  1. Is that Christie Rogers on the right?
  2. Dan, he's been using the "S-word" with me too, lately....what are we going to do about him??
  3. Yep, we're shooting on Sunday. Can't wait!
  4. Flex: Most of us serious wheelgunners at the match are going to have at least one extra .45 ACP revolver along for a spare. I even try to pack an extra holster and belt just in case. As long as the guy has good ammo made with Federal primers he should have no problem borrowing a good gun from somebody and shooting the whole match with it, without the hassle of bagging/unbagging on each stage. Federal primers, though (or American Eagle hardball) are highly recommended in order to ensure good ignition with our lightened actions. Great news about all these revolver shooters coming out in force...if I can help anybody out with anything specific, just let me know. Mike
  5. I was shocked as well--it was really a bad scene. This is the exact same bunch of guys who did a great job with the MO Fall Classic last year....however, somebody really dropped the ball on this match. I sent a polite email to them last night, expressing my concerns, and would like to see their response before I say anything further on the forum. Mike Carmoney
  6. OK--thanks. Must be some little weird incompatibility with my printer or something. No big deal--I just drew them in with a pen.
  7. Anyone other'n me having a hard time printing some of these stages? I can't seem to get some of the targets and poppers to show up on some of my print-outs, even though I can see them on the monitor screen.... Can somebody try printing Stage 15 L/R/P and tell me if the targets show up on the page? Thanks.
  8. Rob, here's an old picture of me shooting one of the "Big Money Winchester Shoot-Offs" up at Second Chance.....you'll see a younger version of Herb in the background! Not sure who won that round, but our hammers seem to be frozen at exactly the same place!
  9. So who's on our list of wheelgunners for Area 3? I see the following probable revolver shooters on the online squadding: Mike C. Sam C. Dave W. Keith U. Mike W. Kevin K. Who else am I missing?? (I also see Kay M. on the list of unsquadded shooters, but her husband's name does not seem to appear....?) Talk to me.
  10. Results: http://www.capitalcitygunclub.com/pistol/results/sfc05.html
  11. Keith: My son Sam and I are signed up to shoot Revo at the MN Sectional in Sept. already, so that's three for sure. I know Skip went last year--he'd be four--maybe we can talk Jay into going along as well (although I know he's expecting to take delivery of his new Open blaster sometime around in there, so he might be distracted...) Pretty long travel time for Sam Keen and Cliff Walsh, so we're probably safe from them. We could be brave and invite Dan--of course, he might just take you up on it like he did me! That crazy guy will show up anywhere, anytime, to shoot Revo. Bet there's some other good wheelmen up there in your neck of the woods.... Mike
  12. Results are posted: http://www.ioweb.com/oops/ (look under "match info--special matches": Fun match!
  13. Hey guys--I'm happy to report that we had 7 wheelgunners from 4 different states at our first-ever Iowa Sectional Match today, which is enough to have a real horse race. Dan Carden flew in from California to shoot with us, and won the division plaque. Several of us midwesterners did a fairly good job of keeping him honest! Results are under "match info--special matches" at http://www.ioweb.com/oops/ It was good seeing everybody today. Mike
  14. Same here--no more sanctioned IDPA in this lifetime. My membership is about to expire and it will not be renewed. I'm virtually certain that not one single shooter from the entire state of Iowa will be participating in the 2005 IDPA Nationals, if that tells you anything. My son and I are sure looking forward to shooting the USPSA Area 3 Championship, and the USPSA Nationals in July! Best of luck to those who make the trip to Arkansas. Mike
  15. Sherwyn-- So you and I are shooting heads-up? Is that what you're saying??
  16. Bob, the whole point of my most recent post was to encourage the qualified and competent 'smiths on this forum to chime in and let folks here know that slide-locks CAN be made to work on wide-body IPSC guns--albeit with certain trade-offs, which you have detailed for us. Thank you for doing so! It sounds like we agree that a functioning slide-lock is a good idea (or at least a good option) on an L-10 gun, where occasionally it will be advantageous to run the guy all the way empty and then reload on the move. Certainly we would also agree that lazy and lousy gunsmiths (and unfortunately, there are still some of them out there) ought not be tolerated in our sport.... Best regards, Mike
  17. Sorry David, I didn't mean to sound terse. That "baloney" stuff I wrote was not directed at you personally...this topic just happens to bump into one of my most severe sore spots--lousy gunsmiths. People who try to make money off my sport better be willing to do it right. We have a number of high-profile 'smiths who spool through this sub-forum on a daily basis--this topic has now been up for a couple days, but none have responded so far. So--let's hear from all you pro gunsmiths who are tuned in--can you or can you not make a slide stop function correctly in a wide-body IPSC gun?? Mike
  18. Baloney--the slide-lock on my Para works 100% perfectly and always has, with all eight of my mags. I use it as an L-10 gun, so there are times in particular stages when I need to run it dry to get all the necessary shots off on a target array....and when I'm moving to the next array I'd much rather hit the slide-lock with my left thumb (as Plaxco says, that's the reason God gave me one) rather than rack the dang slide. Y'know what? I think many "gunsmiths" convince their customers they need to disable the slide-stop because they don't know how to (or don't want to be bothered with) fit the thing correctly. Or so it seems to me. Mike
  19. Yeah, I knew I might lose a moonclip or two at a full run, but figured most of them would stay in place--didn't think they would go flying everywhere! I definitely should have put them back on the plastic posts where they belong for that stage, instead of leaving them hanging off the front edge. Fortunately, I had enough extras along with me, although at the end I had to revert to my old reload technique to get that last one I had way around behind my back! Fun stage, Dave you must have run off 50,000 calories ROing it! Sam just recently switched over from the Model 10 to a moon-gun, a Model 646 (shooting minor), so we lost one advantage we had over him.... Mike
  20. Shred, I'm curious, are you talking about the "horizontal 180" or the "vertical 180"?
  21. Well, Jerry, you've got exactly the right first name for succeeding at this wheelgunning stuff! Mike
  22. Thanks stingerjg, I really enjoyed shooting this match, and saw some pretty high quality shooting going on around me in all divisions.... It was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones! Thanks to Dave W. for convincing the boys to recognize the Revo division, it just would not have been quite as much fun shooting L-10 for me. The Prairie Skys Moon Caddie which Dave donated is a really neat prize--I can't decide whether to use it for its intended purpose, or put it on display! Thanks again Dave--Sam and I are looking forward to shooting on Squad 50 with you at Area 3. This was a very well run match--and a lot of fun to shoot--I'll definitely make the trip to Topeka again. Mike
  23. Thanks Dave--see you there! Mike
