  1. 2015 starts here - http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=209517
  2. 2014 – The year in a quick review Looking back on this year I can’t help but realize there were more significant events than I noticed. Before I jump into 2015, I’m going to take a moment to reflect on what happened in 2014. This is only a sampling of what made 2014 a year to remember – but unfortunately I can’t remember the rest of it right now! I met new friends in USPSA and 3Gun: Alma Cole has helped me better understand myself and the game, so thank you for that. Paul Begovich has brought his upbeat attitude and camera everywhere to boost morale and make memories even on the bad days. Ernest Langdon has given me perspective on the non-gamer side of why we game and brought me back to reality at times. Thank you all for that. I went out of my way to practice every Friday, but didn’t dry fire at home during the week. The range I shoot at is 2 hours from my house and it’s a nice range but dry fire would also certainly help my game. Why am I not dry firing? I guess it’s the same reason that I don’t go to the gym, or eat well, or enjoy reloading ammo – I see it as a chore and it’s not fun. I’d rather be hanging out with my wife or friends, at a local cigar bar, eating Big Mac’s. I had some stupid mistakes last year, like getting DQ’d on the first stage at my home club when I brought a guest with me. It was the perfect “lemme show you how it’s done” moment as I proceeded to ditch a hot shotgun with the safety off and haul ass downrange with my Glock. Some other stupid moments were: running out of rifle ammo mid-CoF, and not enforcing range movement rules on myself that I know are a best practice (this actually happened a lot) I had some unexplained equipment issues such as a gas system problems with my rifle, light strike issues with my Glock 34, high seated primers from a Dillon, and a variety of other things that plagued me on and off throughout the year. I believe them to all be sorted out as I move into 2015 but really only time will tell… o_O Even with those problems though, I competed and shot better than I ever have, placing in the top third at every major match and top 1-5 locally. I won my first gun at the Midwest 3GN Regional held at Rockcastle, it was a Remington 870 and I gave it to my Dad as a “thank you for getting me into shooting” gift. I later won a 2nd gun at FNH 3G later that year in September which I promptly sold as a good 3 gunner is supposed to do – so I could put the money back into the addiction that is this sport. Lastly, I realized that I don’t care about being “sponsored” as much as I thought I did. I’m grateful to have the support that I have from Peacemaker National Training Center …and I love having such a nice place to shoot – but I’m really a self-funded competitor shooting on my terms, succeeding, slowly advancing my game and enjoying the hell out of life along the way.
  3. Anyone see anyone doing the "load 6" as opposed to quad loading?
  4. So.. are people actually doing the "load 6" technique now or is Quad Loading still the way to go?
  5. Very excited to see what the match is going to be like. I like shooting Tarheel so I'm thinking I'm going to like shooting Freedom. Hoping for high round counts and the option to use all guns on all (or most) stages.
  6. The only irons I'd have on a 3 gun rifle with this mount and a Razor scope would be offset at 45 degrees so why is the height difference significant? (Unless I am missing something they won't be co-witnessed)
  7. Glad to hear of the progress but it took a week to get to the backyard??
  8. I'm sure it will. Instead of holster draw can you do a high speed table pickup of your pistol after you set your rifle down on safe?
  9. CRP18 Pro - I had mine in a stuck position, too far closed for the gun to run well so I sent it back and they took care of me (this was on their first run of these guns as I was an early adopter of the rifle).
  10. Stlhead, What is the downside of adding a new division of people shooting regular guns commonly available everywhere with little or no mods? Because you don't like it? You don't even shoot 3 Gun Nation matches and I've seen you post that if you don't like it then dont shoot it. Other people, some new shooters, some existing shooters, many of the guys who show up to shoot with the gear they already own just for fun would have some competitive equity and it would take nothing away from your game.
  11. App's in the mail!! Extra excited because I haven't shot this before
  12. Many figure they'll start in Tac-Irons because they're not competition shooters and they're encouraged to "show up with what you've got". Considering nowadays if you own an AR15 then you probably also own a red dot sight for that AR15 (Aimpoint of EOTech) and you easily fit in Tac-Irons division... Personally, I would like to see a division where a milspec 16" carbine with a red dot sight, an 8+1 pump shotgun, and Glock 19 are considered "competitive". The point being that they would all LOOK like off the shelf guns because they would all BE off the shelf guns - internal modifications only, no super high capacity magazines, or fancy shit. But instead the Factory division is just "Tac-Irons Lite" with downloaded capacities. Same great taste but less calories? Thanks, but no thanks. If I'm going to drop all the money to have a long barreled, light trigger, accurized pistol, shotgun, & rifle with high capacity magazines, custom work, and the other cool gear - then by God I'm going to load to full and wreak havoc. I have switched between Irons and Optics divisions regularly for the past couple years and I look forward to the day when a Production / Duty / Factory or Milspec division exists because it would bring some of the gear used in the sport back to things that are useable in real life application, but at this point I'm just going to shoot Tac-Ops because I'm addicted to the game.
  13. The problem with saying things like "factory configuration" or "only internal modifications are allowed" is that these phrases are already commonly in use, known by all, and well defined by existing action shooting sports. It's an easy thing to fix by either having their own written definition or just removing the phrase. It's not like 3 Gun is going to stop having cross-sport shooters from the other action sports, if anything that's going to grow. If the intent behind the phrasing is to say you can use guns that are commonly available on the open market, with parts that are commonly available on the market, to prevent the use of prototype guns.... then just say that. (Edited to remove specific sport names???)
  14. Wow. This rebranding divisons and rewriting the rule book is a mess. I'm very surpried.
  15. Big prize tables are better than small ones and I consider more matches / companies / sponsors / prizes to be a good thing I hope the companies regularly offering guns & gear to competitors recover quickly, which is why I buy from the people who donate to our sport
  16. Motor oil used in cars goes through lots of certified testing, compared apples to apples against other motor oils using known measurement methods, and the industry has been around for a long time to debate and "get right" the processes and standards set forth. What makes a 10w30, or 5w30, or something else important? I don't claim to know it all. That being said, gun oil companies don't have any of that backing up their product, just marketing and the fact that many people say many different brands "work really well" and "its the best stuff out there". Decide for yourself what to use but when just about any oil will do in a small easy machine like a firearm, just about every oil will work if applied liberally. Personally I settled on FIRECLEAN because the longer I've used it, the more I've liked it. Store it dry, shoot it wet, and focus on training - not your gun oil.
  17. Read through your rules, pretty straightforward but I have some questions - 1) Division capacity for rifles is limited by round count such as 30 per magazine, so having 30 in a 40rd magazine is OK? 2) In the "Transitioning from a pistol to a rifle" section there is no mention of re-holstering so I assume this is not allowed?
  18. Yes for IPSC but no for USPSA If its not in the book its not a rule
  19. Hi there, I live in VA but travel a bit for shooting 3 Gun and saw this exists - didn't know about it before! I also see there are points to be won... for what though? A prize table at the end? Cash payout? Something cool? Bragging rights?
