  1. Thanks for all of the advice. I am 100% sure my classifier problem is mental. Since I shoot with my 12 year old son my club puts me in the squad with the junior shooters and that squad always shoots one stage and then shoots the classifier. I always do much better after the classifier and need to figure out how to settle my brain down starting at the first stage. I only get to shoot one match a month and it is the thing I really look forward to each month. Got to get my mental game together. Again, thanks for all the advice. Now to figure out what shooting the classifier "just like any other stage" actually looks like in my brain.
  2. You clearly had a good stage, and higher percentage than normal of the stage winners in some other divisions. That, imho, is something to be proud of. Keep trying to improve that and don't worry about everyone else. (note that I have shot L10 and even had some results that I would never tell anyone about, so I get where you're coming from). Back to the classifier problem...... Many (most?) classifiers require more actual shooting accuracy and skill than most field stages. It is not unusual around here for someone to win the classifier stage (beating several M's and A's) with a score that works out to a low 70's classification percentage. So EVERYONE is shooting worse on classifiers than on field stages. It has helped me to get more consistent to just treat the classifier like any other stage, although that is very hard to do when you only need 1 or 2 decent scores to bump up a class. It has also helped me to set up some simple classifier stages and experiment a little, to see how much of a sight picture I need to shoot consistently (no mikes or no-shoots). Often I can get a better score 40-60% of the time by going a little faster, but then I am throwing out some 'hoper' shots, and the other 40-60% of the time is a train wreck. I seem to be discovering lately that when I actually look at my front sight, the same way I do in dry-fire practice, it is sometimes slower, like when i botch the draw and have to wait for the sight picture to clean up before I can break the shot, but often it is actually *faster* to just get a good sight picture, shoot and move on. Some of my best classifiers (or steel challenge runs) felt like they were in slow motion, and I was sure of every shot. Those are the ones where I stopped forcing it, and just let my body do whatever it needed to do to provide the visual input to break the shot. Anyway, sorry for rambling, hope some of this helps. It has taken me a couple years to start figuring this out, so maybe you can save yourself some frustration from having to learn the same thing over and over every few months. Good luck. Fixed the post for you. Now you don't sound like a... well, you know.
  3. I've shot hundreds of matches over the past 20 years, and I've NEVER seen a 33% D shooter come in first in ANY stage. Have you analyzed what could possibly have contributed to you beating 2 B's and 5 C's at any stage? What was that last stage like? Did the 5 of them all have malfunctions? brain fades? Video for this stage is processing now. You can access it Let me know if you think it wasn't good enough for the Division win and everyone else just choked. 6 squads so I do not get to see everyone shoot. Pretty big club with 99 shooters in the April match. Here is a link to the Practiscore page for the stage. Don't think everyone else bombed. https://practiscore.com/results.php?uuid=d51c65c2-8406-472a-8431-fcbf7a2c076e&page=stage4LTDTEN
  4. I feel this way myself. I always chalked it up to being younger and in better physical condition than many at my club. That allows be to match B and A shooters on field courses based purely on sprinting speed. However, on classifiers, where the ability to run fast is not a factor, I am a solid C. I am 47. Definitely not younger or faster.
  5. Well I guess you would have been shocked. Uploading the stage video to Youtube now (server keeps failing, but I will get it posted eventually and include the link). I don't think they choked. I just shot it well. Came in second in another stage and 5th in the L10 Division overall. 5th our of 12 in L10 is reasonable. Remember, what I am saying here is that my classifiers tend to be my worst stage. It is mental and I really appreciate the mental tips people are posting here.
  6. I shot in 13.5 seconds. Without the Mike/No Shoot is would have been a 46%. That is what I was targeting.
  7. I also have one of the Tripp Research 10 round 10mm mags that works very well for long .40. I use it as my Barney mag since it isn't quite as long as the Wilson's and the longer mags make for easier mag insertions during competition.
  8. And I am running an STI Trojan as well... sooooo...
  9. I am using Wilson Combat 10 round 45 ACP mags with the feed lips pinched a bit. This allows me to load the .40s long and the bonus is I can still use the mags in my 45 as well. Have been using them this way for about 6 months now with no issues.
  10. Been doing this for two years. Not expecting miracles, but am frustrated that my classifier always seems to be my worst stage. Really did not feel as though I was rushing the classifier yesterday and have no idea what I did wrong on that shot. FYI, if you watch the video it was the second target on the left side. Can't recall if it was the first or second shot on target. I have watched the video a dozen time from both cameras and can't see anything that looks odd.
  11. I am starting to use the 15 minute a day dry fire drill included in the forum, but I am doing really good in five stages and bombing the classifiers.
  12. I have no idea what the heck I am doing wrong in my classifiers. Mental block? This last weekend was a perfect example. I shot a pretty decent match. Placed 5th in L10 out of 12 shooters in my Division (2 Bs, 5 Cs, 2 Ds and 3 Us in the Division) . Even finished first on the final stage of the day (6 stages in the match). For the entire match I only scored two "D"s and one "Mike". Unfortunately that "Mike" was also a "No Shoot" and of course it was on the classifier. Shot the stage at the pace I knew I needed to shoot so I wasn't pushing it, but still ended up dropping a round about an inch low and into the no shoot on CM 03-04. Honestly, not sure if I pushed the shot or if I did not have a clear site picture but I knew right away I had screwed up. The bad shot was even on my strong side of the target array. Any suggestions on why the heck I can do really well throughout the match and consistently screw up the classifer? I am sitting around 33% on my ranking with my current scored range of 24% to 42%. Links to Youtube video with Go Pro and cell phone vid are uploading to Youtube now. http://youtu.be/4miYfSEWiu4 http://youtu.be/HFkuI0lXvbg
  13. "IMHO, the closest thing to a SA all steel pistol is a customized SP01 (or Shadow) with a trigger job and a short reset setup. You will have to start hammer down for the first shot, but all other shots will be taken in the Single Action mode. If you have a stage that requires you to load the pistol before starting, then you won't have to worry about it for that stage." I have come to the same conclusion. Going to get myself a SP01 and get it worked.
  14. Drop in price put me over the edge. Bought the sports and added the gel cups.
  15. Is it Production legal to change the SP-01's safety to a decocker?
  16. I have been shooting L10 and Single stack is up next (using the same pistol). Trying to prep for the next thing I want to get classified on and that is Production. Won't be shooting Limited or Open until California's magazine capacity laws change. Not willing to break the law for a sport.
  17. Am I reading correctly that the safety on the 75 SP-01 will leave the hammer in the cocked position? This effectively takes away the need for your first shot out of the holster to be a double action pull in USPSA. Trying to find an acceptable all steel production pistol for use in USPSA that can be purchased in California. The list is short. Would prefer a .40 so I don't have to buy another full setup for my reloading press (currently setup to reload .40), but if this is the only good option in my state I'll just reload a boat load of 9mm at a time and set everything back to .40 I guess...
  18. Although my question immediately becomes a moot point when I check the lovely CA handgun roster... it isn't on the list.
  19. Doing some looking and the CZ P-09 is on the production list. The description on the CZ website says the pistol is "shipped with decockers installed but can easily be converted to a manual safety with the supplied parts and instructions." If you change the safety from a decocker to a manual safety does that make the pistol not eligible for production?
  20. So other than a striker fired plastic pistol there are no SA pistols approved for Production?
  21. No single action pistol is legal for production. the cz75TS is a great gun for limited. Aren't striker fired pistols considered single action? Granted, I am not looking for a plastic striker pistol.
  22. Thinking about getting a production pistol (currently shoot 1911s in other classes) and trying to figure out what to get. Would like to get something all steel, single action only and as close to a 1911 quality trigger as possible. Any suggestions? I live in CA so it will also have to be on the Roster. Is the CZ 75 TS Production legal?
  23. Because every now and then you drop one of your mags in chewing gum, don't realize it and can't get it out of your mag pouch during the next stage so you have to skip it and grab the next one. Completely hypothetical of course.
  24. I have two Trojans (one inf .40 and one in .45). I can attest to the quality and have experienced their warranty dept. Amazing service with a one day turn around time when the barrel on a new pistol needed to be replaced (issue with the angle of the .40 feed ramp when trying to use 10 round magazines). STI is an excellent company.
  25. I ordered an EGW and sent it back. It had a very dull finish and did not look good on my hard chromed STI Trojan. The Wilson that I had installed had a much higher polish.
