  1. Anyone else using their PCC as a limited gun instead of 223 for MG matches? For local matches where we don't extend past 50 yards, I'm finding it works well and the ammo is a lot cheaper to shoot. Of course once you extend past 50 yards you'd want something faster, but even at the last rifle match there was someone shooting their PCC at 200 yards. Said they had to aim about a foot high, though.
  2. I'm using the Blitzkrieg hydraulic now with the kaw valley precision 308/pistol caliber extra power spring. In the end I bet most of the double spring buffers work pretty similarly. I was even having trouble distinguishing between the hydraulic and solid buffers. Possibly the KVP 7.5 oz buffer felt *slow*, but it was subtle.
  3. Out of a Kaw Valley Precision 16" barrel, with an xtreme 147 gr bullet, 2.6 grains Tite Group, 1.130" OAL, CCI primers, I chronoed right at 130 PF. Found that S&B primers dropped me 20-30 fps. Brass and inside of gun does get pretty dirty, though, after a few hundred rounds. If Tite Group is one of the cleaner ones, I'd hate to see what the others are like.
  4. Looks like there are a couple options out there now for 'recoil-reducing' buffer systems: Blitzkrieg's Hydraulic Buffer https://www.blitzkriegcomponents.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=AR15-KYNJP-9C Taccom's ULW PCC System: https://taccom3g.com/product/complete-ulw-pcc-recoil-system/ And MBX's upcoming buffer system: Looks like the MBX isn't widely available yet, but I'm curious how these all compare. Blitzkrieg's hydraulic one seems the most promising since it can convert some of the recoil energy to heat, while in the MBX just having a spring will still send that energy back into the bolt slamming into the barrel. Haven't seen much out there about the Taccom one, has anyone tried it?
  5. Got a second vortex viper and can confirm it also had the low refresh rate for everything but the highest brightness. Not sure yet if it bothers me yet, but it's definitely something I don't see with the burris fastfire.
  6. I mounted a Vortex Viper red dot to my M&P and noticed that on anything but full brightness, I can catch a flicker as I transition across the room, like its refresh rate is really low. I've also got a Burris FF3 and it's nowhere near as bad, it reads more as a streak. I do like the lower profile of the viper, though, and its dot is more red than the orange of the FF3. Not sure if it bothers me yet, but does anyone else see the same thing on their viper? The picture below indicates the effect.
  7. Got the nitro fin fitted, had to file down the bottom where it hits the grip portion of the frame as well as take down the circumference of the pin just a bit.
  8. Has anyone fitted a Nitro Fin thumb rest to their RIA? As soon as I put it in the slide locks up. Not sure if it just won't fit in general or if there's something I need to file down.
  9. Anyone try these before? Looks like they're 3d printed but they're a lot cheaper than other carriers I've seen. Belt clip included, too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/nczworks-Load4-8-12-Gauge-Quadload-Shotshell-Caddy-Carrier-/121790678289?hash=item1c5b4a4511:g:CGAAAOSwA4dWIvi4
  10. I started with the Burris Dovetail mount, but 3d printed a thinner adapter plate to get it lower. The part that slides into the dovetail is still metal, but my adapter plate lets you reuse the dovetail screwholes to mount the optic instead of the second set on the thicker plate it comes with.
  11. I haven't compared myself, but another advantage the long slide might have is more weight in the front, reducing muzzle rise.
  12. Saw that USPSA production rules were clarified that extended mag releases are legal in production as long as they only extend length and not width. Sounds like the LF Arms and Catalyst mag releases are legal then?
  13. For those who have polished their magazine tubes - did you apply anything as a rust protectant?
  14. That looks about right. It looks shorter if you use extended knurled chokes. How far does it measure from muzzle to the tube end? We have been thinking about machining them to a custom length since the standard MXT tube overhangs. Looks like 25.5" from muzzle to the frame. I was surprised because looking at some other pics online it seemed to match closer. Could barrel length vary that much?
  15. How long are the +6 extension tubes other people are using? Mine is 14", but it's coming out further past my 26" barrel than it seems to be for other people.
  16. http://www.shootersconnectionstore.com/Grams-SpringFollower-Kit-11-Coil-P384.aspx Note that my slide doesn't lock back on empty with these when shooting, though they do when just inserting an empty mag and racking the slide. Doesn't bother me in practice because I should be avoiding shooting to empty anyway.
  17. My experiences confirm what's been said in this thread, the Mecgar Para P16 blued mags are a bit shorter than the factory RIA mags, but can still work well. RIA Factory Mag + Grams Follower/Spring + Dawson Basepad for Para -> 21 rounds reloadable Mecgar Mag + Grams Follower/Spring + Dawson Basepad for Para -> 20 rounds reloadable (I can cram in 21, but the follower can get stuck, leaving the rounds loose) Mecgar Mag + Grams Follower/Spring + Arrendondo Basepad -> 19 rounds reloadable I had the slide lock back early once with one of the mecgar mags, but haven't had it repeat since so it may have been my mistake. I did try a friend's STI mags once. They seemed to feed ok, but locked back early with one round left and did not drop free. Squeezing them in a vise for a bit probably would have fixed that. Have not done anything to the pistol or the mag release.
  18. Nm, saw that skeeter said the blued ones.
  19. Were the ones that work the nickel or blued ones Greg Cote sells?
  20. Here's the response from Armscor: The 51738 is the 40 cal pro Match Hand built in our custom shop Full rail with no accessory cuts, it is smooth LPA target sights The 51782 is 40 cal VZ 2011 Production pistol Full rail with accessory cuts LPA adjustable rear Fiber optic front
  21. Anyone know the difference between these two Rock Island Armory 2011 .40 Tactical and Pro Match models? 51738 - .40 Pro Match 51782 - High Capacity Tactical The only differences I can find are the full rail on the Pro Match and different sights (though both are adjustable). Any idea what might make the Pro Match better or worse as a USPSA Limited gun?
  22. Jesse, do you prefer the 24" over the 26"? With a 12 round tube does it even make a difference?
  23. Is the limbsaver much of an improvement over the original pad? From what I hear the 930 isn't bad on recoil to bring with, and the original pad is pretty soft.
