  1. Add me in to the "no" column. Until recently, I would have thought it would be a good idea for all staff at an event like nationals to have shot at least a couple local matches during the season. However, the situation on the other side of the world has had a major impact on my thinking. I won't make it to any matches this year, and probably only a handful next year. Depending on scheduling, I might not even have to worry about work getting in the way of working a nationals in 2009, even though I won't be shooting much ( much USPSA anyway, will probably be shooting a lot more than I will ever want to in other situations ). Of course, this will all be a moot issue unless I can find a reliable way to get my recert exam sent to me across the pond.
  2. I have put Dawsons on a couple of my longslide glocks, and have not had any overhang with the front sight. There is enough room between the cutout and the front sight hole that you don't have to worry about it.
  3. Add another club in to the embeded RO category. With usually 8 stages, and anywhere from 60-90+ shooters, we still make sure there is either a certified RO with each squad. RO's are given a "RO walk-thru" prior to the shooter's meeting, so everyone is on the same page to run the COF's.
  4. It looks like the reloading recipies have already been covered, but if you need ammo in a pinch, Winchester white box 165gr does about 180ish, and Blazer 180's run approx 183ish through my stock 35 barrel. Have not had any issues at all with the power factor being too much for the gun.
  5. Unfortunately, she will be sitting this one out. She will be there, though, doing her best to keep everyone in the halloween spirit.
  6. Heck, by that time, we will be an old married couple, almost like you... only not quite as old. It is almost a month away.
  7. We got ours in Michigan today. All set for them to go back, too.
  8. Actually, you are wrong there. I only have two non-stock parts on my production gun. Dawson front sight, and one spring. The rest is pure factory. Next your going to say there is nothing stock about a stock car that goes in circles all day long.
  9. The stages for the August match are posted on the CCRC web site. There will be 8 stages, with a minimum round count of 179.
  10. I have no problem with having to win, in order to WIN. It just seems that the folks that are whining about matches that have payouts for wins, are complaining because they don't get enough for the division win with the payout for the class winners. I know you didn't start at the top, so how many class wins did you get on the way there, and out of those, how many trips to the prize table/checks did you get out of it? Or didn't you go to any majors that had prize tables/payouts until you got your GM card? Again, if you don't like the way prizes or whatever are distributed at a match, run your own the way you want it ran, and see what happens.
  11. I would sign off on that in a heartbeat. Looks like we may actually agree on something. Match staff should definately be a priority for the donated "toys"
  12. I never stated that GM's (or anyone else for that matter) live in some magical land where they can shoot for free all day long. Nor did I say that sponsorships were just handed out willy nilly to everyone that gets there percentage over 95%. Even if a shooter does manage to get an equipment sponsorship, that saves them roughly 25-50% at least on the equipment. So, for a $3,000 gun, they only pay $1,500. I could easily pay my way to two nationals including travel and entry fees for that savings. When I used to compete in indoor archery tournaments, they even had a class system. It wasn't as complex as USPSA's, but it worked, even with possible sandbaggers. There shooters were broken down into Pro, AA, A, B, C, and if I remember right, D. To get a classification, you had to shoot at least one minor area match ( based on what part of the state you live in, not like our area matches), and you were all set for the major state, section, and national matches. If you still have heartburn over the prize distribution after avoiding matches that don't do it the way you want them to, go one step further. Hold your own level II or III match where you can set the prizes up however you want. See what kind of result you get that way.
  13. According to the USPSA website, there are 299 GM cards issued, and 1226 M's. Of course, some of these are GM's or M's in multiple divisions. At ANY major match large enough to have a cash payout, these would be the shooters to take the top 3 positions of each division, with the exception of possibly revolver, where there are only 36 M's and GM's. Many, but not all, of these top shooters are also sponsered shooters; with at least one source to assist with match fees, ammo costs, travel expenses, etc. With strictly awarding just the top, you are basically awarding those that already recieve some benefit from being at the top level. The majority of shooters will not ever achieve a division win at a major. I do not see the issue with awarding class winners at these matches some kind of payback. Remember, the checks for the division winners are written out of the entry fees from that 7th out of 10 D class shooter, or 2nd out of 7 B classer. No matter what classification system is used, those who desire to will find a way to work it to their advantage. Same thing with the handicap system used in bowling and golf. It seems that alot (not all, as there are a few exceptions) of the people complaining about rewarding the class winners, or even having classes at all, are just upset that someone else is getting "their" stuff at the prize table, or some variant of that theme, as they are already towards the top of the results list. It would be interesting to find out how many of those who are complaining now took advantage of or were given the benefit of the current system when they were on the way up. Every major match I have been to publishes the prize policy ahead of time. If you don't like the way they are distributed, take a stand. Don't shoot that match.
  14. If you are Military/LEO check out CMP in Detroit, or CMP and Michigan Police Equipment in Lansing. I think (but not sure) EMT's/firefighters are also eligible for the discount Glock has. Otherwise, check out Northwest guns, The Firing Line, or Top Gun.
  15. At the risk of drifting this thread, comments like this amaze me. Just because some folks only do a few modifications to their blaster, (sights, grip tape) they think nothing else should be allowed. Please explain what the practifal difference is between the action work that is allowed by the rules, and grip tape and sights as allowed by the rules. None of those are "factory," so what is the deal? The trigger alone will not make the difference between winning and losing. You still need to be able to press the trigger without moving the sights off the target. Heck, after Nationals, I'm dropping the dreaded 8# connector into my old G17, setting it up the same as my duty gun, and trying a few matches that way. I think it's pretty safe to say that the difference will not be too great from what I could with my 34 or 35 with full race gear. Ok, stepping down from my soap box now.... Good looking out on this one, Gary. It is nice to know some on the BOD actually listen to the membership.
  16. Then why haven't you done the same for the Blast yet, then? Hmmmm?
  17. My home club doesn't have a payback, other than the chance to shoot a great local match with 7 stages. Only $20 for non-club members, $15 for club members, and $10 for R/O's. We also have a division championship per month, with plaques/ribbons going to class winners. So far, we have averaged 70-75 shooters per match, with 91 at the last one we had.
  18. Well, it's those darn lazy stats folks. If they would just quite hanging out at Spag's for so long after the match, they'd probably be done at a reasonable hour. Oh well, it is difficult to find good help these days.
  19. Well, it took me a while, but I finally got this photo off my phone and onto my puter. It looks like there was some kind of problem with one of the competitors vehicles, or they just didn't want any scratches on it. Either way, sure made for some amusement for a few people the first day of the match.
  20. Sub-minor? ME?? Ain't got no wimpy loads here. Same for the ones that will be chrono'ed, too.
  21. Well, special classifier is this coming Sunday at Livingston. 6 classifier stages in all!!! You will be more than classified before the Summer Blast. Jeff Hopefully she will get a holster to use for a little while by then. I do know someone is shipping her one to use for the time being. I was totally impressed with her shooting at 25 yards today. I don't think I have seen her shoot that well with her glock at that distance before.
  22. You mean he won't be leaving after things are done Friday? Oh, man. It's going to be a long weekend then.
  23. Exactly. And, since the frames are identical, why would it be unethical to do so? Ruling from Amidon effective 3/8/05 states "This clause is not meant to prohibit exchanging external parts from one approved model handgun to another approved model handgun. Exchanging external parts from one approved model handgun to another approved model handgun from the same manufacturer is allowed, providing that the parts are original manufacturers parts and offered in their catalogs or on their handguns that otherwise meet division criteria."
  24. BINGO!!! Well, Jeff, its a good thing I don't use my department issued weapon to compete in production division then. After all, it has aftermarket sights and a hogue grip sleeve. But it does have an 8# trigger on it. I give all of my (and the Mrs') competition Glocks the same trigger work, regardless of the division I shoot them in, for the simple reason we like the cleaned up trigger. I do know there will be two less production shooters next year if the minimum pull is set. And, since you said something about the B/C/D shooters, which we are, that would be two less at your matches, at least in that division.
  25. The personnel clerks at work are at it again! What I don't understand is why I know what their job is better than they do, when they are the one's doing it full time. I am sure that there are a few out there somewhere (maybe) that know what they are doing, but the ones I have to deal with are like rocks with eyes.
