  1. With no experience whatsoever, I bought Comp-Tac International holsters for my M&P and CZ75b. They came with both the belt loop attachment and a paddle. So far, I have found the belt loop style to locate the gun much better on my hip, but wonder what others experiences are? The paddle seems like a quicker and easier way to attach the holster, but slides around a bit much. I'm using a Wilderness 5-stitch belt if that makes any difference. I'm just trying to see if I'm doing anything wrong, I can be kind of oblivious to certain things! Thanks, Mike.
  2. Ok, I've been shooting FM for a couple weeks and hope I don't get caught with a low pf. So far after a couple thousand rounds no issues.
  3. I shot the CZ 75b in my first two IDPA outings. The reset on that pistol is very long, but the SA trigger pull is smooth. The M&P has a much shorter reset, and of course has the same trigger pull every time, and it's not too bad really. I really have a lot to learn about this game, so my expectations are to slowly and safely improve. But I love to tinker a bit!
  4. OK. Bigger hammer did the trick. I used and abused a brass punch that was a little larger than I thought to try using earlier. Hit on it from the round end so the hex flat laid on the slide and squarely impacted the base of the sight at the dovetail. Once I committed to heavy hitting, it went pretty easily. Thanks for the info. Mike.
  5. If I can't get the rear sight off without mutilating it, I may just send that USB part back to Apex. I like the rear sight that comes on the Pro model and don't want to damage it. I imagine many people are replacing the rear sight along with installing the USB. I'm going to give it some more focused pounding and see how it goes. Update- bigger hammer and a new determination made the difference. Apex USB is now installed in the 9 pro. Pre-travel grit is gone. Reset may be a bit more distinct. Unsure if I'd do it again. But it's a little bit nicer.
  6. Doesn't exactly fill me with confidence! My home 'gunsmithing' skills are pretty limited.
  7. I'm just trying to get them off to install an Apex USB. Never wanted to trash the stock sight. I guess I'll keep trying, a little harder at a time...
  8. I'm trying now to remove the rear sight, using a padded vise and a brass punch. So far I'm deforming the tip of the punch and not moving the sight anywhere. Do I just need to use more effort? The sight looks fine, just a little brass color on it. I tape up the tip after every attempt...
  9. I remember a service rifle competitor showing off a cart he had built from "scrap" material. Turns out he was a welder at a chemical plant, his cart was made of titanium tubing, very well rendered. That cart above also looks like a race car fabricator had a couple hours of idle time...
  10. I just ordered the USB kit. I'll update once I get it installed and have some time with it.
  11. You know, I bought the pistol for IDPA...I may as well trick it out. Thanks for the feedback. Don't think it's any magic ticket to better scoring, but it should be more fun to shoot, and with practice, should help my scores.
  12. As a beginning IDPA shooter, should I limit my search to IDPA coaches? or USPSA as well. It seems that the skills are probably transferrable...
  13. I want to stay IDPA SSP legal, new trigger is out for me. If I wanted to play in ESP I could probably do it. But they have an action enhancement kit I'm wondering about. About 92 bucks for the parts. If any of you have experience shooting or installing this kit, I'd love to hear about it.
  14. Let's just say I'm really enjoying myself. My targets were generally better, and I continue to learn what to do and not to do! And I'm looking for matches around my area instead of just at my home range.
  15. I bought the M&P 9 pro to play with in IDPA SSP. The take-up is gritty, the actual pull weight and reset seem ok to me. What is the fix? I don't want any reliability issues. I've looked at the Apex site and they seem to be the company to go with. Don't really believe it will improve my scores, but a sweet trigger pull is very satisfying.
  16. As long as the case mouth is not split you're probably ok. When I started reloading I worried about excessive crimp on revolver rounds... I got over it.
  17. Wearing one corrective lens over the right eye turned out to be pretty natural feeling. It definitely helps me see the front sight as one clear image. It does not help so much with decision making and trigger pull. But that's the next thing to focus on.
  18. OK, so the new specs are very interesting, very good view of the front sight. Having one lens correction and one uncorrected becomes natural-ish in time...It's not quite seamless but pretty easy to get used to. Of course I may sing a different song after my match tomorrow. I'm glad I bought them. Now if I could just do something about the jerk behind the trigger!
  19. Although I usually read with a 1.25 correction, I had to choose between the 1.0 or 1.25 at that distance. I was standing at the rack in Walgreens switching back and forth, trying to read fine print. I had already "measured" the distance to my front sight being the same as my fully extended arm with shoulders square. I chose the 1.0 because I felt my regular correction was just a bit too much at that distance. Now that I have it to try at home, holding the pistol out in front of me, it seems I chose correctly. The only issue I'm concerned with is the oddness of having different lenses in front of my eyes, and how long it will take to get used to that. Rather than a blur, my uncorrected view of the front sight seemed to be a double image, sort of an astigmatism issue I suppose, but the lens helps take that away.
  20. The SSP Top focal glasses arrived today. I assembled them with correction in dominant eye only. I have to say I'm impressed so far. The correction is high enough that its not in the way but my natural motion to slightly lower my eyes on the sights puts it perfectly in service. I'll shoot with them tomorrow to see what it's like, but I'm encouraged by what i see so far.
  21. I'm not getting any blackening, just maybe a little frosting...I'm tempted to try to polish it but I just might try a few more times to see if I can get different results. I suppose the least amount of heat necessary to "bulb" the end is what I'm looking for. Probably a minor difference.
  22. I ordered the SSP top vision combo kit that should let me have correction in the right eye only. I'm looking forward to seeing that front sight at the range. I'll repost here when I've had a chance to try them out.
  23. I got my replacement rods and put in a green one. It seems like the brightness or intensity of the light is reduced once installed. Is that normal or am I overheating the fiber? It's still quite visible outdoors but compared to the loose fiber optic rod it seems dim. Thanks, Mike.

    CGW Pro Package

I know I'd like to send my 75b to their shop and let them install the Pro package, despite my decidedly amateurish shooting... But I'm wondering how far they can go and stay SSP legal for IDPA. My questions center around the trigger, hammer and reach reduction kit. I assume the reach reduction is a no-go, unless I want to go to ESP. But the trigger and hammer issue confuses me. Are the typical hammer and trigger used for this package found on other factory CZ's and therefore legal?
  25. With my very limited time with the pistol, I really like green outdoors. I'm going to get an assortment, so I'll get plenty of chances to try different colors.
