  1. He's a year and 17 days younger than me, I'll be 70 in September, Jerry will be 69.
  2. I traded into a 4" from a buddy who used it as his trapline gun. I think the 4" version is perfect balance in a 22 revolver. Wish I wasn't a gun trading addict, love to have that revolver back. I toted it with predator calling for half a dozen winters. Used it as a finish gun for coyotes or Bobcats that got away with a bad shot, that my dog would bay up. Accurate, quiet and effective, 617s are great revolvers.
  3. Perplexing topic; I've shot competitively since 1978, picking up with only revolver in 1991. Between practice, local, state and national/ international matches, I've shot many hundreds of thousands of rounds. Never once, at least that I've known, have I had a problem like this one being discussed. Be interesting to see the cause of this problem?
  4. I've used DG ( Damn Good Bullets) for many years, great prices, always in stock, and never experienced any bullet creep in either 38 special or 38 SC.
  5. It's your reading comprehension that doesn't make sense.
  6. Best advice right there, it ain't chess, it's checkers.

Update: I pulled the trigger and bought it. Guy didn't BS me, looked like it had never been shot, he claimed 100 rounds? I hear that all the time, but this looked legit, no scratches, no flame cutting, and just the slightest hint of a turn line. Came with 22 moons, factory and custom grips, factory aluminum lockable case, just a super clean revolver. Ive shot competitively for over 30 years with my Glenn custom M14 K frame , best action on a revolver Ive ever felt. Ive been handling the big N frame almost daily trying to fall in love with it, but it's for sure an adjustment process, whole different feel in weight, action and trigger feel. Im sure it will come together, just have to keep popping caps I suppose? Put a C-More RTS 2 on top of an Alchin mount, really like it. First RDMS system that has worked for my eyes. On my K frame revolver Ive ran with a Tasco PDP 2 for 30 years, something about the tube type sight the dot is always spherical and clear. Ive tried several different window red dots over the last two years, and none of them allowed for a round, sharp dot, would always see irregularities and slight star bursts. Tried the Vortex Venom, and an SRO, did not work for me. This RTS is the nut, it's sharp and clear, not sure of why, but I like the damned thing. Ive done just a bit of stoning in action, nothing major, tried adding a TK hammer kit, did not fit in my revolver ( if anyone wants a TK diamond speed hammer kit, hit me up for a bargain) I laid out the scratch and bought the RevUp hammer kit, man didn't lie, it was a true drop in fit, and feels pretty damned good, I'll find out tomorrow if it goes bang. Anyway, Im in the current century now for revolver shooting equipment, probably to damned old to notice any difference at this point, but it was a bucket list buy to be able to say I rang the bell?
  8. Get this guy a box of Kleenex.....you've whined about your botched front sight job for 2 months now, give it a rest. The guy has built some amazing firearms for many notable shooters, our own Brian Enos included, and I'd wager his opinion differs greatly from yours. Did you ever take it back to ask how and why your sight was installed incorrectly? How it would be repaired correctly, or your charge refunded? I think I know the answer. Much easier to come here and sling snot and malign a man who once was a well recognized gunsmith.
  9. It's an interesting subject; but in the grand scheme of things relating to how well you shoot a stage or a complete match, it's possibly the least important bit of minutia to consider?
  10. Racer......I get it, you have a hardon for Glenn; but did you ever take it back for an explanation or discuss a fix? The man has built some of the finest revolvers over the years for lots of the name guys, Brian Enos and Rob Leatham just to name two whose name would be familiar here. I have a S&W M14 revolver he built back in 1991 for me, a Bianchi Cup style, absolute flawless work and an action that no other revolver Ive handled can hold a candle to. Accuracy when I first got it was a tad less than 1/2" @ 25 yards with wad cutters. Still shoot it to this day in NRA action matches and Steel Challenge. He's been around a long time, maybe age has caught up to him and he just doesn't have it any longer.....who knows. I sure as hell would have returned it to the shop and had it made right?
  11. Here's an idea......take out a screwdriver, and crank that strain screw another half a turn, then not worry about popping alternate brand primers? If your worried your performance will be severely compromised by having a trigger pull of 7 pounds rather than 5, maybe take up bowling.
  12. Thanks fellas, appreciate the input. Im running a bit longer in my oal, I'll adjust to 1.50, and see how they fly.
  13. Tried to find some Clays that is all the rage....no go. I picked up some VV N320, so I thought I'd give it a go from my usual WST load for 38 special. I use a 160 gr coated bullet, Fed primers. Any suggestion on good load to make 120 PF?

Corresponding with a guy on another forum, he has a like new 627 8 shooter, moon clip loading tool and 22 moon clips. Im old as dirt now, and need a state of the art revolver, like I need a hole in the head. Trouble is, I still would like to play with an 8 shot just for s#!tz and grins. He's asking $1100 shipped, is this in the ball park, or is it over priced?
  16. Natchez also has Federal SPP, LPP, and rifle too. Saw they had Gold Medal Match too, I just went for the plain vanilla.
  17. I'm left handed, no other way to get the reload done without changing hands. As I start the pass to my right hand, I'm crossing my lefthand thumb over the hammer and engaging the cylinder release, right hand thumb moves cylinder out, and revolver by hanging on my thumb and middle and ring finger secure it, depressing ejection rod with right hand index finger. I tip the revolver up, not quit 90 degrees to eject spent cases, tip down to reload, change back to left strong hand and get back to yanking the trigger. Essentially, like most every shooter I've seen, the barrel is at some point, at an angle that is oriented "over the berm". Watching the Josh Lentz video, although his barrel at reload didn't appear to be at an "over the berm " angle, when he raises his revolver back on target, he's what I call a "caster", he doesn't raise revolver with barrel parallel to ground as Jerry does, muzzle is arked, at an angle that clearly is over the berm, then drops down on the target. I'm just not buying the idea there is a correlation between the 180 rule and this idea you can reload a revolver, without at some point, the muzzle will not be oriented at an angle that would be pointed over the berm. I've never been DQed for it, nor have I ever witnessed it at any match I've shot in, specific to revolvers, ICORE and 2 IRC matches I attended.
  18. I'm not understanding the "above the berm" portion of DQ status. Don't believe I've ever performed, nor have I've seen any other revolver shooters not, at some point have the muzzle almost straight up, which sure as hell orients it well above the berm? What am I not understanding with this point during the reload? I've been shooting competitively since 1977, and specifically revolver since 1991, and have never had a DQ. My muzzle is up for every reload.
  19. Mike, I just drug out my revolver a year ago, after a 22 year hiatus. Started shooting Steel Challenge and NRA action pistol, not a lot of movement, and I can still hang with my six shooter.....as long as I don't miss. I use the same powder that I used back then, WST. I've followed this forum for years, I used to shoot some of the same matches as Brian and Rob, so it was fun to see some of the old cadre of shooters post that I competed with back in the 80s. To get to the point though, I used to see lots of chatter about N320, what is the draw for it? I've never used it, but see it's available compared to the recent powder du jour, Clay's. I shoot. 38 special.....is it worth a switch from WST to N320?
  20. I attended the IRC in 1993 and 1994. They had 4 classes, A,B,C and D class, 2 divisions, snubby and everything else. Man, those were good times, with great shooters, with simple format.
  21. I shot the original Steel Challenge in 83 and 84, you danced with what you brung. Didn't make any difference if you utilized a compensated 38 super, or a box stock 1911, everyone was in the same pool. Man how times change, way to many divisions to my mind
  22. I'd give a shout to Frank Glenn, bet he could handle your project. Glenn Custom in Phoenix
