  1. Have you considered a Chrony Master? I just got one working last evening and the remote "brain" is pretty nice for a number of reasons. It stays with you and is connected to the sensors via a phone cord. That way you can control and see everything without walking back and forth. And when you shoot it, the "brain" won't get destroyed so economic repairs are possible.
  2. Dump the Moly bullets and try some Hi-Tech coated bullets. You'll be amazed, as the barrel will remain clean and shiny. Hopefully, you haven't ruined your barrel with the "cocktails", as if they are Acedic Acid based, it will etch your barrel and make the problem worse as the barrel surface becomes more and more abrasive and will collect more and more lead from the increased friction. You couldn't run fast enough to give me Moly bullets...
  3. The leading problem that you are having with your barrel is not deposited from smoke.
  4. It seems like it takes a couple of days to ship out. The seating die may need adjusting for your particular bullet, but comes set to a 230gr LRN. You will get a case with a bullet installed in it as a sample so you can see the OAL and crimp it is set for. If you are already reloading, it should be no big deal at all to adjust the dies to your particular specs.
  5. I very seldom have anyone shooting .45 at the same time I am, so if there is brass on the floor when I get there I pick it up before I start. That way if it is SP I keep it seperated. With 9mm though, it seems like everyone is shooting .380 or 9mm so it's spraying all around and mixing with my brass.
  6. When I started reloading 9mm I was getting occasional crushed primers. Upon paying more attention, they are always WIN cases and crimped. Not all WIN cases are crimped, so I now watch for the crimped cases. I find 9mm to be a real PITA to reload, as I find crimped cases sneaking in as well as .380 cases. I spend more time sorting cases than I do loading... Today at the range the guy to my left was shooting both Luger and Makerov, so I'm sure I'll be sorting through the brass trying to pick out the Makerov. .40 and .45 are never a problem. Just grab a pile of cases and go.
  7. Have you actually measured your chamber depth? Are you sure that it isn't a chamber diameter problem? My Glock chambers are typically .006" larger diameter than my Sig's. That's why Glock's will chamber just about anything...
  8. 230gr coated RN or 200gr coated SWC.
  9. Just tell her that presses are like shoes...
  10. Use your barrel. My 1911 and my Sig P220 use two different COAL's A chamber gauge would not show that.
  11. 7th Edition shows 1.230" as well. I always start by determining the max COAL for a particular bullet in my barrel, then see if the magazine will accept it, and then work from there. If published data states 1.200" and my barrel will accept 1.250" I know I can load a bit heavier to start. If the opposite, I lighten up the starting load.
  12. Any published load data that I have seen shows identical information for both, which was good enough to convince me!
  13. Unfortunately, I just got home and my manuals are at work. I also have the 7th edition I could look at. That may be the tie breaker!
  14. My Hornady 8th Edition manual shows 1.230" for 230g HAP. 5.2-6.6 Unique.
  15. Another thing I did was to weigh the dish that came with it in a closed up dead calm room. I then marked the weigh on the bottom of the dish using a Sharpie. Every time I use the scale I let it zero and then place the dish on it and make sure it weighs as marked. Usually, if it does not, it's because there is some air movement present, as I can close everything up and check it again and it will read correctly. It's a very inexpensive scale, but I can usually get decent results with it.
  16. I have one of those little scales and it works OK if your surroundings are good. You need to be in an area that is dead calm. No ceiling fan, AC vent, or breeze of any kind. Any little air movement affects the reading, which is most likely true for any digital scale that reads .1g.
  17. I had a similar experience with Moly coated .40 cal. Tried three pistols with Clays, N320, WSF, HP-38, and Universal. Nothing but world record barrel fouling after only ten or twenty rounds at various loads. Switched to Acme's and can use any pistol with any powder at any load and get a clean shiny barrel.
  18. Went to a Bass Pro in FL the other weekend and they had Power Pistol, Red Dot, and Unique in stock a well as numerous different rifle powders. I've only been reloading for a few months but have been able to find anything I needed. I guess you just need to look!
  19. Really?? I've not seen any .45ACP that were not .452" in RN or SWC. http://www.bayoubullets.net/45-acp-230-gr-rn-100-ct/ http://missouribullet.com/results.php?category=5&secondary=13 http://www.acmebullet.com/bullets-reloading-brass/45-ACP-Lead-Bullets/Lead-Bullets-45-Auto-230-Grain-RN http://www.acmebullet.com/bullets-reloading-brass/45-ACP-Lead-Bullets/Lead-Bullets-45-Auto-200-Grain-SWC http://www.berrysmfg.com/products-c141-45_Cal_452.aspx I won't bother with more links to .45ACP bullets. I switched to 5g of Unique and they are working fine.
  20. I was thinking what Steve mentioned. Steel pin tumbling for a few hours should round the edges a bit. They may also just be too short to where the expander is not belling them quite enough with it's present setting.
  21. The starting load seems a bit light. Lee recommends a minimum load of 5.0g with a max of 5.6g at 1.230 OAL. You're a bit longer than that as well. Crimp should have nothing to do with un-burned powder in your example
  22. Why worry about problems you you are not having? Try the dies that you have and see if the results are satisfactory. If you were happy with the results when using the dies in a single stage press there is no reason that they wouldn't work on a 650. A press is a press, the dies don't know what press they are being used on.
  23. Modifying the chamber to accept out of spec brass makes no sense at all.
