  1. I am 54 years old and love to shoot Open. Last year, I picked up a limited gun and wanted to give it one more chance before I hit retirement or Social Security. I had to have a pair of glasses made to see the front sight clearly which made a great improvement. I am also left eye dominate and right handed, which poses another set of OPPOTUNITIES for a limited shooter. But no excuses, I just went out with a few freinds and practiced. I shoot Limited as well as Open now.... that is not saying much. How long will I shoot limited? Good question....I would like to win something at a major match in my class, then maybe switch back to open. If you are young and have good eyes, Limited is great fun. Learning the timing of the sights is the key to using iron sights. Jerry
  2. This is an easy question for you'all.... I am jumping into production for the winter time. I have a new M&P 9pro. My load will be 3.3 grains of VV N320 under a Zero 147 gr JHP loaded out to 1.130ish What recoil spring brand/weight works well with this load. Thanks Jerry Snyder
  3. At first, the cost of an open gun, whether it be 2K, 3K or more , may seem a bit high. But over the course of a couple of years, the cost is ammortized. Over the many years that you will hopefully be shooting, the ammo components will cost more than the gun itself. If you buy a quality open gun, you usually only cry once about the cost. If you buy an unknown quantity, you may have to have the gun reworked for timing issues, feeding issues, or an assortment of "What the heck is wrong with it now issues". If I were you and were in the market for another open gun, and I always am...., You might call a couple of the gunsmiths you have confindence in and let them know you are looking for a gun that runs 100% of the time and has a known history. There are lots of us who upgrade to a newer gun several times in our shooting lives. The amount you spend on an open gun, or any gun for that matter, might depend on several things including: costs of parts, labor time spemt at the mill or at the bench getting the correct lightening cuts that the customer drew out on a piece of napkin, and maybe most of all, the Gunsmith's reputation. In the custom gun game, there are a lot of pretenders out there making guns, I personally would stick with a relative small group of known gunsmiths that will stand behind their work. Here in Texas, we have several gunsmiths that make great guns, we are truly blessed.... Jerry Snyder
  4. With most 1911's, you have the option of shooting single stack, or add a few 10 rounds mags and shoot L-10. You would disadvantaged to shoot limited. This gives you another card to shoot for with the same gun and ammo. I would recommend a 5 inch 1911, lots of parts available to upgrade if you desired to do so. Jerry
  5. Some clubs wait and combine matches on one check. I shot one club that only sent in info quarterly. JS
  6. I use the same set up for Open and limited. If you only plan on shooting Limited, a Blade Tech might be a good choice. They have a new model called "ICE" which is already cut down. JS
  7. I use a Dillon 45 acp 100 round ammo box. I dump more than enough to fill each slot, shake the balance off. When all 100 slots are filled, you can tip the ammo box at an angle and see that the shorter 380's will be lower than the 9mm. Takes about 60 seconds to sort out each 100. I do this when I sort out my 9mm brass after it goes through the tumbler. JS
  8. Welcome.....San Antonio here,also shoots IPSC. JS
  9. Thanks for a great match. Thanks to the RO's and staff. Thanks to my squad mates on Squad #16. Jerry Snyder
  10. Brian, I got the book, thanks once again. JS
  11. "BE" in the moment. Let no one thing go un-noticed. All things belong where they are for a purpose. Examine everything as if it is the last time you will see it. Be at peace with who you are. You have a purpose - find it. Jerry
  12. Just one word for that kind of repair/work = McGruber JS I shot Ron's Competitor yesterday and it does run flat, but it is loud. I told him to just put some tape on top of the popple holes to reduce noise.... JS I was just givin' Ron crap about his previous posts on the subject... Bring it Well I'm waiting on word back about emergency popple hole installation, but if not I've got a backup plan. It involves rubber bands, crazy glue a strand of 10 gauge copper wire and a car remote door opener
  13. A big thanks to all who assisted in running this match. Thank you to those who gave up their personal time so I could come out and play. Sometimes the ones who are appreciated the least, are the ones we need to appreciate the most. Thanks once again to all who worked Area 4. Jerry Snyder
  14. I did the same thing that G-Man Bart did, but since my fork end was broken off, the repair did not hold. Instead, I turned the arm over and drilled out a hole and set in a Dillon 650 spring from my spare parts kit. I reinstalled the parts and closed it up. The holster now secures the gun and holds it tight. Tention can be adjusted by snipping off a coil at a time and reinstalling. Like I said, this is an emergency repair until you get a replacement. I think the design could be improved, I will let you know if I come up with something else. JS
  15. I have been communicating with G-ManBart and followed his suggestion. I am wrapping the broken parts in a cocoon of JB Weld, letting it sit overnight, then shaping in the morning. I will snap a few pics and let you know how it turns out. Should add bulk to the thinning area. The key will making sure the retaining pin floats through the lever. You guys might look at the same part, it might be a reoccuring problem. I will be contacting Giga Ribas and obtaining a few extra of these parts. Jerry
  16. I took mine apart because it was not holding the gun at all. This is what I found. Where do I get a replacement? Is there one in the USA I can order? Naturally, I am suppose to shoot area 4 next weekend = 6 days from this post...... Super glue did not work. Thanks Jerry Snyder
