  1. How do you get the skate board tape to stick to your hands for an entire match?
  2. The often start all the way down and then throughout the day as people step on them they start working themselves loose. Sledge hammers are kept at each stage where I shoot so they can be fixed as the day goes on.
  3. What I am amazed by is how slow the RO is at picking up Max's routine. Guy keeps putting the timer up and pulling it down. Oh yeah, Max has amazing transition skills and this shows those skills in isolation. Great video.
  4. What caliber are we talking about and power factor? I currently don't have a 9mm setup for our reloading press and Freedom Munitions 147gr rounds make around 128 PF on average. They are $.24 per round. Could reload for cheaper, but need to get a conversion kit for the Dillon that is currently setup for .40.
  5. I'm curious what that stage looked like. Trying to envision a safe stage where you see a no shoot from one position and a shootable target from another.
  6. I was taking video of my son this last Sunday and we had been parking my wagon with an umbrella near the start position of each stage to try and get the RO some shade (it was hot). My son kept putting chairs and brass bucket between the wagon and the fault lines. Well, here is a good match mistake to learn from me. Know the path you intend to take when doing video for your kids or friends and make sure it is clear. I tripped over our brass bucket while backing up and taking video. The sound you hear is me falling on my butt, brass spilling everywhere and me trying to suppress my laughter so I don't totally screw up the video. I love that my son takes a quick look at what the noise was and finishes the stage. Hope this brings you all a little laughter.
  7. Well, smart people learn from their mistakes and don't repeat them. Really smart people learn from the other clowns around them and prevent their own. As an FYI, I've started with an empty gun on a classifier stage with a par time so I am in the former group apparently. That is when I got some advise and started my Barney mag routine.
  8. For the past few months I have stopped pulling the trigger in dry fire with the exception of the white wall drill. Anything else I practice I am not doing trigger pulls. I was ingraining some bad habits and eliminating the trigger pull has helped me get my accuracy under control while still improving the other elements. I will eventually go back to including trigger pulls in other drills, but honestly, at this point I don't see anything but harm from doing so in my current level of skill.
  9. After additional thought, I think the "Barney mag" should be renamed the "California mag" since that will likely be the next thing our legislature crams down our throats for gun control.
  10. Again, go back to an unloaded start. In my scenario my routine never changes. In your scenario when you loaded your one mag to 11 at the end of the previous stage you have to remember to pull a round prior to the start of the next stage or you are in open. I prefer to never have to vary my routine when ever possible. I have established my routine for a reason. For me, the Barney mag solves a couple of potential problems and is part of my routine. 11 in a mag or a Barney mag... same result in the end, but the 11 rounds carries additional risk. Plus, I am in California, so an 11 round mag would get confiscated and I would get a ticket written starting next year.
  11. This, except I never have a starter mag loaded to 11. I use a Barney mag with a single round. Ensures there is a round in the pistol when I start and never have to worry about getting bumped to Open for 11 rounds in a mag after the beep.
  12. So does Ben Stoeger, but he also uses this stuff to enhance his performance. Took a class from him this year and he goes through this stuff like candy. It works well. I bought it for my 12 year old daughter that struggles with a firm grip especially when it is hot outside.
  13. Just checked my range bag and I used a Acotch velcro that I got at OSH. Strips are about an inch and a half wide and 3 inches long. UPC code 051131642546
  14. Not my pic, but I purchased some pre-cut velcro strips from my local OSH. They may have been the command strips brand, but I can do two pouches from each strip of velcro once I cut them in half. You just peel the backing and it already has adhesive.
  15. Found it on sale at Dawson's yesterday with free shipping.
  16. It happened once or twice during dry fire. Usually it only occurs when Iam realy tensed. But I can´t reproduce it intentionally. Does the original mag release fit in the shadow frame? If so, I replace the shadow extended mag release. Unfortunately Iam living in germany...so thank you for your offer...but I don´t think, that it will be a good deal for both of us. :-D I have very short fingers - but I also don´t see the need of a extended mag release. Are you shooting in Production? If so, remember that rules state that you can change then length of the mag release, but you can't alter the profile.
  17. This^ I have a friend that can't seem to aim correctly, so he lines all of his shots up low rather than fixing his sight alignment issue. Seems to think he has some unique problem that no one else in the world has ever experienced.
  18. Solved the problem by adding some more velcro tape to my mag pouches and one piece to the holster. I am also running a second velcro strap at the rear of my belt. I put my belt on by lining up my first mag pouch with where my hip bone is (production rig) so alignment isn't an issue. Behind the back sucks because my shoulders are terrible and trying to reach behind my back really hurts...seriously hurts.
  19. More importantly, what is your car doing on the ceiling?
  20. Not a lot of rules about what the RO must do, but when we get trained we are told what we should do to maintain a safe sport and ensure a level playing field for fair competition.
  21. "If you are finished, unload and show clear." The Range Officer is responsible for keeping everyone there safe. The command he's issuing has the word "show" in there. In addition, many of the top guys flip and catch. But every one of them that I've seen shows the RO a clear chamber before they drop the hammer and holster. When the men and women with the most experience are doing something it's either because 1) they got in trouble by not doing so and learned their lesson or 2) It's something courteous / expected / required. Yup. Read rule 8.3.6 - “If You Are Finished, Unload And Show Clear” or “Unload and Show Clear” – If the competitor has finished shooting, he must lower his handgun and present it for inspection by the Range Officer with the muzzle pointed down range, magazine removed, slide locked or held open, and chamber empty. Revolvers must be presented with the cylinder swung out and empty. "Must" is never optional when it comes to the rule book. I don't think there is a rule that specifically deals with a shooter refusing to comply, but I imagine if you refuse to unholster and show clear then an RO will definitely be obligated to DQ you. Probably would end up quoting rule 10.6.1 as the reason for the DQ; "failing to comply with the reasonable directions of a Match Official".
  22. The range command is "unload and show clear". The "show clear" portion of that command is a requirement to show the RO that it is clear. I'd make him pull it back out of the holster and start over just to BE SAFE as well as piss him off. Fixed it for ya! Well, technically he pulled the trigger so my opportunity to help him not get DQ'd is over at that point. If he pulls the trigger and there is no bang there is a very slim chance that he has a round in the chamber at that point, although not statistically impossible.
  23. The range command is "unload and show clear". The "show clear" portion of that command is a requirement to show the RO that it is clear. I'd make him pull it back out of the holster and start over just to piss him off.
