  1. Nothing was wrong with the Bushmaster, guy just needed money and never used the rifle. There is no link either, it was a friend selling it. Another mutual friend ended up buying it from him. I think the market is going to get flooded with AR's real soon once people who bought them earlier this year during the panic realize they just sit in there closets and do nothing. I ordered the Stag 3G upper already.
  2. I decided to stop debating and ordered the Hiperfire 24C just now. I didn't regret upgrading the trigger on my Glock to a Fulcrum trigger. I'm sure I will ove this one to.
  3. The lower I picked up yesterday had a RRA single stage trigger with the JP spring kit in it. I am actually really impressed with it.
  4. So general concensus says to get the SJC and that it is worth it. Thanks for the replies.
  5. I originally was a bit budget sensitive, but not so much now. I was able to find some of the higher $$$ items I needed pretty cheap from freinds, the forums, and local classifieds. Getting those deals freed up other cash for some nicer parts elsewere.
  6. There was only a 1/2 lb differnce between the 2 guns. The Bushmaster had a light weight Carbon Fiber free float rail up front to offset the weight.
  7. I am looking for a comp for my AR build. Will be using it for 3gun, and 2gun. Have been looking around and the 2 I am seeing the most about are the Miculek comp, and the SJC Titan. People are saying that it's hard to beat the Miculek comp for the price, but that there are others out there better. I am seeing that the SJC is one of the better comps out there, but is crazy loud and concusive. I have dealt with loud comps as an RO. Last month we had a kid that had one that you could feel when he shot. Not sure of the brand, but it was not "squad friendly", especially in closed quarters. But it seemed to be effective. So I guess my main question is: Is the SJC really worth the extra $$$ over the Miculek? or does the extra concusion and noise make it not worth it. It's only $50 so if it is worth it, I would get it. Secondary question: Is there another good comp I am overlooking? I will be ordering one within a couple of weeks.
  8. I will be ordering me a 24C tomorrow. Looking forward to getting it.
  9. Thanks for that info. I should be ordering one Friday.
  10. That's one advantage I do have. I have a lot of trigger time behind an AR (M16A2 actually). Having been a Marine, the rifle is my strongest gun out of the 3. Did my 1st rifle match last month and came in 10th out of 36 using a borrowed rifle, that I have never shot before the match. Took me a couple stages to figure out his zero, then I started doing really well. Would have come in higher if it didn't take me those couple of stages to figure things out. Pistol, I am pretty good with. I am a C class, but just barely. 1 or 2 more good qualifiers and I could make B class. That's what I have been shooting the most in the past year since I started shooting USPSA. Shotgun is what I need to work on the most, but it seems like that is true for most people. I'm no GM, but I do good enough, and I have a lot of fun. I'm not looking to become a pro, this is just a hobby to me.
  11. Ok, sounds like the consensus is get the Stag. I'll order it Friday. Thanks for the input
  12. Love 1911's, currently am shooting a Glock with Zev Fulcrum Trigger. After some research I am leaning towards the Hiperfire 24C
  13. I have a complete lower that I was considering getting a Stag 3G upper for. I have a friend offering me a full rifle for around the same price. It's a Bushmaster XM15A3 Competition Series with 20" heavy barrel. I can get the upper for around $800, or the whole rifle for around $700. I have also talked to another friend that has said he would buy my lower from me for enough that I could pick up a Samson Evolution rail, lo profile gas block, and a comp. I'm at a loss as to what I should do. If I get the rifle, it will be all matching and I would upgrade it. If I get the Stag upper it would be a great upper, but the rifle would be piecemail. I don't mind the extra 2" of barrel length, actually being a former Marine, I kinda like the idea of a heavy 20" barrel. I used to carry machine guns for a living, so the weight isn't an issue either. AR's feel like toys to me. What would you guys do? Edit: Just fyi. I would be using the rifle mostly for Action Rifle, 2gun, and 3gun.
  14. I have been seeing more and more good things be said about that company. I will have to do some more research on them
  15. The local match I went to, only 4 guys had upgraded triggers, and they were all Geiselle triggers.
  16. I have the rest of my rifle either built or on order. I just need to decide on a trigger now and am at a loss. The only higher end trigger I have ever tried was the Gieselle 3G trigger in a Stag 3G. BUt I am seeing a lot more options out there. Timney has a great reputation, but not real familiar with them. CMC is the only 1911 magazines I will use. I keep hearing good things about the AR Gold triggers to. I'm not sure which to get. Prices are all fairly close, so that's not an issue. With the difference in price between the lowest and highest price, I don't mind paying the difference. Only triggers I have ever used enough to really get a feel for them are standard M16A2 triggers in the Marines or cleaned up standard AR triggers. Which trigger would you choose and why?
  17. Another thing you can do is set up the stages so that you can run them more than 1 way. Club I go to does that a lot. 1 way to run the stage is slower, but is easier for the newer shooter. For those willing to take the risk of tight no shoots or longer shots, you can run the stage a 2nd more difficult, but much faster way just from a differnt angle. We has a stage a month or so ago were the newer shooters started at the front of the bay and were shooting steel straight on with no other targets around them, but then had to move a ways back to finish the stage and shoot the other targets. The more experienced shooter could start farther back in the bay and engage the steel at a slight angle, and there were no shoot targets behind them, so you took a risk if you missed.
  18. I was looking at the Aero mounts as well. One thing I will add is that weight isn't as much of an issue for me as it is with others. As a Former US Marine machine gunner, even a heavy AR feels light to me.
  19. I like the look of the JP's. I like that there are 5 set screws on the base vs the 2 most have. Seems like it would be more secure.
  20. Am in the process of building myself an AR, and have chosen everything except for a scope mount. AR is gonna be flat top of course and the optic will be a Burris TAC30. I was looking at the Burris mount since it's the same company. Are there any other good mounts that aren't crazy expensive? 1 thing I will add is that I am not a fan of quick detatch mounts. Never have liked them. This is the Burris mount I was looking at: http://swfa.com/Burris-AR-PEPR-30mm-Scope-Mount-P12623.aspx looking to get one fairly soon. Scope is on the way, lower is built, and I will be ordering the upper early next month.
  21. And here I thought it was really light when I used one. Of course I used to carry machine guns around and learned to do MOUT (CQB) with an M60E3. M16's or now AR's kinda feel like a toy compaired to the big guns.
  22. I am in the process of doing a mixed build. I did a custom lower with the parts I like, but am buying a Stag 3GH upper. The Stag upper was pretty much the way I planned to build my upper anyways. Only thing I will do to it is swap out the comp.
  23. I used both an MTAC and a TAC30 last weekend at the Rifle event. Brightness adjustment is easier on the MTAC since it's a switch instead of a button, and the whole eye piece on the TAC30 moves when you change magnifaction were it doesn't on the MTAC. Other than that they were both great scopes. I actually ended up finding a deal on here from a member that was selling a barely used TAC30 with throw lever and scope cover for a good price. Looking forward to using it.
  24. I went to a gun shop today that had the Bushnell Throwdown PCL 1x4 and the MTAC 1x4 today. Looked at them side by side and liked the MTAC a lot more. The only thing I liked about the Bushnell better was the built in throw lever, but I can get one of those for the MTAC. I'll be picking one up this weekend.
  25. Thanks, that response I was looking for. I'll stick with the MTAC.
