  1. 500-rounds in 2-day match???? Mmmmmm Is that a promise Birthday Boy Roy?
  2. Has anyone tried CFE behind MGB 115 hallow point yet?
  3. Bill, What type of bbl and length are you usingni. Your blaster? I want to try 115 grns and CFE in my gun. Thanks in advance
  4. I am just curious here, what is the OAL of your loaded 9-major round?
  5. Some 9mm are not the regular 9 x 19 some of them are shorter - 9 x 18. They are what you call the 9 Makarov and a few manufacturer marks the head stamp with 9mm "M" on it. The makarov are shorter than the regular 9 x 19 parabelum
  6. We were in the same squad. He did 172 PF
  7. Well, I was kinda leary about my test results using 6.5 grns as I stated in the earlier post. However, after seeing my buddy loaded his rounds using 7.5 grains without a problem, I am kinda feel "safer" now with 6.5 grains for my load. He actually used CFE Pistol powder at the Buckeye Blast 2-weeks ago using 7.5 grns
  8. I shot at the Buckeye Blast last week and my load clocked at 170PF out of schuemann bbl. using 7.2-grns of VV N350 behind 125 grns zero JHP-C
  9. Looking forward to this match. We will drive back to Michigan after the Ohio Match and hope to get a good rest for this Sunday classifier match. Then head back to Toronto for a 5-hour drive once we are done at Wayne County racoon HunterS. Thats our plan. See you guys on Sunday!
  10. Let's try it one more time Let me contribute my chrono readings to this thread. Here's my chrono results: 5.5" schuemann ultimatch bbl Loaded for 9-Major with OAL = 1.149-1.150" CCI SR Primer Bullet = 125-grns ZERO JHP-C RP once fired brass Powder charge were individually weighed & OAL individually measured for consistency. 6.5-grains powder charge: 1328 pfs = 166.00 PF 1351 pfs = 168.88 PF 1349 pfs = 168.63 PF 1330 pfs = 166.25 PF 1327 pfs = 165.63 PF 6.6-grains powder charge: 1350 pfs = 168.75 PF 1344 pfs = 168.00 PF 1349 pfs = 168.63 PF 1353 pfs = 169.13 PF 1351 pfs = 168.87 PF Observation: CFE Pistol powder has a very good potential for open loads (in my case - 9-major). There were considerable flattening on all of the CCI small rifle primers from the spent brass using the data below, but NO cratering. However, there were very slight bulging of the brass from the rounds that were tested. I've never had these slight bulging of brass from the 170-172 PF using VVN350, VV3N37, AUTOComp & HS6. Please be advised that I have not tested this load for accuracy and grouping yet. All I really wanted to find out is how this powder will meter through my chrono. DISCLAIMER: The load data provided is for INFORMATION ONLY and has only been tested in my own open guns. Use it at your own risk and please reload with extreme caution. This are my chrono reading. The PF is calculated every shot fired.
  11. I use 8-grns of HS6 behind 125-Zero JHP-C OAL 1.165" in my STI Matchmaster (4.25" bbl) with T2 comp and I am at the 169-170 PF. As what Wide45 and Grumpuone said..... Good luck and stay safe.
  12. Roy, we were just talking about this match last night after our club practice. I hope the weather cooperates this coming Sunday..... BUT rain or shine the ON Pinoys are coming
  13. You mean when you cleaned your gun. You did not even clean your barrel, that's why you didn't know there was a bullet stuck in the chamber????? :) ROFL!!!!
  14. I have 2K of Montana Gold 115 grains-HP lying in my basement for a few years now. Can anyone share their 9-major load for open gun using 115-grns Montana Gold HP? I am looking for load using VV N350 (if it would fit the 9x19 brass) or VV 3N37. The open gun is a custom built STI slide and frame, 5.5 Shuemann ultimatch bull bbl, 1:16 twist (NO popple holes) chambered for 9-major and Bedell Custom 7 Port Progressive Compensator (Stainless Steel). Thank you in advance for your input.
  15. With barely 2-weeks to go, I am just wondering when will the official Match Invitation for Canadian competitors will be sent out.
  16. THANK you Roy and crew for putting up this great match. WHAT a match!!!!! I met a bunch of really nice people and had a blast during the match and enjoyed shooting with squad 8. The Ontario Pinoys are hooked!! We will be back!!!!!
  17. I run both 38 SC and TJ in my Bedell Open with no problem.
  18. I see no problem using magnum primers in my open guns. Magnum primers are designed to ignite magnum loads, which means more powder than regular rounds and similar to open loads. Though you can use them in minor or regular rounds, it would be an overkill since you dont need a magnum primer ignition to burn the powder in those rounds. I always use them in my open loads with no issues.
  19. I use exactly the same gun and load with no problem. I always use FCD in all my reloads tho
  20. What bullets are you using with these loads? AZ, This loads run behind 125 grains zero JHP-C.
  21. There are 2-types of Frontier .355-124 grains bullets; the regular .355, which has a thinner copper plate and the .355-124 grains MATCH, which has the thicker copper plating. I have used both in my open guns. I find that the lead of the regular .355 is very soft that no matter how much crimp I apply to it when reloading, there will always be a bullet setback upon battery in the chamber. While it can handle the 1320 FPS-plus velocity of an open round, I dont recommend this type in an open gun because of the above reason. After reading the review of the Frontier .355 match bullets from the Frontsight Magazine. We decided to have a group buy and I purchased 5k of .355-124 grns MATCH to try (for practice purposes) I was actually surprised to see the big difference in hardness of the MATCH bullet from the regular .355. After loading a few round with this bullet heads, I did my bullet setback test of the Frontier match bullet by pushing a loaded round against the table - I am happy to say there was no bullet setback. I made a few dummy rounds and ran it through my open guns by cycling the bullet, simulating the actual slamming of the slide when firing a loaded round - NO bullet setback. In my opinion, the Frontier match bullet is way better in hardness compared to the regular ones. While both Frontier regular and match bullets are very accurate (in my open guns), I will never look back in using the regular Frontier .355-124 bullets. My advise, stick to MATCH type Frontier .355-124 grns for open gun. This is my 2-cents worth of opinion.
  22. For my 9-major Match Master I had my recoil spring replaced with ISMI 8-lbs spring. My Match master comes with the T2 Comp though NOT T1 and I have to add another small hole on both side of the comp right behind the last side port. I use the following in my Match Master. HS-6 8.0 grns ,OAL = 1.170 and the PF is 168-169. N350 7.3 Grns, OAL = 1.170, PF is 168-169 AutoComp 7.2 Grns, OAL = 1.170, PF is 168-170
  23. It sounds like there is too much crimp in your bullet. Over crimping your bullets will cause the bullet to keyhole. Plated bullets will cause this behavior too due to the velocity of hot loads for open guns. Tell us more. What type of bullet head you are using (FMJ, HP etc.)
