  1. I believe in this case, the shooter was not running full tilt and had a 2 hand grip, was the gun up in a firing position?...I don't know. The stage had a dead space where you could not engage the paper targets you were approaching, but it was in a free fire zone, if this is where the DQ happened, how soon is too soon to have the gun up and ready. Its an interesting case, how strictly do we enforce the rules? Safety rules should always be black and white, but this one shows how gray they can be Here is a video of the stage. Yes its me shooting, yes I am that vain, but it may help people understand the stage http://youtube.com/watch?v=DesknwoMIaY
  2. You have to want to shoot "A"s and not think about anything else. If you are smooth, the speed will be there. I have struggled with this, seeing faster shooter with better times, try to keep up, I would drop to many points. Pulling off targets as I broke the shot as HSmith described. Last match I tried to just shoot "A"s It took me slightly longer, mainly because I took a long time with with my follow through. It was an eye opener on how fast you can go and still get the Alphas
  3. I was thinking of dropping the ball, my strong hand only shooting was definately lacking, I think if I had dropped the ball or it bounced outside the endzone, I would have like to think I would have left it, too much can go wrong as you are scrambling with your head down. I ended on placing the football on the ground as I came up to the corner
  4. Larry, I didn't see the incident, so I won't comment on it, but I was one of the RO's for the next stage, I just wanted to say that you took the DQ like a gentleman and it was nice to meet you
  5. Thats pretty cool Larry, I always seems that the tops shooter are always ready to help a up anc coming shooter.
  6. Congrats on making Master, always happens right before a Major.... so I've heard, see you at A7
  7. When I started in Open last year, I had the same issues. Alot of it was from trying to go to fast, thinking I could keep up with the fast guys by shooting faster. If I saw brown, I pulled the trigger. Sometimes I would get lucky and get good hits, sometimes I would miss all over the place. What I learn was that I needed to slow down my shooting but do everything else fast. Having visual patience and calling your shots is a must, it doesn't take any longer to do it, it just seems like it does when you try to shoot to fast. Dry fire practice will insure the dot is there everytime
  8. This is true. Mine just sneak out when I unload, show clear. I'm using a Brazos tuned ejector
  9. I have a new Bedell shorty in 38 SC as well. I know that this post has been posted a year ago, but I am curious or would want to know what the OAL for this load. Thanks 1.250 OAL, I am now running 115s, using 9.6gr to make 168pf
  10. Never.... I tried 9x21's 1050, its to easy, were is the challenge. I like to have to take my press apart every hundred rounds to readjust it, it keeps things interesting. Plus when I hit my press in anger, the soft metal and plastic parts are easy on my hand.... you won't get that with a dillon
  11. You must not have seen the results yet. But here is a Video of some of the stage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5o-3hPIAH8 other than stage 3, I shot more mikes than charlies, oh well, still had fun She seems to be getting into it and is already posting videos here for tips
  12. Gotta get the Wife an Open gun first. She is going to try a P9 this week.
  13. Dan, Even with a 18" barrel, the lower is still a registered SBR, so I still have to follow the ATF requirements no matter what the barrel length is. Jay... Nice shooting at Harvard yesterday.
  14. Yeah, it was a great match! I am looking forward to next year. I agree.. we need to get Supermoto to start playing with us more. I keep on forgetting to send in my ATF forms so that I can travel out of state with my rifle, I'll try to get it done this coming week. Let me know when the next rifle match is and I'll try to make it, I had a great time at the Harvard rifle match.
  15. Its weird that the bullet never left the case, was there an obstruction in the barrel? I'll be at Harvard on Sunday. They always come up with some great stages
  16. Congrats on the stage win. What do you think caused the failure? Over pressure round, metal fatigue?
  17. On the cone stage, when you shot the first set of steel, you went in to deep and then had to lean back to clear the barricade. One the field stage, move aggressive movement after the reloads, if you can, pick up targets coming into and while leaving positions
  18. Congrats on the win and the 20 years. For those who haven't met John, he is one hell of a nice guy, willing to go out of his way to help a new or experienced shooters. His tips and suggestion have helped me greatly. You are a great ambassador for the sport
  19. Dan, that has a great industrial look to it, looks awesome, can't wait to see it at a match
  20. Yelling out at the nationals doesn't compare to making comments to friends at local matches. And while I want to win every match I enter, I won't do it at the expense of having fun. I don't want to be the guy that stand at the back of the squad with a pissed off look, that is unapproachable. And nothing is better than having someone try to get into your head, then you take the stage. Don't think TJ doesn't make comments, he is a funny guy. I took a class with him and while he didn't make comments before we shot, he sure did afterwards. and you know what, it took the pressure off shooting infront of one of the greats.
  21. Same at our local matches, there is alot of mind game going on between a few of us. It all in fun and only done to those that can handle it. It usually a small back handed comment, like "hey, you're shooting great" or "you're winning the match". sometimes its a little more direct like having a someone say "no pressuse, don't screw up" right before you shoot shoot a classifier. But the thing is, if you asked which was the best way to shoot the stage, etc. everyone would give you good advice.
  22. It was good, worth every penny. It was alot to take in, I'm going to have to sort through my notes and take it one step at a time.
  23. I like the drill when trying a different load or different springs. I think its a good way to test your grip, stance and index. But I think there is alot better way to spend your time, efficiency in movement, getting on the next target.....actually you know what, since I will be competing against you this year.....only practice Bill Drill
