  1. If you stay till saturday evening you can see the results. If you must leave early, then you get to wait till they get posted. Maybe next year someone who is there on Saturday can take a digital picture of the finals and post them somewhere.
  2. In my rifle (20" JP), I have found both the Hornady 68gr and Sierra 69gr will give 1/2 moa results. I have used both AA2520 and Varget with the 69gr with great results. With the 68gr, Varget is by FAR the best performer. I had horrible results with 2520 and the 68gr heads.
  3. Its Monday and I am at work rather than shooting so I am in a rather foul mood. That said, post his name so he can be ridiculed by all!
  4. Most people do not load lead for use in 9mm. If you do load lead, then be sure to NOT switch back and forth between lead & jacketed in the Glock. As for JHP or FMJ, that is pretty much a personal preference based on bullet brand, bullet shape, smoke issues, accuracy, range rules, etc. I always prefer an enclosed base so I use JHP. For a 9mm load, I prefere a 147 gr JHP. In your gun, the best load (IMHO) would be about 3.4 gr of universal clays at about 1.1 OAL. In my gun (beretta vertec), I use 3.5 gr of VVN320 @ 1.085 OAL. Have fun.
  5. www.blade-tech.com. The picture on the main page is that of a sig 228 or 229 in a dropped & offset. This is by far the best holster for USPSA production division and is legal for women only in IDPA.
  6. the NE championship 1st weekend in May is in Cortland, NY. Best match I attended last year!!
  7. For a State/Section IDPA match: 9-12 stages. 135-180 rounds 1 day format** **Actually I prefer a 1/2 day shooting format. Generally speaking, I will NOT attend a multi-day match unless the term National Championship is involved. And if anyone is questioning whether a quality match can be shot in a 1/2 day format, I would suggest shooting the NE Championship at Cortland, NY in May. They run 10 stages in a 1/2 day format and it is GREAT!!!
  8. Anyone have a URL for a Scott Warren webpage or a URL with information about his handgun sights. thx.
  9. As for the SIG and the gun sitting too high in the hand: I was the first production GM and to get there I used an OLD Sig 226 that I bought used. The trigger and custom sights (.090 front & .110 rear) were done by EGW. I used Blade-Tech DOH and Blade-Tech mag pouches. I probably still be shooting the Sig EXCEPT that for me, my right thumb nearly always holds the slide stop down preventing slide lock. For IPSC this is probably not a big deal because you should never be running a 17 round gun dry. But for USPSA and the 10-round limit, there are times that you actually plan to run the gun empty. It is even more important when shooting IDPA to have a gun that goes to slide lock when empty. Now if a 226 were made with a smaller slide stop and a grip that somewhat enclosed it.......hmmm
  10. Eric: You are supposed to translate what I typed into what I meant to type! Obviously I meant to type "Sig sits too high in the hand" rather than "too low in the hand"
  11. The original post said IPSC. If the game in question is truly IPSC, then much of the fabulous trigger work being done on Glocks, Sigs, LDAs, XDs, etc in hte US, is not valid for this decision.
  12. For IPSC (NOT USPSA): Glock 17 compare/contrast to Sig 226. Capacity is a wash: both can get 17. Of course the Sig needs an aftermarket mag. Sight radius is a wash. Reliability is a wash. Out of the box factory accuracy is a point for the Sig. Price is a point for the Glock. OEM sights availability is a point for the Glock, but Sig sights are finally becomming available. Reloadability is a point for the Sig. I still believe that the SIG is a fantastic gun to reload. Grip is a personal thing. Does the Glock bite you hand? Does the Sig sit too low in the hand. Slide stop position is a wash. I rarely lock back either the 226 or the Glock when I run the gun dry. For many, trigger is the real question.... Would you rather have a heavy LONG first shot pull followed by a relatively light and short follow-up shot. -- or -- Would you rather have the same short heavy shot each time? By heavy, I mean the IPSC mandated 5lb pull. have fun
  13. As far as match format goes: I prefer to shoot an Area/State match in 1 day. Actually I prefer 1/2 day format. Thankfully, in the NorthEast where I live, all big matches are traditionally shot in either 1/2 day or in 1 day. As for Area matches in 2003: The 3,5,7,8 (of which I attended all) were each shot in 1 day. Each match directory can put on an Area or State match with any shooting schedule that they want. It is the shooters' choice whether to attend or to not attend and at least for me, the shooting schedule is a large factor when considering whether or not to shoot a match. Side note: The 2004 Area 6 is a two day (Sat/Sun) match, but the match directory allows a shooter to shoot the complete match on Friday along with the match staff. Obviousily I will be shooting the A6 this year -- on Friday.
  14. Sounds like fun, BUT an Area match that you must shoot over 3 days is just not feasible. When you add up 3 nights in a hotel, 3 days worth of eating out, air fair, car rental, days of lost work, and four days away from my family, the match just gets too expensive. A multi-day nationals I can justify, but a 3-day Area match is unfortunately something many of us must pass on.
  15. If holstered, your hands can basically be anywhere but on the gun. Most people start with the muzzle touching the table. Yes, the gun is in a safe mode (safety on or hammer down). With a little practice, your first shot can get about .15 to .25 better than from a draw. If you haven't shot this match before, practice counting shots. It is best to not run the gun dry. It is weird to start with 9 in the mag and 1 in the tube, and then reload to 10 round mags. Each stage typically has 29 pieces of steel (sometimes 28). If you miss once, you don't have to do a second reload. If you miss twice, you are doing a second reload. A few years ago, a steel left standing cost 3 seconds but too many of us figured out that if you ran the gun dry on the last shot, it was better just to take the miss. Now the miss penaly is 5 seconds, so a steel left standing really hurts. And don't forget your shotgun! Fun to see how fast you can knock down 5 poppers at 12 yards from a low ready. Last year, the winning time was 1.42 seconds!!
  16. Leave production and Limited-10 alone! Especially for production, if the capacity limit is changed to the IPSC model, MANY production guns suddenly become totally uncompetitive. Lets start with every 40sw that is being used in production. Then we can easily discount any mid-sized 9mm which includes Glock 23s, Sig 228, Sig 229, and a host of others. The bottom line would end up being: if your production gun holds anything less than 16, you are SOL. If you really want to be competitive, your 9mm really needs to hold a minimum of 17, preferrably 18, which limits the pool of valid production guns even further!! At least at this point, production won't be F'ed with for another 3 years. Hopefully at that point, the AWB ban will be history, and the BOD will still recognize the benefits of the 10-round divisions.
  17. Same thing happens when I try. Seems that idpa's web site is FUBAR.
  18. My method is not too scientific. First I use an undersize sizing die (LEE undersize or Redding) which insures that the case wall holds the bullet and NOT the crimp. With the FCD I insure that the bell from the powder die is removed. I then adjust the FCD till I remove the "squareness" off the brass lips. Essentially, all I am doing is crimping the brass enough to avoid any feeding problems.
  19. I don't know where that match with those clips was held, but those types of stages are NOT at all common for any of the matches I shot in 2003. And that includes the A3,A5,A7,A8,Factory Nats, Mid Atlantic, and Summer Blast. Don't get me wrong, I love to shoot some hose fests as shown in those clips, but NONE of the matches I shot last year had any stage which even came close the the hose fests that Blake shot on those clips. The best matches have a good mix of speed & accuracy. In my opinion, matches should avoid being too heavily weighted towards either speed or towards accuracy
  20. For IPSC I use the Blade-Tech Dropped & offset. For IDPA, I use the belt slide holster with a Tek-Lok. Both holsters are straight drop. Kydex holsters will definately wear the finish of your gun, especially if it is a traditionally blued slide like a beretta, but the speed and consistency of kydex is worth it.
  21. www.obcats.com - 3-gun match in oct 30-31 2004.
  22. Very expensive, but worth every penny! If you use different heads for the same caliber, it is a must have!
  23. This is an amazing personal question. Even the top shooters cannot agree. * Sevigny uses a plain black square .100 front and a rear that is at least 150. * Last year I saw Jarrett using a plain black .100 front. In the 4 years, I have seen him using a .090 square front, a .090 "stepped" front and a .100 square front. I have no idea what his rear is. * Leatham uses a Dawson fiber front (probably .090 to .100) * BE's sights are a .090 front and a .110 rear (at least I think they used to be) * Langdon swears by a fiber front that is around .100 and a rear that is about .125 * The last time I handled Strader's gun, I think he had a plain black .100 or so front and a .125 or so rear. erik warren: I don't think that the .125 rear is too wide for a .100 front. I think that the minimum difference between the front and the rear should be about .020 and yours is only .025 or so. Personally I like a .090 plain black square front and a .110 rear. I am trying a .120 rear for lower lighting indoor matches.
  24. what brass did you use previousily? is your gun set up for 38 Super or for a 38 Super Rimless variety (TJ, supercomp, armscore rimless)?
  25. Start at 3.5 gr VVN320 or 3.5 gr Universal Clays. 1.10 max aol. The VV seems bette with lighter slides and the Universal with heavier slides.
