I have broken two Romeo 3 XLs on my Czechmates. First one was around 5k rounds in and vertical zero would start to shift within 50 rounds of zeroing, second was around 2.5k rounds and the horizontal adjustment mechanism broke/detached and I literally could not zero it (this was confirmed by Sig). They had new ones back to me within a week both times. I love the optic itself but if either of these replacements break I’ll be switching.

Give the FTP Alpha 3 a try if you do end up switching.

  2. I have had both the Max and XL on open guns. The Max would be the one most would prefer if coming from an RTS2. There is a video discussion somewhere that Max uses to explain how the round shape is most natural to the eye, etc. I do like the Max but have found that depending on the load and gun the dot may stay in the glass 100% with the XL more than the Max. The little bit of extra width is nice. Most of my guns (CO and Open) have the 8 MOA FTP Alpha 3 on them and I would say it is more like the XL.

If this gun does come out.
Is it viable for uspsa limited ?

15rd stock .40 mags… so with a 141mm extension what kinda of round count is that ?
I guess it takes the stock cz magwell setup?  So that means blending the hell out of it.
    im just speculating.

Stuart told me 20-21 with the 15 rounders and CZC extensions.

Just curious: have you ever tried not cleaning your gun between a few matches or practice sessions?  I ask because, like you, I've been cleaning my gun after every match ever since I got it.  However, I'm running an experiment right now to see how long it can go between cleanings before problems start to crop up.  I didn't clean it after a two day class, as well as a range practice session afterward, so right now it's sitting at about 1k rounds since the last cleaning.

I have ran open guns well over 1,500 rounds with no cleaning. Just add oil and go. They always ran if mags were clean and ammo was correct. Before ammo was scarce a normal practice session was 750-800 rounds. Depending on powder they can get pretty nasty.

LOL.  I clean mine after every match.  I guess that makes me super serious.

Haha. Me too. I enjoy the cleaning and it’s easy as there isn’t much build up when done often.

  6. If you do your part and keep them maintained they run just like any other reliable platform. I’ve never had issues with 9mm open guns that weren’t caused by me, ammo, parts breaking, or poor maintenance. This would be the same for any gun.

you just have to make sure your ammo isnt s#!t. after your ammo is squared away your gun will do its job

    100% agree

I'm starting to regret Open Division in general.  I'm a relatively new participant in USPSA this being my 3rd season.  I started shooting Limited minor with an old Sig P226 and quickly fell in love with the sport.  I graduated to an STI DVC Limited within the first 4 months.  The more I traveled to matches the more people I saw shooting Open guns and it looked like awesome fun.  I had to have one.  2021 is my first season shooting Open.  Now I spend an inordinate amount of time tinkering with equipment trying to get it to run consistently.  I'm certainly no gunsmith and my rural, isolated location limits my access to experienced people who might be able to help diagnose and correct my malfunction issues.  YouTube is my only resource LOL.  I'm not ready to give up but, frustration is building.

I have found nearly all my issues have always been ammo related. What is going on? Can we try and help?

Not sure what the CZ discussion has to do with OP's question.  Or 1911-style pistols for that matter.

Ok. Good point. Admin can delete as needed. We can take to PM if @LmtdOnehas any more questions. Onwards and upwards!

It's on the website to check out. They are sourcing .40 barrels but Stuart told me it should happen this year. It is a beauty with hard chrome and all the works.

Nice. I have never seen one in person, only the internet. So as far as USPSA classes, it is a Production gun, correct?

Yes. Production, Carry Optics, Limited Minor, etc. They are also making a .40 Limited Major gun too.

Those seem to be a bit of a rarity. Cool guns though. How do you like yours?

They are amazing. Fit, finish, and accuracy of ANY custom gun I have owned. Very soft shooting too.

Yeah it had a ton of people hyped about it. I am not really sure why they didnt follow through but all we can do now pick which road to take, CZ to the left or 2011 to the right.

I chose CZC A01, so kind of in between as it isn’t a true CZ.

Well that doesnt sound promising. I got a similar response about the DWX when I asked a CZ rep shooting a club match I went to recently. I am pretty sure that thing is dead in the water.

Sadly you are most likely spot on. It was looking like a cool gun too.

It depends on the powder used.  You will lose less with SP2 than say WAC.  More than likely you will have to go up by .2gr to recover the velocity loss caused by two 3/16" poppels.  Poppels WILL make the gun shoot a little flatter at the expense of a harder hit to the hand.  9mm simply does not have the case capacity to allow the gun to be soft and flat at the same time.

Do not listen to people who say use a lighter spring.  That will raise the muzzle even more.  You determine which recoil spring you will use by shooting and observing.  I use 25 yards, only because that is convenient at one of the club I shoot at.  Aim at a small target in the berm, fire, then snap off the second shot just as you would in a double tap.  Where did the second shot go?  If high, you need a heavier spring.  It may take several tries to find the correct weight.  If low, you MAY need a lighter spring.  There are other things that force the second shot low.  Dumping the trigger is one.  Too much pressure on your new thumb rest is another.  The thumb rest is not there for you to press hard against in an effort to tame muzzle rise.  It is there to locate your thumb, which orients your weak hand grip in the same position every time.  If you do not have either of these problems and the second shot is consistently low, you need a lighter recoil spring.

BTW, if you change the radius on your FPS or change mainspring weights, you have to go through the whole process again.  FWIW, both of my custom Open guns have very tight slide to frame and barrel fit.  Tight as in no wiggle at all.  One has two 3/16" poppels and the other three 5/32" poppels.  I shoot a 115 JHP at 1470fps.  I have an 11 lb. recoil spring in one and a 10 in the other.  The 10 is in a new gun.  I'm probably going to an 11 because the second shot is consistently 2" high at 25 yards.  So don't let anyone tell you you have to run light springs in an Open gun.  If you watch slow motion video you see that most of the muzzle rise is caused by the secondary impulse of the slide bottoming out at the end of the recoil stroke.  You want to minimize that slam, while still ensuring you have enough dwell time for the next round to rise and be stripped by the returning slide.

Good advice. I agree with the heavier recoil spring theory for sure. It works. Haven't messed with mainsprings much yet.
