistol I am somewhat interested in. Since I started shooting the M&P 9 Pro in IDPA, I have started thinking about a compact model for concealed carry. This looks like it fits the bill nicely.
  19. Although I knew which mags were new, they're not marked. (Gotta do that) if I have another issue with different ammo I'll pull that mag out. But the gun is new and I have 8 mags, all new.
  20. I guess I need to keep it clean, lubed and well fed. But I sure don't want a stoppage on Saturday. I bought 4 boxes of Winchester NATO 124 gr for the match. A bit snappier than the FM.
  21. Am i mistaken about the source of the failure?
  22. Nose jammed low on the feed ramp. I had just gotten two new mags so i isolated those and replicated the issue with a trusted mag.
  23. This may be just an ammo thing, but I was practicing with my M&P 9 Pro this afternoon and had three failures to feed out of about 150 rounds. Ammo in question is Freedom Munitions 124 gr HP. The rounds had a distinct line across the tip of the bullet, and the bullet appeared to be driven into the case slightly. Any one else experience this? I've had no issues putting the same bullet through my CZ 75b. Needless to say, I'll be buying another couple hundred of some factory round nose for IDPA match this Saturday. Thanks, Mike.
  24. Thanks Jim. I had read someone's post that they liked using the paddle for the holster (IDPA) and belt loops for mag carriers. I'm doing the opposite of course. The double mag carrier brackets the belt loop nicely and doesn't move too much. Learning by experience, Mike.
