  1. Is there a link to those threads? Just curious what the logic was, because as Turbo23 says, "does not compute." A search on "Grauffel" turns up nothing related. Thx
  2. How are you getting around the issue of the Dawson magwell having a brass plug? I *think* that's an IDPA no-no.

    A Class

I believe that's what L10 is for.... Seriously, congrats!
  4. <grin> I will say, categorically, I've never seen anything not run like a single-stack -- my own included. OK, *maybe* sometimes it's the ammo, for sure, but some 1911's need ammo within tolerances a G21 would scoff at. I like Glocks. I probably shoot them better than I do anything else, but since I'm so heavily invested in non-Glocks, I'm forcing myself to transition away, this year....A strange Catch-22.
  5. What are the lightest magazine options out there for the SP-01? I have two of the 19-rounders, but need a bunch more magazines for Production, and possibly IDPA, so 10-rounders would be fine.
  6. You had asked me what I do with my Glocks. I haven't really changed much over the years. - Factory extended mag release - Standard (NON-extended) slide stop/release - grip tape - Good fixed sights. I've been using a set of modified Heinie Slant Pros for years, but the Warren (Sevigny) sights are what I would go with. - 25 cent trigger job. I wear 3 Safariland mag pouches, in front of a double mag pouch. Loader mag goes in a pocket. (I start with 10+1 in the gun and 5 more mags on the belt.) I run a stock recoil spring in the 9mm. My loads are 125's and TG at 135+ pf Friend, you're never going to impress an IDPA Sharpshooter, running that rig. You need to disable at least two safeties, in your quest for the sub-1lb trigger, but the gun is still safe, Jack, thanks to your secret trigger job, see? Your Glock should have $72 of aftermarket springs from different makers, and don't skimp on any part that comes in titanium, or, best of all, a rare-earth metal.
  7. Some also claim the origin is from the copper buttons on officer's uniform coats years ago...."bring it on copper" that sort of thing. Ah yes! Those uniform coats were quickly abandoned, however, as the buttons became known as "Copper Rings of Death."
  8. This photograph isn't much better than the good General's, earlier in this thread, but I'm tired of screwing with this Fuji point-n-shoot....Photo's don't do this pistol justice, anyway. I bought her from General Chang during his 18" sale (ha!). I was saving for something else, but have always wanted an SVI. Internally lightened 6" with some special funky frame that allows 5" guide rod and reverse plug w/out that, uh, 'interesting' look other 6" guns have forward of the frame's dust cover. Only pistol that even comes close to the slide and frame fit, is a Les Baer PII I have, and this gun is even tighter with none of the hand-hammered vibe the LB has -- ie, chatter marks from tools, etc. You could use racking the slide on this pistol for a physics lesson on vectors. I'm also knocked out by the trigger -- I forget what I paid to get a 2lb trigger with Extreme Engineering parts on my other Limited gun, a short DC STI gun built by Caylor, but this trigger is even better. I've only put 100-150 round through her, so far. Oh so soft, and after a frightening couple minutes where the shots weren't even on the target backer and 2' (yes, 2 *feet*) high at 25y -- General Chang, what in hell were you shooting?? -- the groups snapped into focus. Did I mention the gun shoots softly? My elbows will thank me. Who's got this gun's twin? I'm thinking he or she is mighty pleased.
  9. Good call. That is an incredibly powerful and disturbing book -- I picked it up recently, on the strength of "No Country...." For those that haven't read it, it's the story of a 14 year-old boy who joins up with a gang of mercenaries in the 1850's, selling Indian scalps for bounty along the Texas/Mexico border.....
  10. Those are excellent points. However, the demand for gasoline is largely inelastic, and thus the pain. You do have to get to work, but you don't have to drink Starbuck$, and a plethora of Korean and other Asian manufacturers compete fiercely to drive the prices of wide-screen plasmas and LCD's *down*. I think Bountyhunter's position is a bit extreme, however I'm not entirely wild about taxpayer subsidies for the industry, either. Let the free market work. I can assure you, I'll never buy another V8/V6 again. On the other hand, don't underwrite exploration costs, etc., with our hard-earned dollars. We pay enough in tax, on a freakin' gallon.
  11. Shooting Limited on a Saturday all-day squad....Out of curiosity, will there be a match book w/stages avail for download? Thx
  12. TMC - Gasoline inventories are at a 14-year *high*. If refining capacity is such a bottleneck, why is supply abundant? Why aren't there lines at the pumps? There were MORE refineries in the late 80's than today (219 vs 149).
  13. Heh -- sent an email to SVI last week, asking about build times, and he replied that they've been swamped with business....A lot of it foreign, because of the weak dollar. If this keeps up, we're going to have to order from stores...in Brussels! On topic -- everyone has his or her favorite boogeyman. IMO, two major issues are reflected by the prices at the pump: 1) Global oil prices and demand thereof. 2) Weak US dollar. The 'why's' of the items above are what's interesting.
  14. Stupid on so many levels....<sigh> Campus Gunman a Hoax
  15. The entire situation is rotten to the core. I could give much of a f*ck if some moron homeowner (for now!) gets a small check to make the next payment. It won't matter and it won't help. I live in mortal fear of a full-blown Federal bailout of the corruption and evil that created this mess. The lenders, the speculators and parallel investors AND the borrowers all need to be accountable, but it won't happen. The banks will wash their hands of the dirty laundry and hand it to FNMA, or maybe some new entity from Paulson and Bernanke that will be paid for with Chinese dollars, and the debt and house of cards will continue to grow....And those of us who continue to be responsible and try to invest wisely and live within our means, will get an even harder screw. Bah. Nice rant, Fireant. We're supposed to be cheerful it's the weekend. :/
  16. would anyone care to answer? Sure! The point you're missing is: differences in pistol design are less germane to any unhappy reaction than having a new shooter profess proudly to having dug around in his Glock and disabled a safety mechanism. <shrug>
  17. Thx, Glyn - yeah, I remember that discussion. I will have to check that wrist-band out. I appreciate the advice; I should see if I can find an Open gun to try for at least a practice session, but it's not necessarily an immediate revelation. Elbows might be fine, then, down the road, as Mr T says, "the forecast calls for PAIN." I'm trying to just get a feel for the recoil and shock compared to .40 major; I don't want to make an expensive mistake: certainly Open SEEMS violent, but I'm thinking that's also recoil energy leaving the gun.... Probably should just focus on a heavy production gun, and single-stack, but am craving something different.
  18. All -- thinking somewhat more seriously about an Open gun, but have some concerns about recoil. Over the last year or so, I've developed some elbow issues; I understand them, and I won't bore anyone with 'em. While some pain is exacerbated from reloads and draws, a lot has to do with just squeezing the grip at extension while shooting. I've found, the Glock 35 in major the most painful to shoot over time, followed closely by my STI major Limited gun (which is a std frame, short dc gun). The 1911 bothers me the least -- perhaps it's the heavy weight, slimmer grip and I find .45acp pretty gentle. My question is, where does a 9mm Open gun (5" non-ported) fit in? I've tried one briefly, but that's not enough to tell anything. There's a blast, but it's a lot of bark, too - I'd like opinon on the 'bite.' thx!
  19. I thought Benny Hill said, "Get that single-stack made in South Korea(?) Indonesia(?), and use the rest for bullets". I like your last statement, however. Life is short -- in the 3 years I've been shooting, I've seen more clubs close than open and ammo prices and travel costs are sky-rocketing. You (and I) are fortunate to live in a good area for this sport, so enjoy to the fullest as conscience, family, work, etc, allow. At most matches, Limited will have the largest numbers of shooters, top to bottom, and that in itself might be a good reason to shoot it. It's all good -- I like Limited for the run-and-gun flow, and the reward of fluid movement; I love Production (or L10) for having to execute a game plan with surgical precision, and the creativity and reloading options it provides. If a Limited pistol will enhance your fun, go for it. As those much wiser and better than me have said, you can reach whatever goal to want with what you're currently shooting. But -- maybe because I started shooting at a later age (40) -- I'm finding the reward IS the journey.
  20. North, I've felt that itch. I'm almost convinced I can justify an Open 9mm gun, just because 9mm bullets are all that's left, if you want a quality FMJ/JHP bullet without needing a co-signer.... True, I'd have to shoot 20k a year for 5 years, but after that the gun would be like...free! But I can't imagine not loading on a Dillon. 150 rounds/hr?? <shudder>
  21. Bring way more than what? Ammo? I *think* this Saturday is a 4-classifier match, plus a couple other stages, and a long field course, so I would think less than the usual 150 or so (not counting re-shoots), but you might want to ping Martin, who's the MD, and on this board: Scirocco38s Don't forget the website: www.ncsection.org ! Welcome back!!
  22. I had a Lone Wolf barrel once, and sold it on the forum. Struck me as odd that the cheapest barrel was the most intolerant. Anyway, +1 to Flex -- I've tried a couple different dies, etc, and in .40 the Lee 4-die set is your medicine. It's not the FCD die in the last station so much as it's the sizing die in the first station. Supposedly the EGW die is the same, or 'better', even.
  23. I hear ya'. I have 1000k of LaserCast 200gr SWC's on my shelf that I'm looking at....I'd like to load them up and get classified in SS in two week's at Sirocco38's place, but...well, they're still in the box. :/ Roughly 3 years ago, when I first started this, after a couple months, I had my doc run a lead-level test, thinking it would be a good idea for a baseline. Was slightly high, and I've been sticking my head in the sand ever since, and haven't had a follow-up. :/
  24. With the recent interest in long-slides, has anyone made their own version of a Triangle Shooting Sports Fat-Free by lightening the slide on a 6" Eagle with bushing barrel? I know it's not the same as a hand-built custom, but wondered if that gets one in the ball-park.
  25. Which brings up a companion question....which area of the United States boasts the 'best' USPSA shooters? The question is awkward, because many of the Super Squad travel around so much, but I'm thinking, still -- has to be the Southeastern US, followed by Arizona? Hard to decide where to draw the lines.
