    Beer Good!

You conna-sewars are killin' me. I don't drink beer as much as I used to but, I, like Tightloop opined, prefer any beer....cold. I know, just another redneck that prefers Bud. Actually, Tequiza (a tequila flavored beer) is my favorite closely followed by Corona Extra. (Although the San Miguel I drank when I was overseas was pretty good) Just displaying my redneck palate. dj
  2. Those that can't swim, usually don't like the water. Now after my poor attempt at humor... I think everyone has seen these types, they sit on the sidelines, berating or making snide remarks about everything. It doesn't matter where they are or what they are watching. If it isn't what THEY are into, or what THEY are doing, it's wrong or stupid. Just my opiniated observations, dj
  3. Between my revolver and Limited gun, I have loaded >13,000 this year. Sure seems like I would be a GM but I'm only a mediocre "C" class, (but pedalling toward "B") dj
  4. Why do I shoot? I can't give a single answer to that. I love the smell of burning powder. I love to be able to watch a .45 bullet go downrange when viewed at the right angle. I love to see that steel fall. I love the comeraderie (sp) of being around shooting people. I like to win, but I LOVE to be competitive. This hobbie/obsession/way of life has let me mingle with some of the greatest folks around. In the casting of bullets and the reloading and shooting, I have found something that I can do that releases the tensions of the day or week. I am beginning to enjoy the mind-game of shooting. I have really learned how to shoot targets one at a time and not get so durn tense at the line. I'm thru rambling now, but this is why I shoot. OBTW, I enjoy bagging the game or boating the fish, but there are times when sitting next to a tree in the sunshine on a cold morning without even loading your gun, or sitting in the boat without even baiting your hook cannot, IMHO, be beat. just my thoughts, dj
  5. Someone once told me to remember the first letter of "texas star" and use the "T" to remember to start at the top. Riiight. The first shot goes at the top and then the chase is on!!!!! I eventually beat it into submission and cannot remember having to change magazines too often. (you would think 18-20 rounds were enough) oh well, If I ever get that GE mini-gun bolted on the bumper of my truck....... All seriousness aside, my main problem is being in too big of a hurry. My goal is always five shots for five plates. I just hate waiting for them to be still. But if I do, I can usually clear it without too many misses. FWIW Dennis
  6. JD, I load .40 and .45 in both lead and jacketed on a 550B and have found that the Dillon bullet seating die is very forgiving. I mean if you just get it close, the die will align the bullet as it seats it. The beveled cone at the entrance of the die does the trick just like Gun Geek said. Occasionally, I will crunch one, but that is due to operator error, not the dies or the bullets. and BTW, don't be afraid to have your powder die bevel the mouth of the case sufficiently. Open it up until you feel comfortable that the bullet will sit reliably on it. Just my ramblings Dennis
  7. MIne is a S&W 610 w/ 4" barrel. I use if for both IPSC and IDPA. I use a blade-tech kydex holster so I can stay legal for IPSC and IDPA. I am considering a speed holster and it seems that CR is the going brand. My belt is a genaric inner/outer velcro/leather belt I have four standard moonclip holders on my belt and two of the new (to me) twin moon clip holders. These things are great and I am curious to see how they hold up over time. They can be found at TK custom So I carry 48 rounds to the line with an initial load in my hand for a total of 54 rounds. Gun mods 1. Chamfered and polished chargeholes 2. Smooth that trigger action up. (Jerry M's video says several thousand rounds will do it, but he shows you how to do it in a couple of hours with honing stones.) 3. Take a fine file and smooth the edges on the outside of the barrel where it extends into the frame in front of the cylinder (the forcing cone area). This is just a smoothing cut to keep the barrel from cutting your fingers when you open the cylinder to eject rounds. 4. Buy the Miculek spring kit, but IMHO keep the trigger return spring at original strength. 5. Get grips that are comfortable for YOUR hands. I am learning to manage the recoil from a 200 round hour or two at the range, but initially, the recoil can be intimidating with major power factor loads. I like the Shooters Connection range bag. Peltor tac 7 electronic ear muffs just my humble collection of gear Dennis
  8. Merry Christmas and have an enjoyable vacation. As for the time off from the internet. How are you going to feed the addiction? My wife and I went to Florida during Thanksgiving for two weeks with no computer and I thought I was going to go Bonkers!!!!!! Happy Holidays Dennis
  9. Here is how to make my Grandma's favorite Christmas Cookies... Christmas Cookie Ingredients: 1 cup of water 1 tsp baking soda 1 cup of sugar 1 tsp salt 1 cup of brown sugar lemon juice 4 large eggs 1 cup nuts 2 cups of dried fruit 1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Turn on the electric mixer...Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar...Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still OK, try another cup ... just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit, Pick the frigging fruit off floor... Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who giveshz a sheet. Check the Jose Cuervo. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher. CHERRY MISTMAS
  10. For my limited gun, I would stick with my STI 5" with the Briley top end. For Revolver I can't make up my mind if I would go with a S&W model 625 or stick with my 610. Of course if I could get that GE minigun to mount on the bumper of my truck...... Dennis
  11. Thanks guys, It's an average of the best, not just the single best. Dennis
  12. hey folks, I'm badly confused, but I know you guys and gals will enlighten me!!!! It has been shown how hhf can be determined if you know which numbers to manipulate. This has been explained in this forum and I think The Italian Stallion (is that right?) will usually calculate them for you if you give your time and score. But, could you not use the hit factor of a GM who has shot the classifier at 100% ? Shouldn't that be the hit factor all others are compaired too? I'm afraid the pizza I had for dinner last night kept me up thinkin' !!!!!!! Thanks, Dennis

    Toilet Paper

I agree, but my wife informs me that "my" idea of how it should be is upside down. Guess who wins.
  14. No apology required, thanks for responding sir, and to those who offered tips and suggestions, thanks so very much. Sometimes I get to reading so much that I fail to acknowledge the assistance received from this fine forum. And to BE for allowing it to happen Dennis
  15. Awesome photography Dennis
  16. 38super, Thanks for your encourgaging remarks. "watch and learn. Or, read this and may other 1911 related forums to gain 'tuning' knowledge if you wish to 'self medicate' your shooting toy. Otherwise, all these posts do him no good." Lest I show my behind or sound ungrateful to those who have offered helpful suggestions, I'll shut up. OBTW, You might have asked how the gun is running. It's fine. Dennis Jarrell dajarrel@hotmail.com
  17. I make a point of watching shooters at a match pick up their gun from a barrel or table. Invariably, someone will push their gun down on the extended mag release while grabbing the gun, shoot one round and then utter forth with the famous last words "oh sh#!" and proceed to grab another mag. It sure can screw up a good day!!! Dennis
  18. Yeah, What Team GE said. Pressure has to drop prior to the action recycling. As to what causes the "equal and opposite reaction" of recoil, I think the relativley small weight of the projectile (as compared to the reactive push of the escaping gasses) and the short time interval between the occurance of these two events (movement of projectile and gas leaving barrel), actually become what can only be percieved as one event. I think the mechanical cyling of the gun action is what sticks in our mind. The action of either shotgun is probably still cycling long after the projectile is far downrange or perhaps even on target. Which leaves us back where we started on which gun, Benelli or Remington, cycles fastest. Forgive the interjection of my humble opinion!!!! Dennis
  19. What EricW said, Putting the fact that i'm not a pistolsmith aside, that chamber is butt ugly. I think that one slipped by a sleepy QC man, FWIW Dennis
  20. I may have to grow old, but... I refuse to grow up!!!!! Dennis
  21. Other than our esteemed host, who are the twelve who hold the Combat Master title as described by gumshoe. After reading the course of fire, it would seem they are indeed masters!!!!! Dennis
  22. I shoot with a gentleman that has quite a hearing problem. He makes the RO aware of it when he goes to the line. If the RO holds the timer within 6-12 inches from the guys left ear, there is no problem. I guess my point is unless the guy is moving (usually not but can be dictated by course design) the RO should be real close anyway. As for steel. I love it and I hate it (cause i miss so much). Every couple of matches I try to set up what I call "steel city." Like the previous poster, I scatter everything we have (two stars, freestanding plates, regular and mini poppers) around a big bay, draw a fault line in the dirt and tell them to shoot 'em as they see 'em. IMHO reactive targets are appealing to shooters because they can 'see' what they are doing. Besides, to some, steel can be downright evil FWIW Dennis
  23. Brian, I find the tub/brush just fine at home, but like Sixgun said, a small tube would be nice to take to a match. Dennis
