  1. Actual I prefer loading pistol on the 550 b.I have big hands and placing bullets on the case with the square deal slows me down even tho it auto indexes I can run a little faster with the 550.Changing calibers is quick with the 550b adjusting dies and powder are easier also as it don't auto index so my shell stays in the same station. The quick changes are gonna be about the same also,so for 50.00 more you will also be able to load rifle calibers.
  2. If you haven't tried it yet wash the inside of the drum and the plastic drum insert in dawn and hot water.Mine was leaking at first after a good bath it works flawless now.
  3. You might give the lee auto drum a look I've never seen more consistent drops and I definatatly love blue.
  4. If I find a good holster I'll keep you posted .
  5. Is the steel challenge sanctioned or just a fun shoot in Yakima ?Will be going to try the steel shoot at rose-Irish range this Sunday.I'm still needing a belt and holster before I can shoot uspsa, any suggestions on a good holster and belt set up for a RIA .40 pro match pistol?
  6. I'm from richland! I just got 4 of the mags from advanced tactical they feed great.
  7. I haven't seen the dvd is it worth ordering with the 650?
  8. I just got a lee powder drum measurer it might be an option for you.You will need a rifle charging die from lee also probably set you back 60.00.for pistol you can just use the manufacture powder thru dies. This measure throws some seriously dead on loads over and over. The only trick to Make it run right is wash it with dawn and hot water.I threw 50 loads to settle it in and it runs like a top.
  9. Well looks like I'll sell the square deal butt I'm gonna lose money big time as my son claimed it lol.Humm maybe not when he takes it home I bet I'll see component usage drop yehaw!
  10. Yes you will also need dies for the 9mm.You can use any manufactures dies on the 550 b I have .45 dies from Dillion but lee dies for my .223 I was loading on a single stage press before buying a 550 so I had a lot of different rifle dies .222,30.06,.243 22.250 rcbs dies ,lee dies,Lyman dies they all work on the 550.If your only going to load pistol and 1 or 2 calibers the square deal is a great press also but you can only use Dillion dies on it.
  11. Dillon fan here! Trust me the no B.S. Lifetime warranty is the best.I bought a square deal in around 1990 loaded hundred of thousand rounds last week the primer slide plastic housing that keeps the primer slide aligned broke in half it was a plastic part.I was trying to find a replacement on the square deal b schematic and it wasn't showing so I called Dillion .They told me they changed the design and the part wasn't available but they would send me a replacement part 3 days later I had a whole new primer assembly.Had a primer alarm that was cracked ,yep they replaced it and also the follower rod to it the dog grabbed it off my bench and chewed the end I explained what happened to the rod guess what no charge.Im ordering a 650 in July for my 60th birthday.some on also said the 550 was a crippled ap lol but if I could only afford one press for both rifle and pistol I would be buying a 550 for sure!
  12. I might recommend the basic 550 press for 259.00 you could always upgrade the primer system and get a powder measurer.you might even look at throwing a lee auto drum powder measure on it to speed up reloading,I use one on my 550 for .223
  13. The powder measurer might get you in a ball park year but I'm not sure but my square deal bought in 2001 has the older powder measurer on it.
  14. I think I'm getting the 650 ,defiantly keeping the 550 for .223 but as suggested I might sell the square deal and load 9mm and .40 on the 650. I think if I sell the square deal and use the money for a Caliber conversion and powder measure I would be set.Thank you for the help guys.
  15. Make sure your powder bar is clean and your fail safe rod installed correctly.I also run return springs on the powder bar.
  16. Thanks for the input.im loading about 10k of .40 right now but I'm about to start shooting uspsa currently just shooting steel matches but with practice and adding a sport for me and the wife it will probably be double or triple for ammo needed.
  17. Ok so I have a Dillion square deal set for one caliber of 9mm,also have a 550 that I'm loading .223,.40 and .45 not much on the .45 maybe 1000 rounds a year.So I been pondering a 650 for the .40 as a dedicated machine but Brian was thinking maybe just do 5000 rounds between caliber changes.Thinking about this and thought humm maybe a case feeder on the 550 would speed things up and make loading easier. What do you guys think?
  18. I've had mine for 22 years with out problems really is an outstanding press.I've been thinking about a 650 but I might try a case feeder on my 550 and just load 2-3 k rounds at a time before switching calibers.
  19. Range report on the magazine all ran flawless with 180 grain blue bullets and 180 grain xtreme bullets.
  20. Rock island has .40 magazines in stock for the .40 pro match model 51738.just received 4 and I'll see how they shoot today .They don't seem as Heavy as the original that came with the gun.The base plate is shorter also.
  21. I'd like to see a powder slide for pistol that was as thick as the rifle slide instead of the 2 piece set up!
