  1. ^^^ +1 ^^^ I think "old guys" also have the humility to keep their ego out of it.
  2. Hey you don't have to old enough to drive to be a shooter, I was traveling internationally shooting rapid fire when I was 12!
  3. Want to trade those K40 mags for some old 10mm mags???
  4. The .45 I had was a "semi compact" with a full sized grip and 4" barrel, but it was still a large frame. As far as my experience shows, large frame firing pins are 2.59" and small frame firing pins are 2.45" regardless of frame size or barrel length. A large frame BE FP should be 2.59 with a V notch on top. Whether the V notch is in the right place is another question. I used a large frame Tanfo pin and cut my own notch, cut had to weld it up and try again when it didn't hold the PF far enough back in the breech face (hit the decocker and it went BOOM! )
  5. Don't think of it as a "double tap"; you need to place two A zone hits on each paper target. As your ability and mastery of your pistol increase the time between two A's will decrease. The hits are what matters; mitigating the "pressure" is what will make you faster. I've talked to a lot of shooters who wished they had learned how to get good hits before they got fast; it takes much longer to pull the bullets back on target than to get faster.
  6. I hope so. I sent am email to my AD this morning, so I guess well all see how this shakes out.
  7. I have a brand new large frame long slide upper I'm about to use for a compensated top end and it seems like a waste to use a slide cut for the super sight when I'm not going to be using any sights so I though I would pose the question here: would anyone be interested in upgrading their Match 9mm slide with a new super sight slide for say $50?
  8. It seems pretty clear to me that CA residents are restricted by law and the exempt individuals would be those who owned their mags prior to the ban. What am I missing?
  9. I'm very much against USPSA getting involved in this matter; the membership is better served by the Board presenting options to deal with new laws, rather than eliminating options. Yes given CA's new ban on rebuild parts for pre-ban mags, Limited will eventually die and Open will eventually morph into Open 10, but why not just let that happen organically? Forcing the issue only serves alienate a whole bunch of Limited/Open shooters. I suggest creating Open 10 as an option for shooters who live in restricted states and don't own pre-ban equipment, then all bases are covered and no one is prohibited from using their legally owned equipment.
  10. +1 for trigger finger mag release, my shooting buddy does it.
  11. So for a while I've been kicking around the idea of a Tanfo Open upper with no holes. The idea was to use a Limited slide and a cone comp for a 2011 like a Brazos ThunderComp II; I traded my Gold Team upper for a 9mm Limited upper thinking it would be a slam dunk. Well maybe not that easy, but at least doable since the OD of a large frame barrel is .590" (15mm) and the OD of a 1911 bushing barrel is .575" so I would just have to turn it down a bit and cut a .575x40 thread. I decided to go with the Dawson Awesome comp and ordered one. It wasn't until I had my Limited upper and cone comp in had that I saw the fatal error in my plan: the barrel of the Limited is .725" in diameter and the cone on the Dawson comp is .710" so it just rattles around in the hole (not so good for accuracy...). I checked with Bob Brazos and his uncut cone is the same: .710"; so much for that idea Luckily I had another idea locked, loaded and ready to go!: I have a small frame compensated upper from a 9x21 Witness Open gun I bought off GB with a custom cone comp (which sucks), unfortunately a small frame barrel has an OD of .550" (14mm), so it's too small to be threaded .575x40. Ah ha! fit a large frame barrel to the small frame slide (I've done it once before, swore I'd never do it again, but here I am!!!). Since the hole in the front of the slide was already hogged out for a cone comp, just a little grinding and the barrel slid right in. I put it on a frame and... ...nothing. The lugs would not unlock. I had this issue with the other barrel as large frame barrels are slightly taller in the lugs than small frame barrels, the last worked out by taking a little metal off the tops of the lugs, but no dice on this one. Upon closer examination I realized this one needed material taken not only from the tops of the lugs, but also the insides of the lugs... Not something I'm really equipped to do... So there I was, all ready to take a Dremel to my barrel when I remembered: I've got a brand new large frame long slide conversion just sitting at my FFL waiting to be picked up! So all I need to do is open up the front of the slide to .710", turn down the barrel to .575", thread it .575x40, index the comp, blend it, and I'm good to go. But wait! the Dawson comp I bought comes with holes .355" in diameter and needs to be align reamed after install... I have no reamer... Luckily have a guy in GA I've been talking to about a custom comp for my CZ Open gun, what better easy little project to try him out on??? To be continued...
  12. I realize this info could be useful in the Chop Shop, so I re posted it here:
  13. Yes Stuart, like the Austin Behlert trigger I have on my Limited:
  14. Ah that's right, you're in Germany.
  15. I believe the FP springs which come with the Tanfo recoil springs are also heavier than stock.
  16. I measured my Match and Poly BEII this morning and the cut looks to be the same ~11.75mm. I have a Match rear I'll trade for your fixed.
  17. You can cut a nail to the width of the trigger to use as a slave pin, but I haven't figured out an easy way to get the sear spring back in...
  18. You can definitely do it yourself! There is a wealth of information on this forum and others. a good trigger job begins with smoothing everything as much as possible, then lowering the spring weights of the trigger return spring, trigger plunger spring, and hammer spring. If you substitute polishing with just lighter springs the result will be mushy and unreliable. Here's a thread showing all the critical points to polish (it's for a CZ, but much is the same): http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=42537.0
  19. You must not have as much random stuff as Flex or I; if my wife did that, I'd never find anything ever again!
  20. Definitely not drop in, but I don't believe there is a drop in option at this point except maybe a trimmed down Jericho .45 pin (if someone has one laying around I'd be happy to try it out for you ).
  21. I actually don't have any uncut standard Witness guide rods at the moment, but by my calculations a standard length Witness guide rod should be a little long and need to be cut. The standard length CZ guide rod is about 3.75" not including the little point on the back and the long slide Witness guide rod is 4.16" so the standard length Witness guide rod should be 3.91".
  22. Who's in front getting ready to give him a handie?!? Edit: It occurs to me I've never typed the word... had to Google it!
  23. Interestingly enough I've had a real interest in shooting Production since I've started shooting Open. I started in L10, then Limited to Open, shot Production for the first time in a classifier match and shot 10% higher than the rest of my classifications
