  1. So Egw u die would be replacement of my dillon decapping and resizing die? Would the egw eliminate bulging?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It has for me. My process may be different from many. I'm using a Lee Turret press that I manually index for my own reasons. I use a universal decapper with dirty brass (the walls don't touch). Wet tumble, hand prime, then EGW U die. I removed the pin from the die since I hand prime. Mounting the die as low as possible without hitting the ram has worked for me for thousands of rounds. Again, I'm using a Glock so my tolerances are much more forgiving. I don't own a tight chamber 40 but my reloads work in my Glock and M&P without issue.
  2. I run an EGW U die. I used to run the bulge buster but had issues with coated lead falling in the cases. I used both for a while then tried with just the EGW U die and everything runs fine. I'm also running a Glock 35 so there is still wiggle room.
  3. That's way too much crimp. Enough for me to not shoot it but that's just me. Probably too far back but here are my load looks. Left to right is a 180gr zero fmj, 180gr Xtreme plated, the pulled bullets are another zero and a Berry's round nose 180gr.
  4. That's a great method that one day, when the laziness subsides, I would like to try. On a side note, I'd love to hear about that 40 open load formula.
  5. I just ordered some xtremes. It will be my first time loading them. How do you like them vs Berrys or Rainiers?
  6. I was just using the scale for bullet weights. I now have experienced all companies that make a coated lead vary in weights but nothing disastrous. As far as my chargemaster, I program tweaked it and did the straw when I got it. Never had an issue with it.
  7. I'm glad everyone feels the same about what tools should be used for development. As I stated, my first chrono was broken. Shot by an arrow actually. I've since purchased a new one and have done more testing and development. Just in love with RS Comp right now. Thanks.
  8. N320 shoots cool. My brother saves it for his revolver as his cylinder isn't as hot for reloads. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I've had the same issue at the end of my barrel. Mine has happened with Bayou, Ibejiheads and Blear Creek. Bear Creek was the least of them. I still don't see the success that so many see. I'll be doing plated from here out. I don't know why it's happened in my gun, but with one of the company's bullets, I was also getting some gumming at the end of the barrel as well. I've run tons of powder types so it's not centralized to one powder. I'll be following this for answers too.
  10. Well I decided to give it a shot at a match. My rounds didn't quite make major but they were hot for minor. I did chrono the rounds. My load was 6.2gr of HS-6 at 1.125 with a 180gr Bear Creek. I was shooting out of a Glock 35. I made 157-160pf. I didn't like the thump that came out of this. It wasn't a snap (flip), just a strong push back. Almost felt like a 45. Accuracy was as good as I could be. There wasn't any questionable holes in targets that's I couldn't explain. From within 10yds though, it was a laser. Loved it for that... I don't think it would be a competition powder for the non-comped guns but I do think I could be the powder you throw in when friends want to go to a static range and plink around.
  11. I tried to find other people's experiences with HS-6 and 40sw. Some are for it, some are against. I recently acquired some and wanted to give it a try in 40. Down side, chrono broke. I loaded up some 180gr Bear Creek and some 180gr Berry's to try out. I did 2 loads. One at 6.0gr and the other at 6.5gr. Both had 1.135 OAL. I immediately liked the 6.5gr load with both bullets, but the Bear Creek rounds really surprised me. They were much more accurate than Berry's. I really need to get these chrono'd. So now I'm thinking I could make a minor load out of this. Anyone have some experience with HS-6 for 40? Please share.
  12. Should I be concerned? This is the 2nd bullets company that I've tried and has had this much weight over. These are Bear Creek. The weight is consistent.
  13. I'm still trying to find a major load that I like as much as N320. I have a few pounds of WSF and WST, TG, and all the other popular ones. Just no N320. I'd love to try Solo 1k or Ramshot Competition.
  14. I hear this is an extremely bad combination. So I'll say this. Send me the rest of your N320 and I'll safely dispose of it. Safety first!
  15. AAA major ammo is some of the softest stuff I've ever shot. I've been trying to figure out their formula for a while. The closest I got is with WST, but even then AAA is still softer.
  16. Update: Since the EGW undersized die, I have not had the issue. Now it's time to load some coated lead and have fun again.
  17. The bullet would falls when I placed it before pushing through the seating die. What I've discovered is that the sizing die isn't up to par. EGW U-die is on its way and hopefully this helps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Thanks everyone. This all helps. It's sort of like fundamentals of reloading. I am using Lee dies on a Lee Turret press. My expander is a powder through expander. I measured the "sleeve"?, I don't know what you would call the inner part that actually expands the case. The bottom most part starts at .400 and ends at .411. Could this be my issue? I took 5 cases and measured before bulge busting. The ID was .404-.406. After running through, I got .402-.404. I've always thought that the bulge buster was enough. So I ran the same cases through a Lee sizer (which I didn't do for Berry's) and got .399-.401. My expander now puts my at .402 max, I didn't get any higher than that. I get limited time through the week to hang out in the shed where the reloading bench is, so my tests are random at best. I'm a weekend kinda guy. I haven't received my bullet puller yet so I can't give data on how the bullet looks after my latest crimp setting changes.
  19. This is what I've come up with so far. The ID of the case before sizing is .400-.401. I think I've been expanding too hard (from research) as I can actually see the bell. I've since backed way off and the bullet doesn't drop free. BUT, when I go to seat, some bullets still fall free. Those bullets I've been able to pull and mic. They have all been .401. I've taken the same case and put a Berry's in and I get a tight fit. No spin or movement. The conclusion I've come up with (which I'm still open to suggestion) is, EGW U die, separate seating and crip die. My current process is, decap with a universal, clean, bulge bust, size again, expand, seat/crimp. Opinions?
  20. That's the thing. Berry's measure the same as the Bayous. (.401) but it doesn't happen with the Berry's.
  21. I was. I've since backed off on the expanding. Crimp remains the same measurement, but I can spin the bullet with my fingers. I can't setback with finger force though.
