  1. Yeah, I prefer N320 or TiteGroup but it is getting hard to come by. I really don't think the issue was fouling though. I was only 75 rounds into the match on a freshly cleaned gun when it started to act up. I cleaned it today and it really wasn't that dirty. I couldn't find anything mechanically wrong but I am far from being a gunsmith.
  2. Temp started out around 40 but had warmed to 55-60 when the problem started. Sounds like maybe I just need to oil it up a bit more.
  3. I did not oil the rails but it was cleaned with Frog Lube the day prior so they should have been plenty slick. I have found the HS-6 to be a little dirty but only 3 stages into a match after cleaning seams unlikely that grit would be the issue. Any other thoughts?
  4. The Aftec has already had one spring removed. Not sure of the # on the recoil spring as it came on the gun.
  5. OK guys need some input here to help me diagnose some issues with my STI Edge 40 Cal. I am running an Aftec extractor and a Recoil Master guide rod/spring in the gun. I got the gun used and have put approximately 700 rounds through it but I don't know the total round count on it. I am firing 180gr Berry's over 7.0 gr of HS-6 (all rounds chamber checked). The gun is completely cleaned after each match/practice session with Frog Lube. The problem I am having is, after my 3rd stage of a USPSA match today, the gun started to cycle "slowly". It would eject the spent case but seemed to struggle pushing the next round into battery. The issue occurred with 10-12 rounds fed from two different magazines. It would often stop 1/4 inch or so shy of closed and I would have to push the slide the remaining distance. Thinking that if might be an ammo issue, I switched to some GA Arms factory ammo for my next stage and I also put a few drops of oil on the barrel hood and top of the barrel. While this did improve the situation, it did not eliminate it. The issue occurred twice more in the next two stages. One of the RO's suggested that it may be an extractor tension issue? Would love to hear any thoughts from the group on what the issue may be.
  6. Has anyone seen a Ruger Challenge schedule for 2014 yet? The web site hasn't been updated yet and I am hoping to start laying out my match schedule for the year.
  7. Great info guys. Thanks for all the feedback. Can't wait to check a few of these places and enjoy shooting in some warmer weather for a change. My last few matches in Georgia have been pretty cold and soggy.
  8. I shoot in Georgia heat and humidity. I wore muffs for years but finally broke down and had some custom molded and filtered plugs made by a local company called Premear. It was the best $125 I have spend in my shooting career.
  9. Will check out both of those. I'll have my weekends open and plenty of ammo so hopefully there will be some matches to join in. As for the scientogists, as long as they don't lynch United Methodists, I think I will be OK.
  10. Sign up for the mailing list with MGM Targets and wait for the specials/sales. You get great quality at pretty reasonable prices from them.
  11. I used to shoot at the WMA ranges and witnessed the exact same problems. I even witnessed a guy put a round down range after a cold range call and shooters had walked 10 feet in front of the line. He claimed that his hearing aid batteries had gone dead and he had not heard the call. I finally just joined one of the clubs (PCSC) and never looked back. Stay safe.
  12. Howdy ya'll, My job has me spending the next 3 months working in sunny Clearwater, FL and I'm bringing my toys with me. Any suggestions on where I can shoot USPSA, steel, or other interesting matches near there? Will bring my STI Limited gun for sure but might bring my complete 3 gun rig if there are any matches coming up.
  13. Kershaw Speedsafe 1980. It is with me ALWAYS along with a Sig 238.
  14. The NRA lists 3 rules for gun safety 1. Gun pointed in a safe direction. 2. Finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. 3. Keep your gun unloaded until ready to shoot. These are great but I violated the little known 4th rule of gun safety. "Always close the safe door before your wife walks into the room and looks inside." Won't make that mistake twice.
  15. Waterproof footwear is a must. Also, don't forget to keep a clean dry towel and an oil/frog lube towel in your car for your gun and mags. Here in GA, I've literally had rust start to form on my gear on the drive home. Amazing how fast rust can form in this climate.

I have to disagree with most of the advice regarding 12 over 20. I teach a LOT of youth and female shooters and I find that most do better with the lighter barrel weight offered by the 20ga. For most of these shooters, the forward weight is a bigger issue than recoil. Take her to a gun store with a large selection and let her shoulder a bunch of different guns. Once she finds the one with the weight and size that SHE likes, let her put a few boxes through it, and then get someone to fit it to her.
  17. +2 on Gamaliel. Our gun club buys clays by the trailer load. They are also a great source for shotgun ammo. I order pallet loads of shotshells for our youth events and they will ship them on the same truck as the clays for next to nothing. Great service and prices.
  18. South River is a great club (and only an hour from my house). Can't wait to sign up.
  19. Glynnm45 - I just picked this up used so I have no idea what the PO may have done to it. Looked like it had been collecting dust for awhile.
  20. Tcon260 - I will definitely give them a call. I did not know there was such a thing. THX
  21. The detent ball is in place, it just seems the plate is settling into that ball a few millimeters to far forward.
  22. Looks like this press will be headed back to Dillon then for a little TLC. It looks like a well made press and I want to get it up and running smoothly. Thanks for all the feedback.
  23. Hey gents. Just tinkering around with the used XL650 I just picked up and I seem to be having a problem with the shell plate being out of alignment. It seems to be slightly too far advanced when it hits the detent ball and, as a result, is periodically crushing primers, getting them sideways, etc. It is also occasionally crushing the edge to the case at the belling station. I am attaching a picture of the primer seating station that I think will illustrate the issue. I've checked the Dillon manual and can't seem to find any way to adjust this. Anyone have this issue before or know how to adjust this?
