  1. You can also get a fat boy or pig tail gas tube to slow down the recoil impulse.
  2. I checked my bushing - it is a Hornady #489, which is listed as 33 grains of Blue Dot. I loaded up a bunch of these, and was able to do a mag dump of 11 rounds without it climbing or pushing me off balance. It is very controlable. BTW - this was in my M1
  3. If you go the route of the LNL - make sure you get the new ejection system. I had nothing but trouble with the old wire system. I was ready to smash the press into bits! Having trouble ejecting every 5th round is very frustrating. I also find the case feeder to be quite finicky at times, but I can live with that if I don't have to jiggle this or that to get a round out of the shell plate at the same time.

    SIGHTS FOR MY 34

I ordered a "50+" sight set from Heinie - it is a Heinie Rear (you can choose from different styles) paired with the appropriate Dawson Fibre Optic Front. Hasn't arrived yet, but I like that setup on my XD.
  5. Yes. I look at every load as it comes down from the powder measure. +2 And you'll load faster if you do that. Just like with shooting, if your vision finds precisely where your sights need to go, they will go there quickly and accurately. be OK - I guess that is the answer!
  6. Where do you put it? Or are you seating and crimping in the same station?
  7. Looking at getting a 550, but with only 4 stations, there seems to be no way to add a powder cop, which then leads to a 650 for more stations. Do all you 550 shooters just rely on your eyeballs with no other safeguards? Thanks
  8. I had a local guy cast me some slugs from a LEE mold and they work fine. Just load them using 1 oz shot data (I started lower and worked up). They go in a regular 7/8oz wad with a felt spacer on top. They are good enough to hit an Alpha at 50 yards. +1 I cast that slug myself, and have been able to get groups in the 6" range at about 75 yards out of a smooth bore Benelli M1 with a 21" Barrel. what powder, how much? Jim M ammo I used a modified ghost ring sight and a ribbed barrel with a FO Bead (I had an Express Style V Notch made to replace the ghost ring). As for my charge - it is straight out of the Lyman Book 43 grains of Blue Dot, Win 209 Primer and a WAA12F114 Wad in Remington Premier Hulls. (although now that I think about it, I may have used the 34 grain charge listed for a 1-1/4 oz field load using the same primer/wad/hull - I will have to check my Powder Bushing). I know it isn't light recoiling (I didn't develop the load for that purpose), but there is also a load listed that uses 29 grains of Univ. Clays that is lower pressure. You can call Lyman at 1-800-22-LYMAN and ask for one of the Shotshell Reloading Technical Staffers to see if they have info on reduced recoil loads.

  10. One thing you might try is to practice looking at things with a pair of Binoculars. The same type of focus is required, because when you pick out an object to look at, then bring up the binoculars, you will lose the object if you take your eyes off it, even for an instant. You see people who don't know how to use them hunting all over for what they wanted to look at, bringing them down and then back up, trying to find the object in the glass. Since binoculars are magnified, the field of view is very small compared to a dot sight, making it even more critical to keep focused on the object. Not sure if it would help or not.
  11. I talked with the Technical Director for BATF (the guy who enforces those rules with MFG's) and he was actually working to repeal that code. I got the impression that they would only enforce that if you were already in hot water (another count to pile on the list) and were not out looking for violators.
  12. Removed....Should have had my reading glasses on!
  13. The chrome lining is so hard that your barrel will not "Wear Out". They chrome line M16 Barrels for the same reason. Easier to clean and wear like....well... hard chrome.
  14. I consider myself a continual student - not a master for sure - and I think the Burkett video on Shotgunning is well worth the money. Too many things to list.
  15. Use something if you don't want the finish boogered - after repeatedly having the clamp move, the finish on my barrel wore down to the point that it rusted and pitted under the clamp.
  16. One small advantage of having the bolt carrier modified is that, if when you fire your gun cycles but the bolt does not go all the way forward, if you start to do a reload there is a good chance that when reloading the bolt will move forward. If your bolt is not altered you will not be able to start reloading unless the bolt is fully home. If you go to reload and you can’t, your train of thought can soon turn to rat s**t. I don’t think this happens often but it can happen. It has happened to me before, just before I realised that my mag spring was goosed. I modded my own and found it the easiest job to do so far, but then I am used to using a grinder. I actually used a 4” grinder with an Inox blade as this is about 1/16” (1.6mm) thick. If you are not 100% happy using a grinder then it may be worth considering if the modification is worth it, as like you said, you don’t need to ghost load anyway. Enjoy your shooting. Kind regards Mick You are talking about a different mod - the ghost load still has the issue of not being able to load the tube with the bolt not full locked up. The notch you are cutting allows the shell lifter to get out of the way, but not sure if it allows a ghost load.
  17. I took some emery cloth and roughed up the rear notch real good and filled it with JB Weld - it has gone many thousands of rounds without a hitch.
  18. Just wondering how much you cut and what pad fit? I would like to go Limbsaver, and I need to cut at least 3/4". Nice to find one that fits before the material is gone! Thanks, 5Shot
  19. It's Pat....what did you expect
  20. Pull the bolt back until just before the loading gate pops up, shove a round down onto the loading gate and one in the chamber and let the bolt go forward. You now have one extra round in the gun. If you don't bevel the notch, the loading gate won't stay down and you can't put the extra round there.
  21. Boy...they must have jacked their prices recently. I paid less than $700 back in July '08.
  22. I don't want quiet - I know I can't have that. I want the quietest Comp - since I can't afford to shoot them all I was hoping for some personal experiences.
  23. Pat, How do you keep that Nordic Clamp from moving around? No matter how tight I snug it up, it will move around and it's pretty much wore off the finish on my barrel.
