  1. Thanks for reporting your experience with dry firing with and without a snap cap, cyclone. Makes me feel a little less negligent. I have heard comments that the newer strikers are improved, but I haven't any faith that it true. Perhaps Kenny at SSS is working on something??? If someone does come out with a claimed stroger striker, I'll try one for sure.

I kind of hate this thread, or really the problem discussed in it. Perhaps it isn't a vital issue witg anyone anymore, but I thought I would just add that Speed Shooter's tooled steel extractor plus extra strength extractor spring has 100% fixed the extraction problems I was having. No FTEs after several thousand rounds of nasty range brass. Thanks Kenny. Now die thread!
  4. I have replaced two stikers on my Pro, but it has quite a few more than 2000 rounds. I don't keep records but I would say 15,000 rounds or so total for the two that failed. I don't use snap caps to dryfire and I know it will bite me in a match someday. I just keep a spare around that I can change over before a major match. A more serious competitor would use snap caps. Love the Pro...
  5. Talk to your doctor. I'm right handed, left eye dominant. I've had lasik. Eyes are corrected left (dominant) for distance, right for reading. It's less than perfect, but very functional. I have shot using my right eye for the sights and that works. Now for shooting I wear prescription glasses that correct the right eye for distance and the left eye for the distance of my front sight. I mount the gun in front of my left eye. The brain figures it out. It's (the switch) actually pretty comfortable for me.
  6. Dan, Thanks for your comments. I don't think I'll be trying that myself. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something easy to do and it sounds like it sure isn't. There have been a lot of comments posted here and in the M&P form on FTEs. So it's good to hear from someone with your depth of knowledge and experience on the M&P platform. FTEs have been reduced in my M&P by polishing the chamber, cleaning around the extractor anytime it occurs to me to do so, and by sorting brass for any dings on the rims. My FTEs seem to be down to around one per 660 rounds. I like the non captured full length guide rod I'm using, so I think I'll change springs to match the factory recoil spring from the 13# spring I have been using and let the brass fall where it may. Factory RC is 15#, correct? I am using a little more than minimum pf loads (124g over 4.1 Titegroup). I was planning to try a slower powder on the theory that the gun will stay locked slightly longer. Does this make sense? Thanks again.
  7. Dan How is the early unlocking of the gun controlled or modified. Is there another way other than the recoil spring? My chamber has been polished. Extractor hook angle remains stock. I do use a 13# spring, but would change that for more reliability. Thanks for any thoughts you have on this topic. I have been hearing it with all 9's just seems to be worse with the PROs. I posted this in the M&P forum my theory's but I can post it again here:
  8. Cha-Lee - It was great watching that video of you on Stage 1, almost as smokin' as watching it live. You were self critical in your post, but you shot that stage with impressive confidence. It was a lesson for me.

I have experienced perhaps three FTEs over the first 1200 rounds with a factory recoil spring with my Pro. As posted earlier, I experienced five FTEs during a total of ten stages since going to a 13# recoil spring. Since polishing the chamber, I shot a four stage match and experienced one FTE. A local gunsmith, commented that he thought the extractor seemed to have adequate tension. He also explained to me that after detonation, the cartridge expands to seal the chamber and then contracts. He suggested the barrel could be unlocking before the case contracts, causing the ejector claw to pull over the rim and leaving the case still in the chamber. I understand that the recoil spring affects the timing of the unlocking of the barrel. If this is correct, would a stronger recoil spring tend to delay the unlocking of the barrel, and thus increase certainty of ejection? What other factors affect the unlocking of the barrel? Barrel fit? Thanks for any comments. I really like the M&P Pro. I really would like to get it 100%.

So, can one check for the oversized chamber by chamber checking every round with the barrel? eta: like a chamber gauge
  11. I think there could be a concern about the gun unlocking prematurely enabling a FTE. I would think that way because I am having FTE, but I sure would try it and see. Or, I would encourage you to try it and see how you do.

Hanexp, I'm shooting the exact same Titegroup load with 124 gr. Berry's RN WITH a 13# recoil spring and I have had 0 problems in over 1000 rounds and several matches. How many rounds do you have through your Pro? Is it broken in? I have about 1500 rounds through my Pro. Interesting that I have been having a high percentage of my 9mm reloads not going into the size checking die all the way. The problem is that the case rim won't go in due to dings in the rim. The rejects aren't due to the bottom of the case being bulged. It is because of a high number of case with damage to the rim. Does this sound like an extractor problem? As I look at the extractor it looks to my very untrained eye exactly as it should. I'm wondering if the extractor tension could be the issue? Any thoughts? I will polish the chamber and up my charge a little.

I would have hoped so. Since adding a non-captured guide rod (tungsten) and a 13# recoil spring I have had four FTEs over maybe 350 rounds (some practice and a match, yikes) with my mouse fart loads. 124g RN plated over 4.0 titegroup. I'll up my charge a little and continue to watch this thread for insight. The Pro is a good gun to shoot production so I hope this gets resolved.
  14. Cy, Another option is you could order the sights and ask someone local to install. Our Steve M. is now working on M&Ps.
  15. appreciate your posts on reload data. very helpful to this M&P Pro user

  16. There was a USPSA match with five stages at The Boulder Rifle Club today. Decent weather for January. Challenging courses of fire. Good fun! You'll probably be able to get used to Boulder...
  17. I have shot my P226 in production, though I've been shooting mostly SS recently. I think the 226 Elite is Sig's attempt to address the rather long reset in stock Sig pistols. It's certainly a decent choice for USPSA production if the DA/SA platform works for the shooter. Roger Sherman and Husky Sig are two Sig shooters whose opinions I would value. They do really well with them. eerw, if you have the interest you would be welcome to try my Bruce Gray P226 anytime.
  18. I think you can get alternative front sights for the M&P at Speed Shooter Special Specialties, a forum dealer. They list a custom option.
  19. +1 for Blade Tech. When I received my BT holster for my Pro, I was slightly disturbed by the height of the stock sight channel. Seemed like you would have to have a pretty large front sight to come close to needing that big a channel. The large sight channel design meant quite a bit of excess material around the speed cut. I discussed with the production manager at BT and they sent me a new holster made with a smaller, but plenty big for a .180" f.s., sight channel and less excess material around the speed cut. It is perfect! Nothing wrong with the original they sent, really. Just an aesthetic consideration I guess, but I am satisfied with the one I have and impressed with BT service.
  20. Recently handled a Gold Cup with a pair of Alumagrips and the carry magwell. The gun is owned by a member here (Redmanfixit). I shoot a SS with a Wilson Speed Chute so that is what I was comparing it with. I did not actually seat a mag, so perhaps my experience isnt really helpful, but from what I saw I would expect the Carry magwell to accomodate magazine bumpers much the way my Speed Chute does. I can attest to the elegance of the Alumagrip solution and I really liked the texture of the alumagrips. I am seriously considering getting a pair of grips and both a carry magwell and one of the big wells. OTH, I may just practice my reloads more with my current gear...
