I don't know about that.  I'm pretty sure I could sell the backup I just built for what it cost me for parts.  It looks (and runs) just like a Brazos custom Open gun.  I suspect you would lose half of the 8k you spent on the stock Atlas Open gun when you try to sell it.

They (Atlas) seem hard to sell even at 5k used

what thats not true they hired a well known porn star to handle marketing :D

if i wasnt a fan of sv before i def am now that they have her on board

Ouch. That hits home as it’s been bothering me for awhile. But I’ll keep this thing on course and stop there.

I'll be honest with you.  I think anyone paying 6k for a stock Limited gun or 8+k for a stock Open gun is just plain nuts.  With people like Warwick Tactical or Brazos custom around making superb short blocks, It makes zero sense to by an expensive stock 2011.

I build my own 1911 and 2011 guns.  When my main 9mm major gun had to go back to the factory for a warranty frame replacement, I had to shoot my custom 1911 Open gun for USPSA.  One match later I said no way.  I ordered a Brazos Custom Open short block, a grip and some parts.  The SB was perfect.  One afternoon later I had all the internals fit.  The gun functioned perfectly right out of the gate.

So for about 4k (paid retail), not counting frame mount and dot, I had a backup gun that is every bit as good as the Atlas Open guns I've handled, and better than most.  All the internals were first rate parts.  Even if you can't fit the internals by yourself, you can buy the SB and parts and have a local gunsmith do it for not much money.

A local buddy is currently building his second Brazos short block kit gun and his first has been flawless. Much wisdom there.

  4. I’m pretty disappointed in the “hyped” up underwhelming video that he did. The new technology in the SV open guns is a night and day difference over their older guns especially a 9mm. To me that’s worthy of some cool marketing which they didn’t even need to do a lot of. If you’re going to have a 2.0 then make it worthy of the name.

When was the last time Atlas sold an open gun?

were there problems with chaos 1.0?

was atlas inundated with service requests to the point where it was no longer cost-effective to sell open guns?

The video said something like the demand is just so high they no longer will do anything custom and they will sell out very very fast. He was wishy-washy on the fact that you can or can’t have different safeties or trigger shoes installed. I’m confused.

I found the destroke idea interesting as I would think it would mean more extraction and ejection issues since you are making the ejection port opening smaller, and giving less time for the process.

And at 8k... I can get a complete second 2011 with all three uppers like the one I have now built. And believe me it has the best parts used throughout. And no it's not a Honcho.

    Agreed on the stroke process.

    ^This.

it is so tiresome to hear about people wanting participation ribbons.  The Tactards with their fleshlights and RMRs on 2011s are going to get smashed in CO or Open minor.  It just doesn't matter.  Just shoot Open

Because 3 gun is Uber-popular and they have no place to shoot their guns in USPSA. Except Open.

Sorry Matt but that Staccatttttto stays home!

Haha. It will stay home. Open is my jam. I do truly believe that if this does happen it’s because someone wants to sell a bunch of guns. Prove me wrong later.

After reading the article I posted above, I'm leaning towards the Scorpion if I go the Volquartsen route. I'm now also kicking around the idea of just building on the Ruger 22/45 platform and creating a Frankenrimfire.

Weigh the costs of each. With the Scorpion it will run 100% with any ammo (that’s my experience). Fit, finish, and quality is amazing. You won’t get that with a Franken build right off the bat.

I am happy to report that after 2 weeks and 1200 rounds, the new Romeo 3 Max dot is perfect, but..... the down button does not work.  Stuck at max intensity.

    Be gone, Romeo !

Oh my Bruce. What you have experienced is insane. Hope you find some trouble free optics soon.

That has been my experience as well. I have various lengths (and generations) of 9mm for Open and 40 for Limited.

Could never tell a difference between generation one and generation two as far as performance goes. The green followers were always good to go.

Have any of you guys had both the shooting USA holster and the Everglades? I broke the arm on my shooting USA and either have to fabricate a new piece or order a new holster and I’m curious how the mrh compares.

I have. But I never had them at the same time so I cannot recall if the arms are identical but they were very very close.
