  1. Why must we choose? Buy both and shoot whatever you feel like shooting on any given day.
  2. Okay, Now I'm seriously considering the founding of the Snobbish Limited Only Blasters club. (SLOB's) There are plenty of snobs (and slobs) in the limited division and we deserve our club as well. We may not have a goddess but we have big sticks AND iron sights. It's the best of both worlds baby! Some of us even have a 6 inch! We also have our own little brother division. Top that. SLOBS unite!
  3. Hmmm. I think you need to write new bylaws. Suppose a 1911 elitist snob banana shows up with a single stack that's not legal. If he gets bumped into open, will he become a 1911 elitist snob / SOB by default? Will he still be allowed to dance?
  4. Hell, if dry firing counts, I'm in the "Men Who Have Dated A Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Club." Hey, what are you doing here? Get back to the wheel gun forum where you belong.
  5. Zhunter, I can meet all qualifications except having shot a SS match in '07 However, I have serious intent to do so in the immediate future. Does dry firing count? I am wondering if I could get a probationary membership. What I lack in shooting history I can make up in elitist snobbery. I may even get a JMB tatoo. 38Superman 45Superman
  6. Yea Roger. I only posted the application two hours ago. How many shooters have sent the form in so far? MHearn Silly me, I assumed it had been up longer since the match is only six weeks or so away. I guess I should have read the whole thread. Keep me on my toes Mark. Allow me to re-phrase the question. How many shooters are you expecting? I am just curious as to the number and size of the squads. It's been 2 years since I shot Alabama but if I remember correctly, there were 7-8 on a squad and it seemed to move pretty well. Always a fun match.
  7. Roger, Just out of curiosity, how many shooters do you have so far? Tony
  8. Okay Zman, I'll be impressed when you mount a C-More and win open division with it.
  9. I for one am disappointed. I would have liked to see Favre beat the undefeated Pats in the Super Bowl. What a way for him to end a great career and go out in style. Oh well. No glory for those that can't manage a first down in the fourth quarter. Manning and the Giants played well enough to win and maybe it's time for little brother to get his day in the sun.
  10. Focusing too much on the test is a mistake. Focus more on the vile disease you are trying to prevent. I would drink a swimming pool full of that stuff if it would cure me. "And that's all I have to say about that" - Forrest Gump
  11. Chris, I've never had a colonoscopy, but it brings up an interesting question. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last August. During my workup I was poked, prodded and violated so much, I felt like I had been kidnapped by aliens. With a CT scan, bone scan, PET scan, and a pelvic MRI in my medical resume, wouldn't any cancer in the colon have shown up in one of those tests? Do I really need to be scoped? I am now 33 treatments into a 45 treatment course of radiotherpy (IMRT) Some rectal irritation comes along with prostate radiation. Would that make the colonoscopy more difficult? I suppose it's something I would want to do in the future as secondary cancers are a (small) risk in radiotherapy. Tony
  12. Sweet! Did I read that right? You had Tripp hard chrome the frame and Ion Bond on the slide?
  13. The more I think about it the more I am drawn to the idea of an SVI. I would probably go with something similar to the one pictured in my previous post. I would be worried about the squared trigger guard though. I think most standard 1911's have a round trigger guard and I'm wondering how difficult it might be to find a holster that would work with it. I did correspond with SVI briefly about building what I want. I guess I will have to revise my thinking. Money is definately an object. My open gun didn't cost that much. Tls
  14. Just ride your motorcycle to the match. It'll feel warm when you get off it. I know that you northern guys are acclimated to the cold, but that just seems insane. When the temps get down into single digits, its just way too cold to do anything outside. The coldest match I've shot was in the low 20's and that is about my limit. Tls
  15. I just came across this baby in another thread. This could be the one. SVI 4ever.
  16. I am just in shock. How can one family have so much tragedy in such a short time?
  17. Now that's what I'm talking about. Awesome.
  18. Wow,... that's harsh. I am not a gun smith and don't have the skills to build a top notch race gun. I'm just interested in the informed opinion of others as to what their dream gun would be and who would build it. I thought this thread could be a lot of fun, but I've been wrong before.
  19. Now that the BOD has "made an honest woman" of the Single Stack division, I'm thinking of playing some in that arena. I can't help but think that I would be better off spending my limited time and resources trying to master the guns I already shoot. However, watching my single stack gather dust for another year may be more than my conscience can bear. I acutally own 2 skinny guns, but only one of them is close to being race ready. It needs to go to the smith for a couple of new goodies and a tune up first. Looking over my Springer got me thinking about what I would like to compete with if money were no object. If you wanted to get serious in this division, what would you want in your holster? There are a lot of options. You could: Buy a production gun and have it pasteurized and homoginized by your favorite smith ...... Been there done that. Have a gun built from scratch by one of the well known smiths ....... Tempting but who would you choose? Buy a gun prebuilt or custom from someone like Wilson Combat or SVI ....... Hard to go wrong with this option. Have a gun built in the custom shop of a major manufacturer like S&W or Springfield Armory ... I like that idea. I'm talking about a gun that you would want your name engraved on. A gun that could take you to the top if you do your part. A gun that would stay in your family for generations. A gun that feels like its on ball bearings when you pull the slide back. A gun that stacks bullets in the same hole time after time no matter what ammo you stick in it. A gun that just keeps going like the energizer bunny. I'm talking about a gun so beautiful that it reminds me of the first time I saw my wife. Let the Quest begin. Tls
  20. I own several guns that I am fond of but wouldn't hold on to if they became redundant. I would prefer to recycle them into guns that I would shoot. The only "must keep" gun in my collection is a Series 80 Colt Stainless in 45 ACP. It was left to me by my brother-in-law who died of lung disease two years ago. I was with him when he bought it and we took it to the range to try it out. He emptied a magazine at some bowling pins and after missing all of them, he said "I think the sights are off". I said "Let me try", and cleaned them. When I handed the gun back to him he grinned and said "I guess it's not the sights". That was the only time and the last time it was ever fired. I have very mixed emotions about the gun because I never fire it, but could never part with it. It seems a shame to let it just sit there until it gets passed to another owner upon my own demise. It's a bone stock gun and I'm seriously considering having it tricked out by a gunsmith and working it into a mission to win a single stack title. I think that would be a fitting tribute to the man that left it to me. Keep your guns Carina. I've never felt bad about keeping a gun, but I've sure had a lot of regrets over the ones that got away. Tony
  21. Is it "Ride of the Valkyries" or "Flight of the Valkyries" I have seen it written both ways.
  22. This sounds like a really good time and I wish there were someway I could attend. I know I still own one or two single stacks. I'm just not sure I could find them. I think I gave one of them to the kids to play with back in '04 I wonder if it still works. They must be around here somewhere...... Tony
  23. Now that single stack has become official I'm wondering about the legality of various modifications. The general rule of thumb in production has always been that any part that is offered on a production gun as a factory option is legal if you add it. I wonder if this reasoning will carry over to Single Stack? Specifically, I'm interested in mag wells (such as the SVI 1911) custom hammer or trigger, fiber optic sights, and ambi safety. The provisional rules did allow for mag wells and fiber optics. However, there seems to be no mention of these one way or another in the new rule book. Am I missing something? Enlighten me. Tony
  24. I'd be willing to talk about it. I shoot a Brazos Pro SX and I have all the dies etc. necessary to load 38 Super. Send me a pm. Tony
