  1. I give up. Wish I had the extra time you guys obviously have!
  2. I don't want to come across too strong here, but I really think you guys are putting the effort into the wrong things. My competition guns all have light (under 6#) DA pulls, and I use an assortment of mixed brass that I've accumulated over the last 24 years. All you really have to do is make sure the primers are fully-seated. Personally, I use a good quality hand-priming tool to re-squeeze the primers after loading the ammo. That's all you need to do. All the rest is masturbatory ritual. (And of course I mean that in a nice, respectful way.)
  3. Well, the Nationals used to have stages like this......back when it was held at PASA! For some reason the Desert Sportsman's crew seems to like to contain the movement and curtail the freestyle a little too much for my taste.
  4. Mike, did you get your car lights turned off? I drove the entire range looking for you but you were no where to be found. Darren Yes, Tony H. came and got my keys and took care of it for me. Thanks for looking out for me, guys!
  5. Thanks to everybody who helped put together and run this match. It was a great time, and a typical high quality shooting experience at PASA!
  6. Glad I could help you out with that. Oh.....and welcome to USPSA.
  7. I completely agree. I shoot a lot of big matches all over the country, and I can tell you there was nothing crazy about this year's Area 3, and that includes stage design and the officiating of the match. It was a good match. As long as you maintained proper control and followed the rules, there was absolutely no problem. The DQs were not all centered around one stage or even one safety issue--they were literally across the board.
  8. Hi guys! I just happened to catch this ancient thread coming back from the dead. Lubecktech, I can't really answer your question all that accurately, because I simply haven't shot the gun all that much. After installing fiber optic front sights on both top ends (after the pics below were taken), I shot a couple matches with the rig and pretty much put it away in the safe, where it still sits today. Sam went through Manny's class with it a few years back--the stock firing pin somehow got bent (?) but that was an easy fix and otherwise the gun did fine. I've been so focused on other platforms (mostly revolver, although I enjoy Production and Single-Stack also) that I haven't had much need to shoot any of my wide-body 1911s. I still think the Armscor wide-body guns are a neat option if you can find them. The stock internal parts are nothing special, but the major components seem to be just fine. Keep in mind that STI's Spartan pistols (which have been highly touted by many shooters here on BE) feature frames and slides made in the Philippines by Armscor. Bottom line, my "Filipino Fantom" is a gun I plan to keep.

  10. Thank you Pete, but I am out of the revolversmithing business, at least for now. See my dealer forum for more details.
  11. It doesn't get much sexier! "Sexier"?? Seriously, dude, if you think a reloading press is sexy, you got some wiring screwed up someplace. (Especially a press that doesn't auto-index.)
  12. The correct combination: Starline short colt brass, Hearthco moonclips sized for Starline, and plenty of chamfer.
  13. Jerry isn't losing it at all--he's a truly great shooter and still easily the favorite to win any revolver match he enters. BUT--there are several really tough wheelgunners who have brought their game up very, very close to Jerry's level in the past couple years. (None of them were at Area 4, by the way.....)
  14. Cliff's not shooting Nationals this year.
  15. It will absolutely be a battle. But who would've thought that would ever happen? Remember when Jerry was untouchable in Revo? Remember when the second-place finisher was lucky to get in the low 80s? Not no more! Guys like Matt and Josh and Dave are now putting serious pressure on the old man. About five years ago, I was one of the first to get over 90% of Jerry at Nationals (along with Nils). Last year, I still managed to hit 90% of Jerry and I finished 6th! The competition in Revolver Division is getting really serious. It will be really interesting to see how it all comes out this weekend.
  16. Let's be honest, though.... Any attempt to pick just one revolver for USPSA and ICORE and IDPA is going to be a severe compromise for at least two of those games. For USPSA, the easy top choice is the 5" 625 or 6"-6.5" 25-2, with the 5" 610 (and perhaps Josh's long-barreled 646) getting honorable mention. For ICORE, the 8-shooters reign supreme, although you can get through pretty well with a USPSA rig and light loads. For IDPA, you would want a 4" barreled 625 for ESR, and a 4" K- or L-frame .38/.357 for SSR. Fortunately, competition revolvers are not terribly expensive. Those on a tight budget would be better off picking one gun/game for now, then start saving up for the next one, rather than settle on some sort of "jack of all trades, master of none" middle-ground. Or so it seems to me.
  17. I never can quite figure out why someone needing legal advice would look for it here.

Hey Youngeyes....your wife has learned your BE password and is leaving posts here. Just thought you should know.
  19. I don't know what it is, but I seem to have an ongoing problem with warping my rotors. Yeah, I drive fairly aggressively, but nothing too crazy. And we don't have that much traffic in Iowa, so it's not a lot of stop 'n' go stuff. And I sure don't ride the brakes or use the wrong foot or anything like that. I've done all my own brake work for many years, and I know I'm not overtorquing them--I use an air impact gun to get them off and to spin the lugnuts back in place, but always do the final tightening by hand. The one exception is my MB ML320. The rotors on that vehicle seems to stay nice and straight, and I don't drive it differently than anything else. I can't help but think those rotors must be designed better or made better.
  20. Nice job, Cliff! (Just ignore jhgtyre's rudeness.)
  21. I've always hated typographical conundrums. They make me feel like I'm typing while wearing a raincoat in the shower.
  22. Stan, is there a reason Matt Griffin's name is capitalized on your list? Do you know something we don't? Perhaps some weather pattern forming over Nevada that favors a shooter who wears a big goofy-looking hat?
  23. The secret is to start with a large fortune.
  24. Should be the same for reliability. I've never been able to tell the difference in terms of functioning.
