  1. Don't get a cordless one (unless you already have a "regular" one). Trust me. Mike Carmoney, Provost Rotary Gunsmithing Institute (Midwest Campus)
  2. I had a P220 in .38 Super I carried for awhile in a Blocker IWB rig. I became a little disenchanted when I chronoed the ammo (this was before there was ANY high-performance stuff available in that caliber). I do know a guy who has one of the original Browning BDAs in .38 Super, which of course is a high-gloss version of the P220 with European butt-heel mag release. He's pretty proud of this gun, and brought it out of his vault just long enough for me to take this photo (quite a few years ago):
  3. hmp32 -- Congratulations on the SDB! These handy little machines are highly underrated, in my opinion. I'd much rather load on a SDB than a friggin' 550--I don't want any part of a progressive loader that doesn't auto-index the shell plate. I have two SDBs mounted side by side on my bench downstairs, and between them I have loaded hundreds of thousands of rounds over the past 17 years. Mike
  4. Let's see him shoot some major USPSA matches with the wheelgun in '06!
  5. Bill, can you send out a blanket email acknowledging entries? I'd sure feel better knowing DougC's and mine made it to you..... Thanks, Mike
  6. Dave, that the was exact same thought I had when I saw that article. Looks to me like original 25-2s are starting to jump up in price lately....I still view 'em as shooters and not collector guns, so I don't like seeing the values go up, 'cause I sure wouldn't mind having another. With my 625 off being plated, I shot my old 25-2 at yesterday's club match (the same gun I bought up at Riley's in Hooksett back around '87 or '88), and it was a very nice and comfortable feeling indeed!
  7. A smiff? What are you having smiffed? Mike (P.S. Dang, I sure wish I could go along.....)
  8. Hell, all you need's a bandsaw and a dremel tool.
  9. Who's this "Robbie" guy you guys keep talking about?
  10. Yeah, the metal "finger" on the indexer on the older SDBs was made from a pretty soft alloy that would wear out and need replacement from time to time. The newer indexers are much better--I'd suggest you replace that part (they'll send you one for the asking), and clean and lubricate your machine when you install it, and you should be all set.
  11. Actually, at one time I briefly had two Hearthco moonclips.....the one you gave me and one of Dan's .45 moonclips that somehow wound up in my shooting bag after the MO Fall Classic. (I sent it to Dan, carefully packaged and insured, of course.)
  12. Yeah, I've tried the Rimz clips but they're not for me. I do have one (1) Hearthco clip and that is the beautifully-machined sample you sent me. I keep it in a little velvet-lined box in my safe and bring it out only on special occasions. It's my "barbecue" moonclip, actually....
  13. If you decide to DIY, you'll need to file the left side of the front side (looking down the sights from behind the gun). Mike
  14. Judas Priest, Dave, what are you doing out there, EDMing those things out of pure platinum?!? Man. How about a "Hearthco Value Line" moonclip made from MIM or plastic or hard-tack candy, for us non-California working stiff wheelgunners??
  15. Nah, I'm too cheap to pay for something I can make Sam do for free.
  16. I would like to take this oppurtunity to welcome zip308 to the forum. I've been trying to pry him away from his wife and kids to come out and shoot some IPSC with me for years. Mission finally accomplished. And low and behold he is starting out with a revolver to shoot some Tuesday night league with us at SCAPSA this spring. Welcome Chad! KOOL!! Chad, welcome aboard. Prolly see you at a match somewhere if the weather ever warms up!
  17. It changes the dimensions, but minimally so. Everything should still function properly. Sometimes the chrome job will make the slide feel like it fits a litter tighter on the rails, until it gets burnished in (then it just feels slick and smooth)--this is usually viewed as a good thing. On one 1911 I sent off for hard chrome, I noticed the thumb safety felt a little stiffer at first--after working it for awhile, it was fine.
  18. MO: You need one of those Rock Island Armory bright-nickel .38 Supers! Dirt cheap!
  19. You guys are throwing perfectly good brass away just because it's got a little bitty crack up at the end of the case??? What a shameful waste. Those cases are usually good for several more loading cycles. I toss them when the crack reaches 1/4". And I've NEVER seen a primer pocket that I thought was too loose. You guys need to quit being so dang prissy!
  20. Yes, as a matter of fact I am!! I'm a big Bubber fan--he proves this ain't no equipment race. (Plus, I happen to know that ol' Waltermitty's tougher than he looks!) As Hop would say, congratulations to all y'all!!
  21. I'm not a bit afraid of loading nickel brass, but I completely fail to see any advantage in going out of my way to use the stuff.....
