  1. Jack Graham might have a good shot at beating Jerry to the punch......
  2. Hey, here's an interesting thought--couldn't Jerry just shoot his 625 in all five divisions (moving his stuff back behind the hipbone for Production, of course) and just keep rapping away at it until he's got 'er done? ;-)
  3. I agree. I was a little disappointed to see that the entry fee went up from last year. It's a great match, but $200 is pretty stiff. For those of us flying in, it winds up being a pretty expensive weekend.... Also, I know it sounds a little self-serving, but I sure would like to see a greatly-reduced entry fee for junior shooters. I was hoping to bring Sam along with me next Feb., but man, I just don't think we can justify the cost. Mike
  4. Treb, I've used Metalform 10-rounders for quite some time, never had anything like the problem you described. If they are fairly new mags, you may want to leave them loaded until the springs relax--that may help with getting the mags properly seated during matches without having to slam them in so hard.... Or maybe there is some sort of incompatibility with your particular gun that makes them hard to get seated. Something's wrong if you gotta jam 'em in that hard. Not sure about the Wilsons--I know several shooters who have managed to break off the metal stop tabs on the front. I've heard good things about the Chips and the Tripps. Good luck! Mike
  5. Anybody know if there are any stage diagrams posted, published, or otherwise available? Mike
  6. CR Speed seems to be the most popular choice among the high-tech rigs now available. I'm pleased with mine (new upgrade from my 15+ year old Safariland rig), but don't have much experience to base a comparison. Good luck, nice to have several interesting options! Mike
  7. Nemo and Proff: Great hearing about those junior shooters of yours! It's a really cool experience being an "IPSC Dad"! Mike P.S. Looks like somebody used Photoshop to show us what Hopalong would look like if he ever cut the hair and shaved off the long ZZ-Top-style beard.....

    Improving A Vanek

Lance: Excellent response. Your experience applies to many of us who happen to be balancing our shooting hobby with family duties and demanding occupations. Mike
  9. It seems to be working now.....thanks for the help, everybody.
  10. OK, now I can get it work with everybody else's number but mine!! Can anybody else pull it up? A23819 Thanks, Mike
  11. The shoothouse was cool! (I had never shot one before...) Pitch black inside. Start outside, tactical light in weak hand, gun loaded and holstered, hand on doorknob. On buzzer, open door and enter, engage T1-3 in living room (complete with couch and TV), move through, shoot T4 in the hallway, engage T5-6 in the middle room, then back to the bedroom where T7 is standing on the bed wearing "body armor" (only head shot scores). We got a walk-through beforehand. The biggest problem many people had was doing that one reload with the flashlight in the weak hand. Listening as shooters went through, there were plenty of loooooong pauses while that reload was being juggled in. The other stages are not posted, to my knowledge, although maybe somebody with the match book and a scanner can put them up for you to see. Mike
  12. I can't seem to access the databank on the USPSA main page. I keep getting a big red "Error!" message. Is it my computer, or is the website not working right? Mike
  13. OK guys, let's get a head count. I'm going for sure--who else will be shooting revo in Topeka on May 21?? Mike
  14. Sam, it was our first ICORE match....it was a strange (but great) feeling to be shooting a match surrounded by nothing but other revolver shooters! As you would expect, everybody got along great and had a really good time. I had some major trouble at first trying to get the dang 8-round moonclips in the gun, I think with the 6-round-neutral course design I probably would have done better with my 625. Fortunately things smoothed out by the time we did the shoot-off, and my reloads were faster. Wish we had ICORE up and running in this area......
  15. What a great weekend! Thanks to Bud Bond and everybody in Colorado for putting on a truly first class match. This is one that the rest of you serious wheelgunners should really consider attending next year--Sam and I had never shot an ICORE match before, but we look forward to trying it again soon. One thing I noticed--just about all of the wheelgunners who showed up for this match were pretty dang competent shooters, I was pretty impressed with the skill quality top to bottom. Fun stages, nice people, knock-out prize table. Saw some old friends, and made some new ones. It was honestly well worth the 20-hour round-trip, and I'd say that's pretty high praise! By the way, Glock Phan, congratulations on a great performance Saturday, and I look forward to shooting with you again somewhere soon. Mike
  16. Ron, I actually have an 8-3/8" barrel off a 25-5 that I had fitted to my 25-2! Last year I put the original barrel back on so I could use the gun for ipsicking, but I've always liked lots of sight radius. It's a little muzzle-heavy, though, I think I'd like a "1950-style" tapered barrel, but I don't think they ever made a long tube like that.....
  17. One of the biggest matches in the US is Frank Garcia's Florida Open. This year, 158 shooters shot Limited, 125 shooters shot Open. Here in the States, it cannot be said that the hardcore shooters gravitate to Open--if anything, Open tends to be the division of choice for women, children, and older shooters whose eyes aren't as flexible. (<--I don't mean this to sound derogatory or condescending toward anybody--some of my best shooting friends, and many great shooters, fall into one of those categories.) For obvious reasons, open guns are simply easier for those folks to shoot well, as a general rule anyway. Or so it seems to me. Mike
  18. Jerry had to have blown his reload. He can't slow down his shooting even when he tries (which happens to be his one Achilles heel.....) Interesting to see he was still a "U" at the 2002 Nats. Mike
  19. Don't anybody let Hopalong fool you.....he looks exactly like his BE avatar!
  20. My son Sam, my friend DougC. and I will be at the match this weekend.....any other BE folks planning to be there? Mike
  21. Hey Dan, sounds like they've got 5 wheelguns signed up for the Iowa Sectional. That's not a lot, but it'll be enough to make it fun! I asked Chad to squad us all together. See you then, Mike
