  1. Dave, I did a little bit of research and with those statutes, everything seems okay, until you read California Penal Code 32390 which reads: "32390. Except as provided in Article 2 (commencing with Section 32400) of this chapter and in Chapter 1 (commencing with Section 17700) of Division 2 of Title 2, any large-capacity magazine is a nuisance and is subject to Section 18010." And so we must read California Penal Code 18010: 18010. (a) The Attorney General, district attorney, or city attorney may bring an action to enjoin the manufacture of, importation of, keeping for sale of, offering or exposing for sale, giving, lending, or possession of, any item that constitutes a nuisance under any of the following provisions: ... (20) Section 32390, relating to a large-capacity magazine. ... ( These weapons shall be subject to confiscation and summary destruction whenever found within the state. © These weapons shall be destroyed in the same manner described in Section 18005, except that upon the certification of a judge or of the district attorney that the ends of justice will be served thereby, the weapon shall be preserved until the necessity for its use ceases." So what I read from this is that they will simply confiscate your magazines and then destroy them. There would be no fine involved. I would ask this: With a discretion of a police officer involved, would they really do any "raids" on any local USPSA match? I would suspect that there are at least one or two officers at any given California USPSA match that would not blink an eye at people using high capacity magazines. I understand that these statutes were constructed to battle the violence in heavy crime areas and are used as "add-on" offenses. How often do we believe that these are enforced. I suspect enforcement varies GREATLY throughout the state. But then, this is all an academic discussion when you realize that there are SO MANY matches here in Northern Nevada. We have the matches in Fallon, Reno and Carson City. Did I miss any others? The only matches I go to in Sacramento are the NorCal Practical Precision Rifle Club matches, which are all bolt action matches. So no worries there since you would not have a magazine greater than 10 rounds. Good discussion though. I checked around in Calguns and the prevailing theme there was simple: no one bothers you about high capacity magazines. And when I spoke to some people from a 3Gun club from Sacramento who travelled here to Reno, stated that they have all kinds of "illegal" stuff and no one bothers them.
  2. Dillon is one of the best companies to deal with. I have confidence in my reloading equipment because of their willingness to make it right. They really know how to take care of their customers. I would not hesitate to recommend them in a heart beat and spend more money there. Maybe in a year or two I will buy another caliber conversion. My recent purchase of the 9mm conversion and extras went FLAWLESSLY. Awesome company.
  3. Thanks. I hope the quality can come close to the Co-Ax and Big Boss it'll be sitting next to! I've always had some Dillon lube on hand Since I bought the carbide 45 dies...assuming I won't need it there though, right? carbide dies not needing lube is misconception...I always use case lube. Try both with and without lube and you will see what I mean. good choice of loader! jj Incorrect. While the carbide rifle dies still require lube, the carbide pistol dies DO NOT need lubing at all. I reload 9mm and no problems whatsoever. Save yourself a bunch of time and don't worry about lubing straight walled cases when running a carbide dies. As for others stating that the Dillon dies are no good, well… opinions are like… you know. I personally have had amazing experience with their dies. I consider them to be some of the best. I would not blink to buy more. And with Dillon customer service being what it is, you have no worries. To the OP, I would get a powder check die and some extra ammo Akrobins. Having the powder check die for the .45 caliber reloading is good since the powders are so small and you do not want to double or squib load anything. That powder check die already found 2 errors that have saved my bacon. Good luck and it is good to see someone who is serious about reloading.
  4. Your reload looks really good. I can tell you have practiced quite a bit. Keep up the practice!! I would have to agree with Nimitz. Keep the gun higher, that way you do not waste any time looking down. I would also recommend some videos, either from Ben Stoeger or Saul Kirsch. They are both very knowledgable. Try to look up the Upper Nisqually Gun Club. I believe they have USPSA matches there. It is about a 2 hour drive from Portland. Something you might want to look into.
  5. +5 for Uplula, even the pink one works. Just ask my wife.
  6. So after some research and finding that indeed, the Rudy Projects were on huge discount, we went with the Rudy Project Rydons. Thank you all for your help and especially you Dave!! We look forward to seeing you at the next local match, weather depending. As you know, these are for Rina. It is amazing how well Rina is handling the cold matches. She usually would suffer when the temperature gets below 70 degrees fahrenheit. Now she is all bundled up and ready to go for the next match. And to see her improvement… wow.. proud husband speaking, close your ears!! Later, Neil
  7. Thanks Butter. I looked over their website and they do make an "Asian Fit" model, but I could not find anywhere to buy this. I reached out to some guys in Singapore (where my wife is from) IDPA and I await a response. Meanwhile, I will take a look at the Smith Aegis Echo. Thank you all so far. Any more suggestions out there? Anything I am missing?
  8. My wife is really getting into USPSA matches, but she is in search of some glasses that will work with her asian featured face. She does not have the large nose bridge that I and other Europeans have. We did buy a pair of Oakley's that are asian fit, but the arms are too large for her hearing protection to work effective (MSA Sordins). Do any of you know or have experience with this? Which eyewear would you recommend? Any help would be appreciated.
  9. Did you try to claim repairs under warranty? I understand they have a 5 year warranty.
  10. Does anyone know if Limcat can do a left handed version?
  11. So are you just wanting us to agree with you regarding what you want to buy? If you want a Camelback, just buy one. It is not a range bag though, just saying. I am in the market for a range bag myself but am waiting for more responses for good information.
  12. You know, MSA Sordin was quite honest and straight forward regarding their "18db" noise reduction rating. They publish their lowest noise reduction rating while most of the others publish with their highest. Here is an EXCELLENT link to review regarding the MSA Sordin's and how they work and why they chose the 18db NRR: http://trevoronthetrigger.wordpress.com/2014/05/01/msa-sordin-supreme-performance-the-misleading-nrr18db-rating/ The short version: Noise reduction ratings/levels are different at different frequencies. I never thought of it that way.
  13. Everyone, There is a significant special going on right now at Double Alpha Academy. They have a Christmas Special on the MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X with gel cups for $247 US. This is an amazing deal, about $80 off the regular price you would find here in the United States. I have used a pair for about 4 years and they have worked amazingly well. I purchased these so I can get mine back from my wife, who just started pistol competition and "stole" them from me. Here is a link: http://www.doublealpha.biz/christmas-offers/xmas-2014-sordin-pro-x-gel Enjoy!!!
  14. The Dewey Rods are the best. I use them for all of my precision rifle cleaning needs. Thank you for the post!!
  15. Adam, I just purchased a H&K P30LS for her and she loves it. She went with the "S" version so that she could leave it cocked and safety on for limited 10 competitions. Otherwise, she lacked the strength to run the pistol on double action with the hammer down. I suspect a trigger job will help her with the double action at a later date. Please let us know how the trigger work helped for your purposes. Did it help? Did you eventually get the P30LS? Congratulations on making master class!!
  16. I agree, to a point. I wonder though about the ammunition itself. I loaded some rounds with a power factor just at 128 and the gun would not cycle for my wife, but fine with me firing. So I upped the charge and bullet weight and voila, problem solved.
  17. In all seriousness, it you want the ultimate, get Crye Precision. I use them for all of my tactical rifle work. However, if I am not going to be on my knees a lot, I go with the 5.11 Tactical pants. They are really nice. My wife likes the Under Armor pants. They fit her very nicely.
  18. My wife and I just went with this custom belt. Here is a link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/FBC-Tactical-Inc/647368511949304 He is still a one man shop, but man, the quality is amazing, made in America and completely custom, down the the nearest half inch!
  19. Thank you guys for all of the information. My wife does a lot of dry-fire practice and it has helped her immensely!
  20. I have read a bunch of different places and still cannot find out where the minimum posts needed prior to starting a thread. Maybe I am finally blind?
  21. I had a similar experience. Super fast response, excellent sight fit on my P30L, and their guarantee cannot be beat!!
  22. Graham, if I may? I purchased the Kestrel 4500 with Applied Ballistics last year and have never made a better purchase. Yes, it is completely worth it. I will give you some reasons, but first, to answer your question: At what point do you need one? The answer is simple: When you need to achieve a first round hit EVERY time on targets past 200 yards out to 1500 (and further, depending on caliber). The Kestrel will take all of the variables and put them together into coherent easy to ready package and spit out a VERY accurate elevation call and proposed windage calls. Your guessing regarding ballistics is simply over. There is no more guessing. The other advantages are small size, long battery life, waterproof, and multi-functional. Yes, you could make due with a ballistic's solver, a cheap Kestrel and a data book. The downsides to these is battery life (phone rarely lasts the whole day), difficult to use and you have multiple pieces of kit to manage. When I look back when I was shooting prior to the Kestrel AB, I was simply lost. I was struggling with FDAC (Field Density Altitude Compensator) and printed out range cards. Now, I bring the Kestrel and it does the rest. If precision long range rifle work is your game, you need a Kestrel AB.
  23. I here all of the complaints and rest assured, Frank will fix everything. He is a man of his word. When he says he will do something, he will. So stop complaining and just be patient. It will all get worked out.
  24. So my wife, Triggerhippie on this forum, is getting totally into USPSA shooting. I have competed for a few years, but never got serious, until now. I usually compete in Long Range Precision/Tactical Rifle competitions and am putting on a couple of matches in 2015 here in Northern Nevada. My screen name may be familiar to people who frequent the Sniper's Hide forum, of which I am a heavy contributor. I am looking forward to learning a lot here and I thank all of the people who contribute to this forum.
