  1. interesting! MGM order just arrived at my office.....bringing one popper with clay flipper.
  2. If you decide you want to shoot something other than Tac-Optics/Tac-Scope/Tactical....make sure you know the rules for THAT match. My first big match, I did not pay close enough attention and was going to shoot Heavy Tactical/Heavy Optics. The match I was shooting allowed 9mm pistols to be used in that division and following the same pistol rules as the regular Tac divisions. I brought an FNP .45 expecting to download my mags to 8-10 rounds, when I could have brought my Glock with extended basepads. Another big match I considered shooting Heavy at, uses single stack .45 rules with 10 rd mags in the same division...if I had arrived with my 9mm, I would have been shooting .308 in the Tac-Optics division! I always try to look at a few main rules for the match, and specifics relating to the division I will be shooting. -abandonment rules (safe or empty, empty, empty chamber, shotgun empty chamber AND tube,...) -what types of shotgun shells can be used (#6 or #7.5 shot as biggest, 00 buck required over 0000, no low recoil slugs/buck in heavy, no high brass,...) -scoring rules on paper (A-zone or 2 hits, A/B-zones or 2 hits, 1 hit with .45 in Heavy,...) -pistol caliber allowed in Heavy division -mag length/capacity/type restrictions in my division (20/25rd in Heavy, 30rd/no limit in Tac, no drums...I had a 50rd X-Products drum for awhile, couldn't use it) -slings required? -chest rig allowed for shotgun shells? -max number of shotgun shells allowed in a gun at any time vs start? Maybe I need to plug my tube to that 8rd max for Blue Ridge! -......there are a lot of things to consider
  3. Wow, they are awfully proud of these, $60 for f/r and $30 is for just the front. Makes the zip tie idea even more appealing, especially if it will only be used once in awhile. I have one on my M2 and love it so far. I have the Noveske rear sling mount in my buttstock. $30 for the front mount is comparatively cheap considering its metal compared to the $25 matchsaverz I have on the forearm that is a piece of plastic! An added bonus i recently discovered when practicing for the Nordic/Gateway shotgun match coming up.....when shooting slugs and a wall type barricade is available, the GG&G mount on the left side is like a barricade stop! Not always useful for that, better never hurts to add an option when it isn't removing another function.
  4. On my private range, I have access to white plastic barrels from farming and use them as dump barrels. Those barrels can be standing straight up and the gun drops straight down into them, or I can mount legs to them and have the gun go in at a slight angle that still leaves the muzzle pointed at the ground but isn't as cumbersome when abandoning a weapon safely. For pistol....Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Dollar Store, Wal-Mart....they all carry little plastic trash cans that work fine. I either use them on the ground or screwed to the side of a dump barrel or barricade.
  5. Got in another case of low recoil slugs and low recoil buckshot, gonna grab another case of birdshot too........JUST IN CASE I need to reshoot every stage 10 times or something. Oh ya, and if someone is running short and needs some help, I'll have some to help out a little if needed. This weekend I am going to get the clay thrower out, set up my knockdown steel, knock the plates of my star, and practice reloads over and over and over again. Gotta hustle to make sur ei don't come in last because I don't have a super badass 31rd XRail integrated M2 like the big dogs. ;-)
  6. So how is this different than a Tuesday trip to the grocery store for you? socially acceptable went out the window a long time ago brother...just embrace it no rifle or pistol ammo.....unless you count my Glock 17 CCW with 3 17rd reloads and 2 33rd SHTF mags....the SWR Trident 9 suppressor will be there until July 5th and will stay safely in Missouri, as to not upset your state legislature. :-) PS.....you never know what can go down at a suburban Price Chopper! haha
  7. There might be a 30 +/- round stage with a "few" bonus targets I remember "come prepared for war with steel"........ CHALLENGE.................... .......wait for it.............. .....................ACCEPTED!
  8. A match to the west of KC has some odd abandonment rules in their matches....and one of the reasons I choose to drive 2.5 hours east instead of 35 minutes west for a match when they are both on the same weekend. Their rules are unloaded.....no safe/empty chamber...but 100% unloaded. That isn't all that bad, except with the Benelli, that means burning rounds into the berm (and they get upset about that), or tripping the lever and racking each shell out. god forbid you get a couple doubles....the unload time kills you! I watched a shooter get a match DQ for barreling a SAFE shotgun on a stage where you do NOT move forward of the barrel. The same stage was designed to DQ people. You started with a hot shotgun and 6-7 targets, had to empty your shotgun, barrel it....grab your rifle from a different barrel, insert mag, load it, shoot 5 targets, unload, empty chamber, barrel back to the same barrel, draw pistol, fire, unload, ground empty with no mag, grab the rifle AGAIN, load with mag AGAIN, shoot 5 more targets. All the loading and unloading was the dumbest thing I've seen in awhile. Unsure when I will go back for their matches again.
  9. These are expensive! Reset on them isn't bad at all. There is a locking pin that holds everything parallel to the ground, then the plates are hung in place just like a star. Reset may take 10-15% longer than a texas star since the rig does not move when placing targets on it. If your club has the dough for one of these, its a blast to shoot. If you are setting up a match that a lot of newer shooters are going to be at....make it a shotgun target instead of a pistol target. Even with a 5rd tubed Mossy500, this isn't that challenging of a target.
  10. I have been guilty of being unprofessional when being an RO....not mean or rude I hope, but I do joke around a good amount and I've gotten crude and unprofessional at times if there are no kids present. I've scaled that back as much as possible lately. As for rude or mean RO's....I've seen them in 3-gun events both big and small, though they weren't THAT bad (never shot USPSA, IDPA, or shotgun only matches before, and only 1 year of 3-gun so far!). There are a multitude of things that can contribute to that IMO. You have people who take a little responsibility too far and start to take too much ownership of "their stage," then they feel disrespected if you do something wrong on THEIR stage. You have people, that in general, do not have social skills...yet desire to contribute to a sport they like. <---these people aren't always trying to be a pain, they're just naturally not good with people. You also have the people who get tired of being whined to and bitched at when they are essentially working for free, they start off great and get soured by the same shooters that the rest of the RO's get soured by.......those who don't help reset, don't listen to the stage briefing then want to hear everything again WHILE someone else is shooting, or doesn't listen to the stage briefing then wants to argue that steel they looked past is somehow now a no shoot target that everyone has been shooting.....the list is endless. 99.99% of the shooters I have met are great, but the .01% I've met when RO'ing and shooting....I could see how they could rub some people wrong after awhile. When I see these people, I let their squad members get them in line for me........I just won't start a stage briefing unless ALL of the squad is up close and paying attention, and won't break for a walk thru until everyone confirms they understand the stage briefing. <---Not mean there, but it's the weekend, and I don't have to be anywhere until Monday morning. :-)
  11. Is it socially odd that I already have 500 Win AA 7.5's, 150 Win 9's, 100 low recoil slugs, and 100+ low recoil buckshot already loaded in the car for this match? Oh....and I'm bringing enough shot shell caddies to walk around with over 55 rounds of 12ga on my person....plus the 9 in the gun. :-) Considering what was hinted at the last Gateway 3-Gun match, I would come prepared for lots of reloading on one stage....hint hint wink wink! I do hear that AP customs may have some shell caddies that can be borrowed on a stage or two if you dont have enough. -Your friendly Gateway team member.
  12. I can't miss work that Friday, so I won't be able to shoot the match, but if you need an RO on Saturday and Sunday, just let me know.
  13. Ken, Good work with the match once again. I'm looking forward to the Amateur match.
  14. Awesome to hear about Brownells at MW3G. I was glad to see there wouldn't be a time conflict with something else I have going on the previous weekend. ken.....i'll shoot you an email about RO'ing for this one since I wasn't able to RO the MW3G
  15. good looking rifle.....but it looks LOUD. I would suggest a suppressor, ....cause they're awesome! I have an AAC 762SD and AAC 762SDN-6 for my 762OBR, and an M4-2000 for my 556OBR, and the groups shrunk noticeably when I started using them on there....which is a nice side effect of being all hush hush.
  16. I used to be good at math...but not so much anymore. There should be a a relation to drops somehow. Perhaps at 3x, 1/2 of the max power the BDC reticle is calibrated at, the BDC marks are double the MOA they represent at 6x. .....or something like that. I would think the relationship would be linear with it being a true 1x-6x scope....so 2x would be around triple the MOA?
  17. i separate either level or method if I can. For Ozarks last year, I kept slugs in 4 shell caddies WAY left where my pistol mags were, and shotshell in 4x4 caddies center body. For Noveske in Colorado this year, I had slugs in Qualoads on my belt, shotshells in Qualoads on my chest rig on the right and center, and I had buckshot on the far left of my chest rig. The order I shot in, was primarily to ensure I would minimize my chance at DQ'ing myself even if it added a couple seconds.
  18. Precision long-range Duck hunting........THAT's why! :-)
  19. Depends on the breed.......I know PitBulls are looked down upon around Kansas City. :-) I do not believe you will have an issue and have used IWC handstops for the same purpose in the past there, but I always recommend bringing basic tools to remove it if there is an issue.
  20. I have the same tube and went with a GG&G QD sling mount that fits snug to the forearm
  21. Mexican the night before shooting? You like to live on the edge! Hope noone pisses on the porta-john seat. :-)
  22. http://mgmtargets.com/plate-racks-dueling-trees/propeller-plate-rack I shot one of these with a shotgun at a local Mill Creek PSL multi-gun match in Kansas and thought it was a blast to shoot. I haven't been to a lot of big matches yet (see list below...its not much), and am a "newbie" to the sport, but these targets are FUN! (2012 MW3G, 2012 Ozarks, 2012 Fallen Brethren, 2012 Arkansas USPSA Sectional Multigun, 2012 Missouri Area 3 Multigun, local matches at Mill Creek and CMMG)
