  1. Actually it is important to me. I was averse to the length and weight of the Titan. Not many people chiming in on the DR. I just ordered some shell loaders from Carbon arms last night. I do like the mounting setup on the Seekins, looks pretty slick.
  2. I don't know the weight of the bolt carrier, never really paid attention. I will have to compare it to one of my other AR's. I knew I could retrofit with an LMOS carrier if I wanted to. Somebody whom I trust in the gun business told me the rifle is made to Colt specs. I took that to mean a MPI HPT M16 bolt carrier (as an example).
  3. I have the Seekins and like it alot. That's not a thread protector in the photo; it's a knurled recessed jam nut that comes with the AR-ATC. Works great and easy to index. No shims or crush washer need. VERY helpful thank you very much!!
  4. I just got one and have one match and maybe 250 rounds through it. I have shot MOA with PMC Bronze but mostly that is 1.5 MOA stuff. I want to try some 69 gr and 75 gr handloads. It has run 100% so far. I was worried the trigger reset is too long but that did not seem to be an issue when "hosing." I like how crisp the trigger is. The gas block is new to me and seems to be pretty slick. I have it adjusted out 3/6ths and it is ejecting 10 feet or so. I am going to turn it down and not clean it for a while to see what happens. Starting in 3gun had a lot of costs associated with it for me, new Benelli (plus carrier loading port work), caddies, optic, mount etc. I looked at the JP Rifles. I know they are a top shelf product but the price of an upper is more than the CRP 18. My goals were to be competitive and have an adjustable gas block. You could retrofit a 3g with a adjustable gas block and I considered that. The colt comes with a H buffer. It looks like they put some thought into the design of the rifle. I plan on changing the comp. I was shooting a RRA 16 Carbine when I started this and the Colt is much nicer in competition. I myself am having trouble finding a lot of feedback on them. I am the 3rd shooter at my local match that has one. The other 2 guys are VERY happy with theirs. FWIW, my local dealer was unable to obtain one. He said they were all consigned. I used http://www.gunwatcher.com/Search/colt-crp-for-sale to locate the various rifles available. I ended up transferring in from Buds Gun Shop. I had the rifle 6 days after adding the rifle to my cart.
  5. OK I will try the Seekins. Anybody have any insight on the AR ATC vs the Gunsmith Fit ATC? The smaller lighter size appeals to me. Do I need a thread protector as they show or a shim kit? Thanks for all the responses so far and the help!
  6. I want to put a new brake on my rifle because I know the "colt competition" brake can be improved upon. I know the SJC Titan mitigates muzzle rise and well as rearward movement and it is the brake dujour at the moment . I don't enjoy being behind them (have not shot a rifle with one yet). I would guess that a less concussive comp would not mitigate rearward movement as well, and that is more OK with me. My goal is the sights not lifting off the target. The Seekins comp and the Dynamic Resistance brakes are appealing to me but there is little information on them. Any information would be appreciated. Yes I have been shooting 3 gun for only 4 months. Thanks!

    new to Glock?

I would install glock 3.5 pound connector. I assume that is legal since they come stock in some guns but I am not certain. It is easy to do yourself, just watch a couple of youtube videos on how to do it.
  8. Thanks for the reply MickB. Someone videod me on one of the stages during a Saturday match. Extraction was in the 8-10 foot range. I am going to close the gas block down a little during practice, not clean the gun, and see what it does. I will open it up some before a match until I get used to this new variable.
  9. Thanks for the replies gentlemen. This IS the level of information I was looking for
  10. I have a shelf about 20 inches off the ground the full length of my bench. It tightens up the bottom of the "cube." I presently have about twenty 25# bags of lead shot on the bottom shelf and that does not hurt either. I also do cross members glued and screwed below every metallic press. I use a lot of glue to tighten up the rigidity of the bench, screws and bolts allow movement. I anchor to the studs in the adjacent wall wherever possible with 3.5 inch screws. I had a hard time seeing your bench. The picture was oversized for me. I have used once and still have it installed on one of my presses a mounting plate like this to increase rigidity: http://www.rcbs.com/downloads/instructions/AccessoryBasePlateInstructions.pdf You would not necessarily need that plate, but some scrap steel or aluminum integrated into the setup will increase rigidity.
  11. I recently purchased a Colt CRP rifle with a Wilde chamber. I did search google about this and it looks that the primary difference is the freebore is shorter to facilitate more accuracy. I have traditionally used a small base sizer die to reload for my AR's. I have been heavily influenced by my Sierra manual in this regard, specifically the chapter on loading for gas guns. I am thinking since I will not shoot new brass (when I reload) and more than likely will not know where it was shot, I will continue to use the small base sizer die. When you dig in to this, standard reloading dies do not resize to SAAMI spec but close to it, the small base dies get closer. Perhaps there is an appreciable accuracy gain with a standard sizing dies, but I don't think I can exploit that while running a 4x or 6x optic. I have Googled this issue and a lot of guys are saying they use whatever 223 die they have on hand and their AR's are running fine, mostly that is. I have seen small base sizer dies fix reliability problems in an AR. It looks like JP recommends the Dillon carbide full length sizing die in their rifles cut with a Wilde chamber. I have heard the Dillon is tighter and I have heard the LEE is tighter as well. http://www.jprifles.com/instructions/Rifle/JPCG-223.pdf I would be curious to hear what various opinions are on this. There is not a lot on the Widle chambers on this forum. Thanks in advance!
  12. I am a new CRP 18 owner (new 3 gun shooter). I adjusted my gas block yesterday (ambient temp about 80) to the minimum setting where it would reliably lock open on the last round. I fired over 20 one round shots confirming the reliability. Per the instruction sheet included with the rifle, I opened the gas 2 additional 1/6th's. I have about 180-200 rounds through the gun at this point. Is this recommended adjustment working reliably for you? Can you comment on running the gun when it gets dirtier or the ambient temp gets colder? Thank you in advance for your replies!
  13. If you pull a bullet that has been run through the FCD, does it create something that looks like a cannelure on the bullet or is it the bullet left unmarked?
  14. Is that you can drift it. I had to drift the sight appreciably to the right on my M2 (still shoots high don't care though). The rear sight barely sticks up and I only "see it" when I aim a slug like a rifle. I had mine done by C-Rums and when it was there I had a mid bead installed to try both setups. The mid bead is coming off.
  15. Moving the rear sight to the right would compensate/correct for a gun that hits to the left of POA. Your right. I believe the red wine got me last night!
  16. Where Clays really shines is in the 12 gauge light target load arena. Without any data to back it up I would say it is easily in the top 3 propellants for clay target shooters. It is one of my favorite propellants for that. I have an 8 pound unopened keg of it in my reloading room and a partial but I am not using it for pistol but I would if I had too. I too found it to "spike" quickly as well.
  17. I had not purchased a new Glock in a couple of years. I brought one home today and was doing the "package" I put on a competition gun when I noticed the bottom of the grip was different. It is missing the semi-circle cutout at the front of the grip. Anyone know why this change was made? This is a Gen 3 gun. The end of the trigger bar has a Y shape now where the trigger spring connects too. I am happy to report there was no dimple on the trigger bar either.
  18. Are you talking about the spring leg on the slide stop? I think the shoulders where the pin diameter drops is the detent point for the pin (for lack of a better term) in the locking block. If any of the parts is out of spec I could see some walking. I happened to get a new G34 today and had it apart. Hopefully my first foray into attaching pics will work on this forum. I wish it automatically resized the pic but...
  19. As long as your not near the edge I would not worry but .4 grains is a lot. I would start getting nervous about .2 grains. It must be the propellant. I have used the Lee Auto Disk and it was more accurate for me. I was metering Power Pistol and Unique.
  20. I would order and install a new locking block, OE pins and probably a new slide stop. I am doubtful worn out polymer would allow the pins to walk. I think the locking block should be the ticket. If it continued to have the pin walk out, I would return the gun to stock configuration and send it to Glock and see what they will do. I suppose you could get creative with some type of adhesive but I have only used adhesives on the slide (specifically on sights).
  21. This is off the top of my head so do your homework. The parent case for the 243 is the 308. Forming 243 brass can be accomplished by running the 308 brass through a 243 resizing die. I was advised to anneal the case mouth prior to this operation and I did so because it is simple. What I cant remember is if the case neck will be a little short or long. I actually did 308 to 7mm-08. At any rate, you should be able to load it and shoot it after forming it.
  22. I may be new at this but am up to speed enough to know that IS my answer. Thanks!
  23. Hey guys: I am going to send my Benelli M2 off to be worked on and have questions about a couple of things. I see no reason today to load an extra round on the carrier when I have a +9 tube. I dont run open and suspect I never will (I don't know what the division capacity is for Open). Maybe there are other benefits from running a carrier that has modified in this manner? The issue that is kind of stumping me, and I did search here and Google, is throating the barrel on a M2. My gun was new this week but has run all the 3 dram Winchester and Federal 3 dram bulk stuff I have run through it (>200 rounds). I am thinking it is not broke so I don't want to fix it. Is this a wise modification for some reason. I am bigger on shooting than cleaning if that matters. I know to run it wet. Thanks in advance for your advice!
