  1. I have a Match in .40, then I got a Hunter in .45 and fell in love with the competition frame, the checkering on the front and rear of the frame locks on your hand like Velcro! I felt like the 6" top end made it too nose heavy so I sold it and bought a Gold Team upper. The GT barrel has too many holes and not enough comp, so I traded it for a 9mm Limited upper with the idea of making a custom long slide Open gun, but it shoots so sweet I'm going to keep it the way it is for now. I had hoped the cone barrel would feel no different than the straight barrel, but it's awesome! Now I can't stop drooling over that .40 in the classifieds with the Henning Bull Barrel.
  2. Yes but didnt you have a xl firing in there as well from a large frame.. that would be a good upgrade when i get a chance.. im trying to get a drop in XL firing pin and a Jericho grips (looks like CZ UB grips) made I did, but no one makes a reduced power firing pin spring so I'm thinking about using a TS extended pin and machining the notch for the decocker into it so I can used a RP FP spring from CGW.
  3. My newer Match with a rail has an oblong hole in the frame under the grips where the previous owner bolted a Henning mag well which was just about a mm to the rear of where it should have been but worked fine. My buddy's older Match (no rail) is solid and a hole could be drilled to mount Henning's mag well. Which do you have? I though about welding the hole closed and re drilling my Match, but then just took it off and put it on my Hunter frame.
  4. The SP01 grips need a little modification, I'll try to post some pictures tonight. I've found the 5.5kg-6kg range works best for the recoil spring. The little metal things (not my hand, just Google Images) are the ends of the Captians of Crush grippers:
  5. Sorry for the typo, you're absolutely correct!
  6. How big are your hands? I've found the stock rubber grips from the SP01 on my TS fill my hand nicely and give me the most control (my open hand measures 10" between the tip of the pinkie and tip of the thumb). What about a thumb rest?: Are you using the stock plastic mag well? A bigger mag well provides leverage for your support hand to counter the muzzle flip: What weight bullets are you shooting? 200gr with a fast powder is a pretty soft shooting round. Finally there's the CoC!: When you have monster grip strength you will control the pistol better without consciously trying to grip it hard.
  7. My Jericho runs great with an 11.5# spring and Win/CCI primers.
  8. An SP01 will make a great Production gun. With springs and polishing, it can easily surpass the performance of a stock Shadow. Yes the absence of the FPB gives the Shadow a slightly better potential, but if polished and paired with the reduced power spring from CGW it's hardly noticeable.
  9. What are you considering the "fundamentals"? I think of safe gun handling, trigger control and breathing, but that's really just off the top of my head.
  10. I like this concept, the first time I shot Open, I thought "why didn't I start with Open?" The dot is easier to use than iron sights, the trigger is better, the mag well is huge and so are the mags. Yes, Open in the most expensive division, but ten round mags, iron sights, tiny mag wells, DA triggers and the like give new shooters a lot to think about.
  11. Thanks for the info. Let me know if you end up getting the med length grips to accommodate the magwell. Ill take the Long black grips off your hands! I actually have an email in to CZC right now asking if it is possible to get the black grips in the med length from them, or if our only option is to buy the long ones and modify them ourselves. Thanks for posting, Eli I don't know if my configuration would be too bulky for your liking, but I'm now using the factory rubber grips on my TS (modified for the magwell) and I really like it.
  12. The grips for the Match will fit your full sized steel pistol.
  13. I've felt a lot of 2011/1911 triggers and I do prefer a hinge trigger, but there was this one Custom Edge that was pretty sweet.
  14. I'd take the TS over the Shadow Target all day long; if you ever have the chance to fire both side by side you'll know what I mean. The TS has a unique trigger mechanism which has far greater potential than any other CZ75 pattern pistol. Do you plan to do a trigger job on this gun? If not it's a no brainer to go with the TS. Out of the box the trigger is much better than the Shadow which is better than the out of the box Tanfoglio triggers. With a good trigger job the Shadow or the Tanfoglios, can wind up about the same, but that will only come close to a stock TS trigger. With a trigger job and race hammer the TS is paralleled only by a custom 2011/1911.
  15. 9mm rules the Production class, but it has to be DA/SA so that knocks out the TS and the Limited, but the Shadow line, Limited Pro or Stock II/III would all make great competition pistols. If you prefer SAO, Standard Division is your game in which case 9mm is scored Minor so you might consisted the TS or the Limited in .40 to make Major.
  16. Since you named the Shadow Target I figured you just wanted a SAO 9mm for target shooting. Are you going to compete in IPSC?
  17. The trigger was made by Austin Behlert, it's very awesome. Both Henning and CZC's flat triggers have square edges, but this one is contoured. I got two of them in a bunch of parts I bought on EBay from a gunsmith's estate.
  18. If you like a light trigger, the TS is the ultimate. The Limited has more aggressive checkering on the front and back straps of the frame (my wife says it's too much but I love it!) than either CZ. The Limited also uses a heavy cone barrel so I soaks up the recoil the best. The Shadow has a 4.5" barrel, Limited has a 4.75" and the TS has a 5.1" barrel. For me the Tanfoglio ergos and the cone barrel make up for the shortcomings of the trigger making the Limited a toss up with the TS, the Shadow is in third in my opinion.
  19. I mean only in America can a 3 gun household be called "not a gun family". It's a beautiful thing!
  20. [side note]forget DHS, THIS is homeland security![/side note]
  21. I just shot my Limited 9mm for the first time and it is pretty sweet! I have both and here are my questions for you: How soft are your hands? Do you like a heavy pistol? Do you plan to add a mag well? Have you considered a CZ Tactical Sport?
  22. I shot competitively from 11-15, then gave it up (long story); when I turned 30 my wife suggested I get back into it. I went a totally new direction and started shooting USPSA (I used to shoot 25M Olympic Rapid Fire). My wife has been supportive, but I don't think she could've predicted the extent to which shooting would once again occupy at least one burner of my mind at all times For the past year my wife has graciously agreed to put the kids to bed alone once a month for a Thursday night steel match, then a Saturday match once a month as well. We have two boys (2 1/2 and almost 4) with a new baby due next month, so she's informed me in no uncertain terms that I'll be taking a hiatus and we return at a future date to be determined. Before kids, my wife used to like to come shoot with me on occasion, so I hold out hope that when the boys are old enough we can all shoot together
