  1. I agree with all the positive comments about Shooters Connection and Brownells. Both are excellent well-managed companies that are a consistent pleasure to deal with, and both are stand-up sponsors for our shooting events. I tend to use Brownells for gunsmithing stuff because they are only an hour down the road here in Iowa. But every time I have ordered through Shooters Connection I have received perfect service and fast shipment. And what a pleasure it is to open a package and find a personal "Hi Mike!" hand-written on the invoice from Michael or Chuck. These guys have it figured out that the little things count for a whole lot in this world. Kudos to 'em.
  2. World Shoot Revo Team Update! I want to send out a special word of thanks to some very fine folks. The team members were recently required to sign contracts that we must purchase and wear official World Shoot shirts over in Greece. As everybody knows by now, Revolver is the only U.S. division that gets no financial support whatsoever from USPSA. Then yesterday, from completely out of the clear blue, came emails from Sue Irish informing us that Bob ("the Mad Genius of Revolver Division") Perdue and the Irish family will be underwriting the cost of the official World Shoot shirts for the U.S. Revolver team. Is that cool or what? Thanks so much to our great friends Bob, Steve, Sue, and Sarah for their extraordinary generosity. Then--as if that wasn't enough to make my whole day--I opened yesterday's mail to find a check from new wheelgunner Jerry Cardoso (aka "Fudd" here on BE) who simply wanted to show a gesture of support to the U.S. Revo team. What a pleasant surprise! The team can use it for a nice meal some evening over in Greece, and we will be sure to kick it off with a toast to our benefactor and new friend Jerry C.! Thank you very much for your thoughtful gift to the team. What else can I say? You guys are the best!
  3. I liked Bob Kevoian's comment on the radio: "They just dumped him over the side of the boat like an old water heater."
  4. Peter Lemongello (pronounced like the food) is a singer who sorta invented the infomercial back in the '70s. Here's a clip of him singing "Can't Get You Off (My Mind)."
  5. For USPSA? Find a 5" S&W 625. Don't get a .357 and don't get an 8-shot.
  6. Ooooh, that's an excellent suggestion! Ever try J.R.'s alternative selection version of that cigar? They're frickin' great, and they only cost $2-3 apiece. There are some great deals out there on good cigars right now if you're a smart shopper.
  7. Nah, they're way past the point of no return. After a couple years of sitting there with no humidification, they're toast. Literally. They're as hard as rocks and snap in half like twigs. I'd be afraid if I tried to light one up, it would burst into flames and singe my eyebrows.
  8. I don't think I'm coming across clearly. I'm not trying to express an opinion on how Nationals should be run or funded. I'm simply saying that given the way Nationals is currently run and funded, there should be more than enough entry money coming in to support the match. Last year, the LPR Nats had 367 shooters and O-L10 had 381. That's at least $175,000 in entry fees.
  9. So I was just moving a pile of empty (or so I thought!) cigar boxes off a shelf in my office and I noticed one felt a little heavy. I opened it and found a whole row of 10 beautitul Puros Indios No. 2 Especial Maduros hidden under a thin piece of cedar in the bottom of the box. Apparently a couple years ago I put the cigars from that box into my humidor and somehow missed the bottom row. Of course, without proper humidification they are now bone dry and completely ruined. Man, what a waste.
  10. I'm saying USPSA Handgun Nationals is, or certainly should be, a profit center for USPSA. If they actually lose money on Nationals, there is something going really wrong. Multi-Gun Nationals? Who knows. Other than reading about MG in Front Sight, most of us have little or no exposure to MG.
  11. Yeah, I tend to agree with Glockwerkes on this. I swear by my Hearthco clips for .38 Short Colt in my 8-shooters, but for .45 ACP I really think the regular Ranch Products are the way to go. I've been running mixed brass in Ranch moonclips for years with no problems whatsoever. You don't need them tight in .45.
  12. I think that's bullcrap. If it's actually true, then the match is being horribly mismanaged.
  13. Hmm, I think this might be a mistake on Midway's website. I have never heard of a steel Weigand blade, and I buy a lot of product from Jack. If you look at the Weigand website, it states the material is heat-treated aluminum: http://www.jackweigand.com/smith_wesson_rear_blade.html Making the Weigand blade out of steel would be a good idea, though! The aluminum blades work fine, but I like the ability to touch up a rear sight with cold blue when the edges start to get silvery. So somebody let me know if I'm wrong and there really is a steel Weigand blade.
  14. Don't worry....I'll have an extra gun along, so it can be your back-up gun too. Just in case, you might want to hand-seat your primers to ensure your ammo will work in it.
  15. Will El Conquistador pull it off?? We'll find out on Top Shot Season 3!
  16. Continental tires suck. I had a set on a new Chrysler 300C go bad very quickly. Found out they were part of a class action suit, so I filled out the paperwork. The administrator rejected my claim because I was slightly over the mileage limitation.
  17. Yeah, that's one of the early guns from the first run of 5" 8-shots contracted by Lew Horton. I have an unfired one just like it in my safe. Those early guns came in a small black plastic Performance Center case (before they started using the aluminum briefcase-style PC case) and they were fitted with wood grips. I'm not sure who made the grips for S&W.
  18. The factory crane lock system used on some of the Performance Center models works pretty well, but in general the aftermarket crane ball locks don't do a whole lot.
  19. (God, I love shooting my wheelgun against guys who talk outta their ass like this......) OK Chad.....are you bringing your limited gun to Area 5 by any chance? Care to put a little friendly wager on it? You with your STI, me with my 625, and we shoot the match heads up?
  20. Dan, you're very fortunate--some of the best wheelgunners in the country shoot at Richmond! Best of luck, Mike
  21. Hurry back, Pat. You'll do just fine, I'm sure!
  22. Normally any post containing the phrase "blow a seal" is automatically relocated to the Humor forum.
  23. My 18-year-old son Sam has not been watching the show, but last night he sat down with us and watched. This is what he had to say: "Any good 3-gunner would make all these military guys look like a bunch of retards." Maybe not the most PC thing to say, but I think he hit the nail right on the head. Jerry would have run through that course in about 25 seconds.
  24. You know you can make an old-style yoke screw for the newer guns, right? You take one of the new yoke screws and replace the plunger spring with a small pin cut to the proper length. This leaves you with what is effectively a solid screw that won't allow the yoke to push out of the frame when you get a little too aggressive on the reload. Just had an idea--somebody should manufature a one-piece solid yoke screw that could be fit to the new guns!
  25. Yeah, same here. The 66-5s are the best of the series. Made during the wonderful early CNC years at S&W (1998-2001) so they are super smooth inside. And they have the pinned sights that can be easily replaced with the FO front sight that most people seem to prefer. Lately, I've been finding them hard to locate for under $500, though....
