  1. A couple of points: Yes, you can shoot 45 ACP without moonclips but it will not eject fired brass because they're rimless (that's why they use moonclips). So forget about 625s in SSR. For that purpose get the 38spc of your choice. I do not know about materials used, but the differences between the regular 625 and the JM are the grip (you may like it or not) the gold bead FS (you may like it or not) and the serrated trigger. I agree with the previous post. Look for a good used one (I recently bought a mint one for $450) and start building from there. That's how you'll save rather than buying the good for everything tool. You may have guessed it by now. No saving money in this sport !
  2. I've used both and feel the 19/66 will reload a little faster (just me perhaps, but there is less metal between cylinder holes although marginal) and feels more alive overall. Another vote for Chris at pistolpacking.com !!! Great products and better service !!!
  3. Thanks for all the replies, cannot wait till Sunday !!! How about my new avatar? That's me few years ago. Draw your conclusions... Julio
  4. Guys, just kidding! A shooting match doesn't scare me, my wife does. Looking forward to a new level of excitement, that's all.
  5. I'll be shooting my first match this coming Sunday at Guthsville in PA. I'm an accomplished IDPA shooter (I've accomplished....NOTHING !) and just love shooting wheelies. I'll be using my 4" 625 for now (can see a 5" in the near future). Just ordered a new cylinder release latch from Pinnacle in PA (I assume they are legal in USPSA, aren't they?) plenty moonclip holders, a fancy Speedsec holster, CR belt and that's it. According to the match director they'll be 7 stages (3 speed, 2 whatever, a long one and a classifier) They will also have a pure classifier in June. I'll not get classified until then, right? Opinions? Suggestions? It's so scary !!!
  6. I bought a 6in 686+ and had it machined for moonclips for a grand total of $425. Yes, I have one less shot but saved at least $400 which buys you lots of ammo.
  7. I'm also crossed eyed and wear progressive lenses. A mess! I'll try Calamity Jane's advice, meantime, is there anybody out there wearing "custom made" shooting glasses? I know the topic has been covered but cannot find it.
  8. Are CRs or SpeedSec holsters legal for ICORE comp? Rule book says it must cover the trigger guard area. Completely?
  9. Another vote for pistolpacking.com. Nice big pockets very handy for tactical reloads.
  10. Changing the topic slightly... I just saw a mint 25-3 LC at a decent price. How does the LC machined work with .45ACP ammo. Cons? Accuracy? Any advice?
  11. Achtung !!! The virus is spreading !!! Last Sunday at my local IDPA match in Easton, PA out of 41 shooters 5 were revolver shooters (all ESR) It felt great ! I haven't gotten into USPSA yet, the reason being that I've been checking the two clubs that hold USPSA matches close to my house in NJ, and looking at match results I noticed that ocasionally one or maybe two revolver shooters show up to either club. Is USPSA a little too intimidating perhaps? I would really love to get into USPSA to the point that I even bought a Glock 17 (awfully sorry guys) I compete for fun, yes, but I have not met anybody who plays a game to loose (well, maybe the NY Mets do) What I mean is: shooting in a class by myself will take a lot of the motivational aspect away from me. Unless you suggest something else.
  12. My English is limited enough and now you guys sound as if you're speaking Cantonese. Are there any videos or books which illustrate what you're talking about? Danke schen !
  13. OK, I've gotten one of this SpeedSec 5. It came only with three velcro strips, no instructions, tools, nothing else. How do I adjust this thing? Which tools do I need? HELP PLEASE !!!
  14. Good info!!! I believe IDPA should follow ICORE's rules for its SSR division allowing us to use factory ammo despite PF. Just a thought! Now, how hard are S&B's primers compared to Federal, Winchester, etc.?
  15. I'll have it done locally. Al Greco unfortunately is not in NJ but outside Pittsburgh, PA. As R112mercer observed shipping here or there is still shipping. rwmagnus: how much more difficult? like posting a reply to a thread only once? Just kidding !!! Thank you all for responding!!! Julio
  16. By the way, does the same principle apply to hammer mounted firing pins?
  17. I'll have the job done by a gunsmith as I'm barely capable of changing a light bulb. What happens is that around here, in the Soviet Republic of NJ most gunsmiths cater to law enforcement personnel, hunters and God knows who else. They take no chances! If you want something special you better tell them what and how you want it done. One gunsmith in particular has done few job for me and seems to be willing to go the extra mile. When I asked about extended firing pin I meant installing one in addition to bobbing the hammer in order to get more consistent ignition. Right? Thank you for your input, I appreciate it! Julio
  18. I've just purchased a 6in 7 shot 686-5 (frame mounted firing pin-no lock) in mint shape for $350 which I'm planning to use for ICORE.The reason I bought it is to save some money over a 627. I'll have converted to accept moonclips, change sights to the ones I like, decent trigger job and I'll be ready to go. Now: I've recently gotten a set of Vic's springs, tried them on my M13 and liked them a lot. Other than polishing internals and good lube, is there anything else that could be done to lighten pull a little more without sending it to Randy. Will bobbing the hammer help? Extended firing pin? Thanks, Julio
  19. Great idea ! Found a mint 686 6in 7 rnd. no lock for $350. + $100 moonclip conversion + $80 (FO front - Millett rear) + $40 Vic's spring set =$570. Still about $300 ahead of the 627 with the extra round. I'll save money for the future 9mm revo !!!
  20. I've found a mint G21 second generation at $425. Put it on hold while I decide. I've read many threads and it seems like this things shoots softer than any 1911. Is that right? I currently own a 1st Gen G17 which I love, so grip angle and all that negative stuff does not really bother me. Seriously considering it. I live in the Soviet Republic of NJ, so before one buys a gun should weight all the choices and make sure is getting the right one. For every handgun you intend to purchase you'll need a permit which takes anywhere from 2 to 4 months to get (in my town at least) By the way ArnisAndys: I'm rich indeed and handsome. I conmute two and a half hours a day and work 60 hours a week just to feel how normal people live. Just kidding !!!
  21. Yes, they must have sold it. I spoke to the guy. He'd have finished the auction had I agreed to pay $800 for it. I did not want the Super that's why I let it go. My question was: has anybody done business with this company before? He reserved a 627- 357 for me at $750. I wanted to gather some info before sending the money, that's all....
  22. They have a 627 38 Super at GB for $800 NIB. I've checked this dealer's website and they seem to have very good prices on almost every item. They have no previous transactions on GB. Has anybody ever heard of these people?

I'll be original! Shoot whichever you feel more confortable with. I think you are being missinformed about the PF issue. PF is measured from a gun with the longest barrel lenght allowed in the division, meaning that if one ammo doesn't make PF out of the 4in. but does make it out a 5in. then you are OK.
  24. Excuse my ignorance, but where can I find "Academy's" website or phone number. I've never bought ammo over the net but is getting rather pricey. Thanks, Julio
  25. Andy C: Which S&B 158 make PF out of your M13 3in., the FMJ or the LRN? Julio
